    Good morning, Melissa –
I love painted brick. Last year I did a post about our gorgeous ‘new’ fireplace and mantel. Our little 60’s vintage ranch home had a nondescript fireplace and nearly nonexistent mantel. We lived with it for as long as we had to before we completely remodeled it. The bricks were mauve pink with mauve pink mortar – fine for the era in which the house was built. Not fine any more! We painted the brick white and added a lot of gorgeous woodwork that my sweetheart built and it is fantastic. We love it and can’t get over our joy with the finished project. I clipped and saved pictures from magazines and catalogs and even an advertisedment or two from the Sunday Oregonian, all with mantels we liked. Then when it was time for the redo we choose the elements we loved and went to Lowe’s and Home Depot. There we tweaked and rearranged our thoughts a bit as we stood in the wood trim and molding aisles. What we ended up with is perfect. Just perfect. Thanks for this post today. It makes me want to find more brick to paint!

Good morning and thank you for this post. One of my winter projects, which I have been hesitant to do, is to paint the brick in our kitchen, white. Nice push to just do it!

That is a huge change. I have been toying with painting the brick in out living room for a while. Our room is small….very small and the brick only goes halfway up the wall. I am just not sure if I want it white or not. I really like how it brightens a room up though. Now, seariously, 2 big TV’s. Well this is America. Happy Thanksgiving.

This is comforting to me that painting brick can turn out. I’m tossing around the idea of painting ours.

This is amAzing! Granted, it has new furniture, but it is so obvious that it’s the paint that makes the difference. The power of paint–you’re so right.

It’s great how the white paint really shows off the pattern in the brick. Such a fresh look at that living space!

How fabulous! As much as I love a great brick fireplace, some rooms just need a makeover. So much you can do with a can of paint! Thanks for posting this great room, good inspiration. Winter is the best time for indoor re-do’s! I paint anything that stands still long enough…

i love that they didn’t just paint the fireplace….like i would have. but used the grout to make it the feature. it stands out! it is such a great transformation.

I see Deb beat me to it…what with the two TVs?!? But I do I love the way this room turned out. I *think* I would have painted the grout lighter, too, but would need to see the room in person before I pass judgment. :-) In a way the contrast is quite nice.

Thanks for sharing this before and after!
