Christmastime is here...

Christmastime is here. Bringing lots of cheer…

Well, not really. But you would have to wonder if you looked around my house! Boxes of decorations are strewn about, wreaths are being hung from ribbons and stockings already adorn the fireplace. Just like the chaos that usually happens in late November, only it isn’t November! It is kind of exciting in a way, the thought that my house could be fully decorated for the holidays and it is only September! All of October, November and December I could focus on baking, entertaining and gift wrapping?!!! How fun that will be! No mad scramble around here this year! Of course, we will still have to get our tree…

I love to do holiday decorating that can last from early fall right on through spring just with a few quick changes here and there. I like to do lots of greenery and garden decor as a backdrop so you can just add some pumpkins or gourds in fall; twinkly lights and red berries in winter; and early flowering blooms when spring arrives. That is my favorite, natural backdrops with holiday touches.

Tomorrow is picture taking day, so I don’t have photos yet to share. But soon I will have holiday ideas and photos for those of you who are chomping at the bit to get going on the holiday season! I know a few of you have asked for ideas so we will definitely need to talk about holiday decor. Happily, most of you are enjoying one season at a time and are in no rush to move on!

In addition to maybe showing a bit of my holiday preparations, I want to talk starting this week about the scented home! We are ready to continue in our Five Senses series and I think next we will talk about the sense of smell — fall has such a delicious scent, don’t you think? I can’t wait to talk about some of our everyday favorite scents, as well as all the wonderful smells of the holidays. I think we should do another group effort on our favorite ways to scent our home. Favorite candles, favorite scents, favorite homemade ways to add deliciousness to the air. Oh, I can’t wait! Maybe we will do that on Wednesday, so tune in because we will need everyone’s input! I do hope you will join me!

I am off to say good night to my son and watch a movie with my husband! Winston has already dozed off on my chair. It is definitely getting darker earlier, have you noticed?!

Thanks so much for checking in and I look forward to spending some time chatting and catching up with you all this week! Be sure to say hello if you stop in!

Hello! I’m still dropping by- just this busy life of mine sometimes means that I don’t always get to comment. Just 11 days until I move into my place- I can’t wait to get my hands dirty decorating it! Thankyou so much for all the inspiration that you and your blog provide me. :) You were talking about shorter days… they’re getting longer here! Skirts and short sleeves are on the hangers again. :) Enjoy the cooler weather.
    Blessings,
    Beck :)

I love that photo of the three wreaths. Beautiful!!

Winston is a doll baby. I have a photo of our Molly (Black Lab)taken last fall, when we were decorating for Christmas. She appears to be asleep in one of the wing chairs in the hearth room. I thought she looked bored, but friends say she looks exhausted from all the decorating!

I’m looking forward to the scented post. Sounds like fun.

First of all – Winston is too cute! I love the picture. Secondly – your table and chairs are darling. Wish I had a large enough kitchen for it. 3rd(ly?) – your wreaths looks so eloquently displayed in that gorgeous window. I can’t wait to see what else you do. And as far as the Scents and Smells – I can’t wait. I love filling my house with those wonderful smells.

    Love,
    Julie

What a great idea to get the base of the seasonal decorating done now and haveing it last through out the winter. I’ll give that some thought. Can’t wait to see the pictures tomorrow and I look forward to hearing ideas for a scented house. Ever since I had the store and it was always filled with candles I’ve had a bad sinus reaction to them. Hopefully I can get some none allergenic ideas for scenting my home.

I envy you, having most of your decorating already done! I’m getting a jump on Halloween, my husband thinks I ‘ve lost my mind. But I like to enjoy holidays, not spend the first half of them ankle deep in a mess of decorations on the floor! Winston is an angel, what would we do without our little dogs?

Oh, that dog is too cute, Melissa! I’m not in the mood yet for Christmas…you’ll have to show us how far you’re going with this Christmas decorating in Sept. I love that holiday the best of all, so come Nov. I’ll be really thinking about it all. I’d love to do more natural things this year too. So give us some inspiration, OK?!

I am always in the mood for Christmas! I think about it all year, plan all year, and buy gifts all year. That way I can enjoy those few precious weeks of the holiday concentrating on family, friends, and entertaining. But I do wait to decorate until Dec. 1st! hahaha! Good luck with your photos. Everything looks great already!

Hi! Oh, it must look very nice at your house with all of the holiday stuff going on! We have too many October birthdays in my family to even think about Christmas yet! But it will be here before you know it. Your blog looks so nice… I love everything about it! I’ll come back to check in on you very often! And thanks for visiting my blog, as well as the comment you left behind. Come back often.
BTW, the dog is adorable! Simply adorable!

Yes Christmas is just round the corner!
How do I know? Because my Mother in Law phoned to say she has booked the taxi for Christmas Day. Everybody is coming to our house this year. It will be a relaxed affair, just family, food and drink!
