Beauty EVERY DAY
One of my favorite songs, ever, is “Morning Has Broken”. The sweet lyrics, written by Eleanor Farjeon, in 1922 (which coincidentally is the same year that Daisy Cottage was built) always seem to speak softly to my soul
Morning has broken, like the first morning
Blackbird has spoken, like the first bird
Praise for the singing, praise for the morning
Praise for the springing fresh from the word
Sweet the rain’s new fall, sunlit from heaven
Like the first dewfall, on the first grass
Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden
Sprung in completeness where his feet pass
Mine is the sunlight, mine is the morning
Born of the one light, Eden saw play
Praise with elation, praise every morning
God’s recreation of the new day.
I can honestly say that I try to never miss the chance to say hello to a brand new morning. They ARE precious. They ARE beautiful and we are blessed to have them. Mornings are to be treasured. To me, they are THAT special.
My favorite mornings are when I take the time to witness them on the back porch where I can be entertained with the rambunctious antics of the neighborhood squirrels and listen to the many spirited birds who share this little patch of land with us. I smile when I see that a new red bloom has emerged during the night, treating our eyes to glorious color.
I choose to sit in my white rocker because it is like an old friend to me. We’ve been together forever. I so love its’ chippy paint and weathered lines. They are little details that, to me, make this rocking chair more comforting — more beautiful.
Before I sit, however, I like to reach into my china cabinet and choose an extra pretty cup to celebrate that first, hot cup of coffee that I am about to enjoy! I truly believe in USING our pretty things every day. And a beautiful morning such as this one definitely calls for that.
Ah yes, morning has broken indeed. True bliss! A simple rocking chair, a pretty cup, hot coffee, and a sweet morning to witness — just beautiful. This is one of the ways that I find beauty every day. I hope that you can savor a few moments of YOUR mornings too, for it is your GIFT to receive. Please be kind to yourself and OPEN IT.

Beautiful inspiration Kim. I’m having my coffee now in my pretty blue & white mug.
Thanks again Melissa!

Beautifully said Kim! I love that song too and I’m going to be sure to have a lovely cup of tea in the morning in my china cup rather than the pretty mug tomorrow, just as a gift to me!

Kim/Melissa – What can I say? This is just lovely. It makes me feel peaceful just thinking about this. I love this song, too — when I was little, I used to get up at the crack of dawn and sing on my swings. For some reason — I don’t know where — I picked up this song, and I used to sing it at the top of my lungs, waking up everyone in the neighbourhood. Thanks for bringing back the memory …

Love Kim and her Daisy Cottage! What a sweet reminder to use and not just have for show our pretty things and to take a few moments at the start of the day for ourselves (even if that means getting up before the rest of the family)!

ooooo – I didn’t realise Eleanor Farjeon wrote Morning Has Broken. I have a book of hers called The Little Boxroom which was illustrated by Edward Azzopardi who also did the illustrations for Nurse Matilda (aka Nanny McPhee). Sweet!
I love Kim at Daisy cottage. Her house looks absolutly perfect for me. Love her neighborhood………I’m ready to move!
Hi Melissa, now this truly lovely, what could be better than a old wicker rocker and a cup of coffee in a beautiful cup. Life is wonderful :) Thank you for sharing, KIm J & j xo
