Hello! Just when you thought things couldn’t get any more exciting, I am trying a little fancy thing for you all. It relates to our “Five Senses” series. Yippee!
Now, I know I said I was going to be clearing out the clutter in my house. And I did, really I did! Boy did I ever! A whole carload. But, that gets kind of boring after awhile, so I found myself day dreaming and looking around my house at all the textures.
I thought to myself, “Self, you could take some pictures of what you are seeing and share them with your blog friends…” So, I picked up my camera and took some pictures. Not the best pictures in the world, I have no idea how to use my camera. Some of them got some weird water color effect going on. Guess that just adds to the texture!
So, then I thought about how cool it would be to make one of those Flickr badges with the photos of all the textures. So I did that too. BUT, sadly, I cannot post in here due to some limitations with my blog.
However, I was able to make a slideshow of textures in my home for your enjoyment! That is right! We are going hi-tech today. So grab yourself some popcorn and head on over to the link I will provide below. If all goes according to plan, you’ll get the flavor of my house through the textures shown in the photos. Not everything with texture is shown, obviously, but enough. I even showed some dust, that is texture, right? I think it is kind of cool to see all the textures because I bet if you took pictures of the textures in YOUR house, your home’s personality would emerge as well. Textures can change how your home looks and feels.
Many of these photos are new to you, but a few I just used from the past.
Ok, so grab that popcorn and enjoy! Let me know if it worked, be sure to push “fast” when you get there to make things move along a little quicker! CLICK HERE: Roll ’em! (if this doesn’t work I will be SO embarrassed…)
UPDATE: Technical difficulties I believe have been fixed…Click on Roll ’em link above…
Ok…. I know it’s here somewhere….
lol
A lot of personality and inspiration. Thank you!
I have just found your blog and enjoyed very much a look through your past posts and also the textures in your home post this one shows me how things may be when our renovation has finished (with hope! here)
You have yourself a lovely day.

Melissa: Your home is stunning!!!! Lovely photos and they truly depict the textures you were talking about! Who is your realtor? If I put on offer in on your house, it will include the furnishings right? We were very lucky indeed that you got side tracked from your de-cluttering! With love & appreciation – Esther
I don’t know what you’re talking about -your pictures were great! Loved the whole slide show – your home is just beautiful! I loved the red toile chair, that gingham lamp with that fringe (is that “eyelash” finge, I love all the door knobs. Where do find them? Are the reproductions? So many wonderful pictures – I’m going to go look at it again!

Your house is so lovely – it looks like it has lots of character, but yet is warm & inviting! Thanks for sharing! Wish I could see it in person! :)
It worked…what a great slideshow. The fur on that adorable critter is the best texture of all! Love that pitched skylight in your kitchen.
Thanks everyone. Door knobs came with the house! With houses from the 1920’s and 1930’s you often get either crystal or glass doorknobs, or solid metal of some sort. One of my favorite things about old houses! If you want them for your own newer house, you can find them at old house parts stores –they usually sell originals or reproductions… http://www.rejuvenation.com.
Melissa!! That was so much fun to take the texture tour of your GORGEOUS GORGEOUS home! What a great idea to take snippets of objects like that! FAB!! I love the picture from outside looking in to your room..living room? You can see the texture of the old glass and the feeling I got when looking in was of an old parlor room from the Victorian era. Lovely! Thank you for visiting my blog and I am glad you enjoyed the Sunday funnies! I hope that your weekend was enjoyable! xo, Becky
Ooh thank-you for visiting me, I love finding great new blogs!! Have a lovely week!

What a cool idea!! I’m a big texture girl, too. Your house is beautiful!
Hi Melissa! Ok that is SOME eye candy. You have a beautiful home! I love texture and have bamboo shades as well. Very creative idea girl! cherry
Awww, thanks everyone. You’ve made my day!
Oh, you have such beautiful things (and we have similar tastes!). I especially love your toile chair and your various lamps (I love lamps) and that skylight, and your kitchen. Sigh! And the fact that you live in Portland is the icing on the cake. I visited Oregon a few years ago and felt like I’d finally found home. Portland is amazing! I was dating a nurseryman at the time and we visited some nurseries and tree farms and I was dazzled with those too, your growing season, the nearby Wilhamette Valley (spelling is wrong!), ahhh….and such a nice house in such an amazing place! Wish you were closer and I would hire you to help me decorate. i wouldn’t say that to just anyone, as I think I can do it on my own, but I really think you could help me organize my tastes, if you know what I mean!! Thanks for the great show! And P.S. about hydrangeas. Mine just bloomed the first week of August – we are Zone 3 here in Calgary, arid and cool, and probably the location doesn’t help. I can’t imagine having them all summer!
What fun. I especially loved that you included your little dog!
Melissa,
Your home is as close to my ideal as I have ever seen. I love homes from the 20s and 30s. They have so much character and charm. Your home is so elegant yet very homey feeling, very traditional, but current. The view outside is spectacular. I could go on and on with the compliments, but I’ll stop. I am making my first trip to the NW (Seattle) in 3 weeks to see my son who is settling there. I can’t wait to walk the neighborhoods and look at houses and gardens.

It was beautiful!
Hey Melissa,
Your home is lovely, I see quite a few similiarities in mine and your decor! I have loved day dreaming about decor even back in the 7th grade, picking out the perfect peach and mint green fabrics and carpeting (very hot colors then)! But alas I became a registered nurse, which I love, but I keep finding myself drifting away to the crazy dream world of decorating. I am truly thinking of starting out small and just finding really great fabrics and making beautiful throw pillows and kinda expanding from there. Do you have any advice for a green gal like me?
