Fall Nesting Tips: #2

Now is a great time to spend a little time nesting in the entry of your home. Even if you only have a door that enters directly into a living room, give it a few “entry like” details such as a floating shelf for keys, a rug and a mirror. Consider things like a tray or basket for shoes, a seasonal plant or bowl of baby pumpkins, a Fall rug and a fresh coat of paint on the door or bench. And why not a small pitch fork as protection against intruders or unruly guests? (Ha, just kidding — but it does add personality and is an interesting conversation piece!)

This is a cute entry; love the bench! I did this for a client where we put a small half round table, mirror and small scale topiary {on the table}. Just these few little things worked to make it feel like an entry and not like you were walking right into the living room.

I LOVE that idea of the chalkboard entry wall. So cute. I wish I had an entry wall to do that to.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

You know this was the perfect post for me today because I’m stuck in the house with no car looking at an entry way thats so cluttered. A cluttered doorway is something that has always bothered me.

Maybe today I will spend some time – if not actually doing the work – at least figuring a way to make the entry welcoming.

And also not a constant thorn in my side.

Love this picture! It reminds that my son never worked on my bench project for our foyer. Hmmm… Guess I will have to tackle it alone!

    Have a great week Melissa,

Great idea! I love that wall!

We always come into the house through the garage, which opens to the utility room. As we were cleaning the floors the other day, hubby said “Did you know the floor by the front door is the cleanest in the house?” I think we need to invite more guests over so that the floors will wear evenly. :)

Now that is a tiny pitchfork. You couldn’t do much damage with it, that’s for sure. I just “finished” my fall nesting, but are we ever finished? Good post. You always give such good advice.

Top of the Entryway to you Melissa,

Just wanted to wish you an official, “Happy First day of Autumn/Fall” to you!

Today is The Day, the first Official day of my fav season of the year (even if it is supposed to be in the 90’s here in Oregon today)! Can’t you already taste the pumpkin choc chip muffins frosted w/rich butter cream. Shhhh! Listen, do you hear the rustle of the trees and the crunching of leaves underfoot? How about the crisp cool weather yet the warmth of the sun on your face as you stroll through the lovely golds and ambers of the bushes and trees? Oh, I just cannot wait for sweater weather and my cheeks to turn a rosy red from the brisk morning air!

Today, I shall dream of the autumn (I just know it is coming), as I sweat in the 90’s while refinishing my old chef’s rack/table, outdoors, in the sweltering heat. Ahh, Fall is just around the corner….;)

BTW, the old rack is going from forest green to a bronzy brown with previous ‘pecan’ warped wood top to natural wood top with ‘peg holes’ (read: turned over top, filled old screw holes with wood filler, then used dark furniture crayon on top, and LOTS of polyurethane of course!)

Thank you, Melissa, for keeping up the Fall theme, I need the encouragement in this heat!

So excited about what this second Sunday holds for your congregation! What a privilege your family has in store as the Lord works in the days ahead!

I agree! Fall is the perfect time to start cozying up the house, from the entry into the living areas – we’ve been doing it at our home, too :)

Lovely inspiration as always, it is one of my small joys to visit your space and see what others have linked up in their celebration of creating a comfortable nest with what we have.

In my kitchen, cozied up right behind my desk, is a tiny little wall…I didn’t understand what it had been begging for until I saw your entry wall. And to think, a small bit of blackboard paint will make that the happiest place in my kitchen!
