Slipcovers: An Eye for Detail

A few of my chairs are going to need be slipcovered in the next year or so. Now, granted they may not actually GET slipcovered due to the expense and my lack of sewing ability, but it is fun to dream about what I would do if I could! And Country Living had some very inspiring ideas!

I sure love the slipcovers with details like pleated skirts, ties, tufting and ruffles! So sweet! Fancy, but in a fun sort of way.

    Hi Mel,
Thanks a lots for the party recently. It was really motivated.

Yeah, right! I would love the first photo to transform my poor chair slipover where I have in the SPA corner. Ahhh… lots of ideas, huh? & our abilities of sewing isn’t enough to do all this.

Anyways, great job, Lady and have a great day & wonderful week ahead.

    See yah around!

Slip covers are great for other people…but for me they are always bunchy and look messy most of the time….

Maybe it is because I have purchased cheapies and have three kids and lots of animals.

However, the choices you have featured here look great. I can dream too.

Melissa, I see you have the gift to make lemonade from lemons. That is such a good quality and one that moves us away from bad situations in a positive way. The Lord always knows the end from the beginning and our thinking just shows how much faith you have. Good for you, things will work out! I love the part of these types of situations where you can look back, breathe a sign of relief and say, “Thank you, Father, now I get it!”

Sorry to hear about your house sale falling through. I am sure God has a plan! The hard part is waiting to see what it will be.

I love those pleats too… it’s very rare to find furniture with them anymore, let alone slipcovers. Where do you find covers that cute? I tried to find one for my small couch/twin bed pullout, but nothing looked right.

Glad you are feeling better about things this week. I’m looking forward to some miracles that come forth for you! :)

    Hi Melissa,
I love slipcovers. A few years ago I finally bought my dream sofa at Arhaus with a cream slipcover. It washes beautifully and I haven’t gotten tired of it. I do wish I could make slipcovers but unfortunately I did not get the talented sewing gene.

    Hugs,
    LeAnn:)

Love the detail in the first picture where the pillow pattern is picked up as the shelf backing. I’d never think of such a thing.

Glad that you are feeling better, Melissa. So many things are actually blessings in disguise when we yield them. It allows Him to work it out and we don’t have to run around like Rebekah of old making things happen.

That is pretty how the fabric is on the shelf backing too. It is so pretty and soothing!

Beautiful slipcovers! I’ve never tried them and I can’t sew-so they will probably never happen around here!

So glad you’re feeling better, God really does have it in his hands and his timing! Praying for continued favor and peace in the process!

Aren’t these slipcovers beautiful? I’ve had plans for years and I mean YEARS to slipcover some of my chairs. I even have the fabric already for two of them. I have 2 sets of wing backs and 1 set of overstuffed. I know I can do it, I’m just SERIOUSLY intimidated and never get started. Maybe I should start that after I’ve finished painting my 4 chairs! Ha! I think I’m just a project collector.

HI Melissa, I thought of you all weekend and said a prayer for you. I was laughing at the slipco vers which I adore…my chairs are slipcovered in laundry! Underwear here on the headrest, socks on the arm, folded t-shirts for the cushion, do you get the picture? There is a chair there somewhere….I think I prefer your cute slipcovers!

I too have never had great success with slipcovers in the past. A sew fanatic friend of mine claims the ones you make to fit yourself work much much better. So there you have it! We all have to learn how to (gasp..) sew.

Melissa, although I have a good eye and a great imagination, I am totally worthless when it comes to any kind of sewing. I do believe that any type of needle must be repulsed by me. I am just so happy when I can find someone to create what I envision.

I am so sorry for your disappointment. It seems like this is definitely one of those moments which fails to offer any form of understanding the behavior of others. I will continue to keep your family in my prayers.

I am so sorry to hear about the sale of your house falling through (didn’t know about it until now). Although we did not get quite that far, we were recently disappointed when a family chose to put an offer in on another house rather than ours…we thought they were seriously interested in ours. So I feel your pain, and I’m sorry you had to go through that. May God send a “real” buyer very soon. Blessings!

Didn’t get a chance to post a comment yesterday but have been thinking about you. We’ve had a challenging spring as well. In March I experienced an unexpected miscarriage, then my daughter was in the hospital, and then our finished basement flooded doing a lot of damage. I know exactly what you mean when you said you see God working, but you would still have rather sold the house. While God has taught me so much through this struggle I would still trade if for a healthy pregnancy in a heartbeat. Hope it helps to know someone can identify in some way. I prayed for you today.

Oh, sweetie, I am SO SORRY! {hugs} I myself have had a miscarriage and I know how horrible and hard it is. Fortunately I found out why I had the miscarriage and was able to correct it before getting pregnant again with our son (our third child). (I had undiagnosed low thyroid). But figuring out the “why” and going on to have another baby didn’t take away the pain or sadness I felt for losing a baby I had seen on ultrasound and had watched its tiny heartbeat just weeks earlier.

I am so sorry and I’ll remember you in my prayers. Losing a sale doesn’t compare at all to losing a baby. I am so mindful of how blessed I am — I am not dwelling on my own bum week anymore. I know God is at work and I am trusting Him in the details. My heart goes out to you and what a difficult time you are going through….

Praying for you and I know God is at work through even (and especially) the saddest of our days.

While I ended up not having time to do my procrastinated project, I still plan on doing it…along with several slipcovers that I’ve needed to do for a while. Now that this craft fair is over and my fingers have recovered from all that hot glue, I’m going to burn them all over again. : )

Just stopping by to see if you had another post yet… Looked again at this one and noticed again the wooden chair hidden behind the slipcover — looks like they are hiding a really pretty chair with that cover (if maybe a little scratched up). I love all scalloping and design we can see at the top of the chair. I am always noticing pretty wooden chairs that I would love to have… the kind they used to have in the 40’s from what I can tell. Pretty carving and spindles….

I adore that first slipcover, it’s in my style file too. And I have fabric waiting on me to try to make my own for a chair & ottoman. I’m majorly procrastinating on that project, since I’m a little skeered to dive in! Soon, soon…

Me too! I have about 3 chairs that need to be slipcovered. I’m encountering a little problem though. The backs of one of my lazyboy chairs has buttons (I have no idea what these are called…but I’m talking about the button looking things on the back of the chair that looks like they push the fabric in to create a pattern, similar to what the ruffles are doing in your #2 photo). Do you think you could point me in the right direction for a tutorial on slipcovering a chair like this?

Love your blog. Will be back soon for inspiration. We just moved into a new place and I’m not a natural decorated…I have to learn everything from people like you =)
    Thank you!!
