A Beautiful Winter House

I was drooling over this Sun Valley home inspired by a barn (these images featured on House Beautiful). Then when I saw this mudroom, I was in love. I so enjoy finding houses that are unique and reflect a family’s personality and life. I adore the light coming in the french doors, the chalkboard, the canoe hanging from the ceiling… love love love.

A Beautiful Winter House

Love all the patterned blankets on the built in shelves! These provide a decorative statement that is PRACTICAL too. I love a house that is decorated with every day things that are also beautiful. You really don’t need to fuss around much with accessories if you have lovely colors, shapes and patterns of real life things. You know that is my kind of decorating…I love it.

A Beautiful Winter House
This room has a fun mix of fabrics and patterns. A polka dot ottoman? Love. Pops of red? So fun. Four blue and white club chairs? Swoon. A throw over each chair?  COZY! I think I need a polka dot ottoman. Stat.

A Beautiful Winter House

I can never resist wood walls!  This house is full of them so of course I would love it. These board and batten walls are a beautiful backdrop to the fun bedding and striped carpet.

A Beautiful Winter House

This house really gets me in the mood for a winter getaway. It is cozy but still light, bright and happy! The perfect mix! I’ve always thought of myself as a “winter house” girl because I am so into being cozy. It is fun to see a house that has a coziness to it without being dark or dreary. A few quick changes to the accessories would take this home easily in to spring and summer. Yep, love a house that can embrace every season.

Are you a winter or summer house girl (or guy)? Or are you like me, you’d like a home that can embrace all the seasons?

Ok, so I know the title of the post was “A Beautiful Winter House” … but after all those airy, light pictures with the canoe and colors I totally expected to see an outside picture with at least green grass if not the ocean!

Living in Kansas, I’ve got all seasons so my house is gonna do it all!

Great house Melissa! I do love all seasons. However, my husband would love to end up in Maine one of these days and they do have a longer winter season – but it is fun to be snowed in. And I wouldn’t mind at all if my house looked like that!

Loving all the pics of that beautiful winter house. Especially fell in love with that great room with the club chairs with a blanket on each one. Yep, I am a winterhouse kinda girl too. Love cozying up in a blanket by the fireplace and drinking hot chocolate.
I also love those floors in that mudroom. You make a great point to use everyday things to decorate with. Like with those blankets. We don’t have to “bling” out our homes with expensive stuff, just everyday practical items. I like that.
    Have a blessed day.

What a gorgeous dream house. I’m filled with envy…and admiration. I love the textiles, especially on the bed, I love the blankets on the shelves – oh face it, I love everything about that house…thanks for sharing it! I will be back to dream about it often…

In Arkansas we get the extremes of every season, and I don’t think I could trade those seasons for even the coziest house. It is beautiful, though!

What a beautiful house! I love the coziness-I’m definitely a winter house gal-but I love how cozy this one is without being dark and cabin like. Thanks for sharing! I’m suddenly feeling the need for some polka dots too!

Love the house. It’s definitely swoon-worthy. I love a house that can change with the seasons. Now if I could just get a house that changes with the seasons in a location that stays summer all year round – I’d be a happy camper!

    Ooh! I can’t decide! I’m just a HOUSE girl period! :-)

I LOVE the ceiling light fixture in the first photo. I
was also drawn to the “boathouse” monogrammed towels and the hall walls covered in what look to be vintage nautical maps.
Thanks so much for the inspiration- it will definitely come in handy the further we get into our bath remodel!

I’m an all year round girl, but what I love about this house is how bright and sunny it is no matter what the weather is outside. I need to work on that in my own home. I also love any room that is decorated with red and blue. Totally missed the red polka dot ottoman the first time I saw this. Thanks!

Of course its not a beat up old aluminum canoe, but a perfectly beautiful wooden canoe. I love painted board and batten and board and bead paneling. When we redid our bathroom, I added painted board & bead paneling to the WC. It looks like it was part of the original design of the house (1920’s Spanish Revival with a dollop of Craftsman).

Thanks for sharing these pictures. If I ever win the lottery and get to buy a cabin in the mountains, it would look just like this.

I’m a summer house girl only because I’m decorating-impaired and spareness is easier to maintain in a less-than-700-sqft. dwelling. I love cottage sensibilities, but the more details, the more I stress. Still, I linger over your site, and the lovely images there, aspiring to incorporate a few elements into my necessarily-spartan home.

This house makes me cry-what a dream come true! I love a house that can embrace all seasons. It’s one of the reason why I love the PNW-we have all 4. Now if we could just have snow here in the WV more than drizzle and ice.

I consider myself an Autumn/Winter person. I love a roaring fire and the warm winter colors. I have decorated my house to reflect this. However, my fhamily has been fortunate enough to now have a place at the Delaware shore.

It has been a great opportunity to try out that crisp, clean, beachy look that just wouldn’t work at my “real” house.

    Best of both worlds!

By the way, I read that issue of House Beautiful from cover to cover and pulled a few pics for my idea file.

The living room is so bright and open it doesn’t feel winter-y at all to me. I’m more of a summer house person though so take away a couple of throws and swap out those skis for oars and I’m in heaven. With a polka dot ottoman!

Lovely photos! Like you, I love cosy houses. My greatest challenge at the moment is to make our home light and airy but warm and welcoming at the same time. I got tired of the winter and autumn colours I’ve had for years, althought they did make things instantly cosy. I’m now making the accesories work harder and am rotating them more often.

I like to have my home look comfy for all the seasons. As I get older I love the FEEL of fall, cozing up with a book and a blanket and a fire….YUM! BUT, I also LOOOVE being outdoors in the spring and summer, sitting on the deck etc. I have a pretty open house and have WARM colors on the walls, browns, mocha, gold, etc. but it works in summer or winter. I LOVE COLOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xo, Pinky
