Fall Nesting Tips: #16

Get your dining room spiffed up and ready for the holidays!

Dining room decor can easily become tired and boring. The best thing you can do to update your look is to mix things up.

Try painting, recovering, or slipcovering your dated dining room chairs to give them a little lift, and if you are really daring, bring in mismatched chairs! And of course, don’t be afraid to paint your table. If you are bored with how your table looks, why not? Be daring and create a dining room you will love this season.

Mixing things up will give your dining room a completely fresh feel and it might even inspire you to have a holiday dinner party.

GREAT ideas. I need to do something around here to spruce stuff up – I’ve been feeling no-so-pleased lately. Perhaps some paint will make me feel better.

I really need to pay attention to my dining room. It becomes my office and storage space this time of the year as the candle fundraisers happen.

There is a woman in our area that does beautiful painting on furniture that has me thinking about what could be done to our table…you might enjoy her website for inspiration. Miss Mustard Seed http://www.missmustardseed.blogspot.com/

Thanks for the reminders to keep focused on beauty and comfort in our homes.

Hello! Did you think I fell off the face of the earth? I sort of did… I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August and my life has been a whirlwind of doctors and such… surgery on Thursday. A big surgery. Anyway, I am catching up on all the tidbits for fall. I am going to be home for the month of November. Maybe I can do some wonderful things while I am home!

I would love to paint our dining room set but I don’t know if I have the confidence. I am a mediocre painter at best and if I messed it up, I don’t think that my husband would be too thrilled with moi. But I am looking for more dining room ideas, so thank you for your post!!!

My dining room table is covered with bags of Christmas presents bought over the weekend. Your pretty, organized picture reminds me to get off the computer and carry the goods to the basement.

Great ideas, Melissa! In fact, I just bought the most beautiful slip covers for my dining room chairs to give my dining room more of a formal look for the upcoming Christmas season! Ohhh no…I’m so bad, already thinking ahead to Christmas! Hehe! I really did go through my dining room and decorated it for Autumn though!

Thanks for sharing the tips! Have a marvelous Monday, my friend!

We have to have mismatched chairs at Christmas. It wasn’t deliberate to begin with, but the final result reminded me so much of Monica’s appartment in Friends, I kept them. At Christmas, I unify all the dining room chairs by adding seat pads to match the linen I’m using, usually some combination of green, red and gold. I’d love to paint my pine table legs and base white, but my husband’s wary.

That picture gives me the inspiration to make slipcovers for my dining room chairs. I love that look, I love changing things around for the seasons and holidays. When there are more than 6 of us at the table we always have mismatched chairs – borrowed from all over the house!
    Have a nice week.

Thanks for the inspiring post.My dining room is the least favorite room of mine in our house. We lived in a restored turn of the century farmhouse and the room is just awkward.I have painted it 3 different colors in 3 years. The pic you posted is on the southern living website and I have it saved and bookmarked from last week when I was looking for dining room ideas! Great minds think alike!

Yes! I’m trying to decide if I can get the old wallpaper off, plus texture and paint the walls before Christmas! Oh, and still keep track of my three kids!

    Hi,

I love this idea. I don’t have a dinning room, but have an eat in kitchen that could use some help. I like the chair covers. I think I will look into getting some of those. My table and chair set are dated. I am also in search of a nice center piece.

    Thanks.
