We always do a mini-cleanup right after dinner. This is mainly to have my son (13 mos.) start learning to clean up his toys and books for the day. After he is in bed, we do a bigger pickup for 10-30 minutes, throughout the rest of the house. All during the day, when I am walking from one room to the next, I scan for any items that need to go to that room and take them with me.
