White Farmhouse Cottage {Where Dreams & Reality Meet}

Farmhouse Style Cottage

No, this is not my new house! Nice, though, eh? I found this lovely Dream Home on HGTV.com and paused for a moment to enjoy the beauty. Of the many styles of houses I love, I have a white farmhouse in my mind as one of my potential dream houses. Silly, as I have never wanted to live on a farm. But I am drawn to farmhouses. The gorgeous front porch and details of this beautiful home got my little heart jumping for joy.

White Farmhouse Cottage {Where Dreams & Reality Meet}

White Farmhouse Cottage {Where Dreams & Reality Meet}

As many of you know, right now I am sitting among hundreds of boxes getting ready to head to a new home and a new life. Six days from now I’ll be spending my first night in a brand new house! We FINALLY signed the papers and things are finally feeling more settled. No more wondering WHERE I am going! Hooray! It isn’t a dreamy farm house like this one, but it will be our home, God-willing, for many years.

I was thinking today that my dream home is the place where my dreams and reality come together. While I might have all sorts of fairytale notions about dreamy places I’d like to live, there is no place better than HOME. I’ll share more of what went into our home decision this time in a future post. I can tell you it is different than anything I have ever lived in before! Yet, I was unexpectedly happy with our choice!

I can’t wait to invite you all over, through the power of blogs, to my new little corner of the world. It will be fun to tackle setting up a home with all of you a part of it every step of the way! Thank you all for sharing YOUR little corners of the world with me over the past year!  You have inspired and encouraged me more than you know.

    While that farmhouse is dreamy, it’s also very large. Very large is not very good unless one has all kinds of time to devote to keeping house. For me, it would be way too daunting without a small staff.

    Six days? Just six more days? You’re all in my prayers…Hang in there, Melissa!

    Gosh, that farm house looks like such a peaceful place to live. No matter what your new home looks like, I’m sure you will bring warmth and love to it. Home is where your heart is and since your family will be with you what else do you need? God is with you no matter what part of the earth you settle in. May you have peace and love in 2009!

    “Yet, I was unexpectedly happy with our choice!”

    This is the most important part. That you are happy with your choice.

    Can’t wait to share [with you, via the Net] the process of settling in.

    A very Happy New Year!

    Hooray, you found a home- how fun. and you are right it doesn’t really matter if a “dreamy” home, as long as love is found there.
    Happy New Year- and have fun on your new adventure.
    Thanks for helping me along this year also- I’ve taken a lot from your blog.

    there are so many things to like about the house… the porch, the big yard… but i’m just not a fan of gingerbreadesque details around the roof of the porch. they throw off the whole thing for me.

    anyway–blessings on your move! and i can’t wait to see your new home!

    yea! we are moving on the 2nd…and living with my in-laws until our house here sells. did you sell a house? i must admit, the hardest part of this move has been not being able to picture where we’ll live. and as much as i love/adore my in-laws (they are like parents to me too), i can’t help but wonder how quickly we’ll wear out our welcome when we arrive with 7 kids and 2 dogs. in the middle of winter.

    life is either a daring adventure or nothing, eh? (hellen keller)

    have a safe, quick, painless move, melissa-

    Hi Melissa! Good for you I am so relieved you will be in your new home soon! Hallelujah chorus playing in the background….big smile….you will be relieved in spite of boxes and messes just to be in the house! I live in a farmhouse and the rooms are smaller, ceilings lower because they weren’t built for model home appeal…farm houses are built for family and common sense appeal! One can dream, and one can also make their home beautiful in spite of awkward rooms. I know your home will be lovely, because you have a lovely heart and loveliness spills out where you are….God made you that way. Enjoy the process and take lots of before and after pictures!
    Blessings!

    Hi Melissa,
    You will be settled in no time and just think….you get to start all over again. That sounds like so much fun when it comes to decorating. I can’t wait to see your new place. I do actually live in a 1911 farmhouse and I love it (most of the time) meaning except for when the basement gets flooded because we have a crack in the foundation. There is always something to do or fix in an old house but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Bless you as you and your family start your new adventure.

    Hugs,
    LeAnn:)

    After living on a farm for many years, I don’t think I would want to go back. Lots of work!! But I too, love the old white farmhouses. J grew up in one of those old homes. When he was stationed in Germany, during the 60’s his parents had the old home dismantled. Their new home was constructed next to it when J was in high school. He has always wished they would have saved that old house.

    I am looking forward to seeing more of your new home and hearing about this new adventure, you are embarking on!

    All the very best in 2009!

    I can’t wait for your to share your home ‘setting up’ with us. I will follow it with bated breath and hopefully glean a few tips from a consummate professional. I still have only a frame and half a roof. I know things will move quickly in the new year and I am anxious about the enormity of it all. Where do I start? … with an empty shell. Your move and your documentation will be such a help for so many of us in the same situation.

    Melissa, I love beautiful white farmhouses too. The large & wide front porches are what do it for me. They also have a casual grandness to them, which I adore. We were getting ready to build such a home before my husband got laid off in June of 07. Your new home will be fabulous because you will make it so. Can’t wait to see it.
