7 Facts, plus a bonus one

Lovely Rhonda at Farmhouse Style so kindly invited me to play tag and list seven little known facts about myself. You know, I am a little worried about this. You know what happened the last time I played tag, if not you can read about my experience here! But you know, I’m over it. Even if Martha Stewart herself came by today, she’s welcome to join in the fun. I wonder what Martha would say if I tagged her, should I try it? Actually, I don’t want to know. I don’t need anymore pressure.

Ok folks, let the games begin:

1. I have a choking phobia. My kids all know this. Everyone in my town knows this about me (I often hear people say, oh, yeah, you have that ‘thing’ about choking!) COME ON PEOPLE, CHOKING IS SERIOUS BUSINESS!). I cut up my kids’ apples and carrots and bananas into little tiny slivers. Even when they are 19 years old. I am not kidding. And I always follow up by saying, “Take one bite at a time and chew slowly.” Sorry! Choking is a life and death matter and you can’t be too careful. Please do not tell me your choking stories in my comments, it only adds to my resolve to avoid choking. Just say you understand and leave it at that.

2. I’m not too organized. My husband picks up after me everyday. I set things in little piles all over the place so I won’t forget something, and he swoops in every night and gathers up all my piles and throws them in a box or bag somewhere. That is so helpful, honey! NOT! He likes ambience even more than I do, so he doesn’t want to see my stuff all over. But he forgets I also like AUTHENTIC LIVING. And for me, that includes piles on the table. And on the chair. And desk. And bathroom counter.

3. I have been asked to write a monthly column for a wonderful online magazine. My first one is online now! But I hesitate to tell you about it, because I don’t like to say LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! You have to just happen upon these little discoveries about me, I am the kind of person who likes to just sort of blend in to the sidelines. Not really a wallflower, just not attention seeking. One day awhile back I had 3,000 visitors here and I almost had a panic attack. (I thought maybe the paparazzi had some scoop on me and sent the world over to check it out!) I am so humbled to be a part of the magazine! I will give you all the link here.

4. Along the lines of #3, I do not like to have a lot of attention drawn to myself.

5. Ok, now I am digging here for something else you don’t know. Or would care to know. Honestly, I don’t particularly like to cook. Again, I’m sorry! I know that is so not Martha-like to say, but I’m just saying! Once in awhile for a special occasion I do, or if I had a lot of free time, but for the most part I just like to get it over with. It is messy, time consuming and you eat the results. Not my kind of project! If I create something, I want to see it every day in all its glory.

6. I want to start embroidering. I’ve said this on a couple of other people’s blogs, but I’ve wanted to embroider for a long time. Other bloggers and their nifty talents have inspired me to get going on this. I guess I just need to set aside time for it or I’ll never start. You crafty gals are just amazing.

7. I’m short! Well, pretty short. 5 foot 2 inches.

Alrighty, there you have it! Little known facts and the longest post in blogging history. It pains me to devote an entire post to myself. It REALLY does. I am not just saying this. But, because I love you all so much, I do this for you to be a gracious blogger. I want you to know how much I appreciate you, EACH ONE OF YOU, your visits, your support, your encouragement. Really, I do. Thanks Rhonda, for asking me to play!

Bonus Fact: All the photos were taken last fall when I was in Budapest. Our family’s publishing company won an award, and we were flown to Hungary. This is an amazing city! The first picture shows the Danube River. Second photo is the Royal Grand Corinthian Hotel where we stayed. The third is from Heroes Square.

Awwww, you are just so sweet for not wanting to call attention to yourself. I am like you, however I was always the wall flower in school. Almost voted most shy in HS, however they didn’t have a most shy guy! haha.

I read your article and it is beautifully written and so true. I will abide with your wishes of no choking stories. LOL about your husband picking up after you. You? Come on now! Tell me it isn’t so. LOL. I have piles, too, but you will never, never, never find my hub picking up anything..not even his own things. Oh well…

Love the pics of Budapest! Looks like a great place to visit.

Take care and smiles to you,

    Becky

PS: Try embroidering at night..while watching the TV. “Just do it!!” ha ha.

Hi, I really appreciated your “Tagged ” entries. I did it too and it takes alot of ones time, but It was fun for me to do.

I’m only 5′ 1 1/2 inches too. I love to cook, because I have always had to and so I might as well enjoy it. LOL

My DH is the one who is always leaving piles here and there. He likes things out and not in a closet or drawer so that it’s easy for him to find. it doesn’t work well for the “Organized, Magazine look here. So I guess I’m the one who is putting his items in drawers etc… Sorry… Now I can understand just a litte of your frustration..and my DH’s too.

    Hugs,
    Jan

I hate piles of stuff too!!! The GOOD thing is this year we are schooling at home so I don’t have piles of annoying notices from school times two!! I still get the piles though….my way of organizing the clutter…and there the piles sit and sit…..
    Love the photos!

Wow, I wish my husband would pick up after me, it’s more the other waya round at our house! I dont like to draw attention to myself either. Amazingly enough, the perception of anonymity I have while blogging allows me to be freer in my posts than what I might be in person. I am going to check out your article now.:>) Thanks for sharing yourself with us!

    Melissa,
I just adore you! Your article was so artfully written that the reader now finds herself experiencing a little piece of your heart, which is obviously quite large. My husband always says that our house is “lived in.” Not dirty but lived in. And I used to really hate that. But now, sigh, I have just learned to appreciate that there will always be piles of things to put away and even that doesn’t stop the visitor from coming. There’s always someone popping by so I guess it doesn’t really matter….

    Love,
    Julie

If I wasn’t so much older than you, I would swear we were separated at birth. With that said….”I understand”.

Now, I’m going to have a look at the online magazine.

Katie… as a matter of fact, I have not heard of choking on Coca Cola, thank you for sharing that :-) . From now on, my new motto is, DRINK SLOWLY, kids, ONE sip at a time…

No comment on #1, as you requested. I LOVED reading about you, although you are shy about it! And, you are an amazing writer so you should be excited about writing for the mag… I’ll need to check in there! Melissa, you are neat “little” lady! Love, Esther

I’m with you on the not very organized thing. I know how to create organization….I just really stink at maintaining it! That’s really funny that he actually picks your piles up!

Oh Melissa, I felt the same way a few days back. I’m uncomfortable to write about myself. It’s one thing when I’m describing something (“I just adore this…”) but to actually talk about myself is very hard. I think we’re taught as Christians not to think so highly of ourselves. That said, I’m glad to have gotten to know a little more of you. I loved the article. My home definitely has those sticky spots left by little fingers! Most of the women who read the magazine are probably Christians and they appreciate your kind description of everyday beauty. But this blog… it’s a ministry. I’m so grateful to my fellow Christian bloggers. You help me refuel sometimes. Isn’t it reassuring to know that His Word doesn’t go out and return void?! Blessings… Polly

    Melissa,

Many congratulations to you on your new online writing gig..you deserve it. A comment on the choking issue…I have the same phobia, just the thought of it scares the daylights out of me. I also, once in awhile dream about drowning, which is really scary as well. See, you are not the only one with phobias.

Thanks for sharing somethings about you. I would be thrilled to be able to write a monthly column – what an honor! I would be scared, but what a feeling to actually be able to do something like that! And, there are a few of us out there who aren’t too organized either! Thanks for sharing.

Melissa, so fun to hear more about you. I’m not much to draw a lot of attention to myself either. I’m so happy for you about writing for CWO! That’s awesome. We are proud to know you & I know you’ll do a great job with it.

    Melissa–

You are a hoot and a half. Some of your “confessions” cracked me up. Oddly enough, I, too, have the choking fear. And yes, it’s completely irrational and unlikely to occur in front of either one of us in our lifetime…especially if it already has once!

I’m heading over to read your first online column right now. Many congrats on that!

    Melissa,
WE have the PILE thing in common, my husband likes to put my “piles” away too & sometimes he does his way of “fluffing”!
Yes, so glad to have met abby of the blissful!
I did start some serious fluffing after CL fair, whew my home was very “authentic living”…. I remembered your post in regards to having your front entry clean, etc. & got out the trimmers (@ dusk mind you) and starting shaping our arborvitea (pine thingys) & sweeping! Hopefully they look ok in daylight.
    Have a good week,

My life’s goal as a child was to make it to 5’2″. Eventually, I just hoped for 5′. Then I settled for my finished height of almost 4’10”. Not much I can do about it, but wear heels and that I always do. So I think you’re just the right height.

Consider yourself lucky your guy cleans up! I wish mine would do a little of that. He just adds his piles to my piles and we live happily in our mess.

    Martha Stewart came by? Wow!
