Fresh Holiday Ideas: <br> Christmas Trees in Unique Containers!

I saw this Christmas Tree in a basket over at Southern Living. I love the idea of breaking away from the expected green and red metal stands and “Christmas tree skirts” and putting the tree in a more charming container instead!

Over the years we have spent many hours cursing Christmas trees that won’t stand up, so I am not entirely sure if this basket idea would actually work for a large tree. Even with a stand inside the basket it might be a little tipsy. But I think it is worth a try!

I also love this tree in a big metal tub seen in Country Living magazine. Another charming and interesting idea for thinking outside of the traditional stand and Christmas tree skirt.

In this same home they put a smaller tree in a white pot and yet another tree in a large bowl! (via Country Living).

This room from Coastal Living has a tree in a small white bucket with a handle. So cute!

I’m loving the simple creative touch of a unique Christmas tree container!

That first tree is so simple and beautiful. I can’t imagine putting my tree in a bucket or a basket, but it looks pretty! :-)

    I adore these ideas.

This year I swathed our tree in burlap and a white vintage petticoat. I am loving it more than anything I saw in the stores.

Tomorrow I start 3 weeks of craft and gift tutorials.

Those DO look nice! I’ve been trying to decide what to use for our tree this year – I don’t have anything currently, but I agree that it may be hard to get it to stand up!

My favorite is the basket in the first picture….but I am with you…not sure how it would stand up AND to find a basket big enough for the tree stand to fit in. I like the idea too of one of your readers to swathe the base in burlap…may just do that!
Blessings….thanks for finding these great ideas!

I have always loved the way these containers look. My practical side has always wondered how hard it would be to water a tree if placed in one of these containers. I guess you don’t know until you give it a try and from what I see the end result to be I would say well worth it!

This is interesting. I probably need a tree intervention but because I have several trees I might give this a try. I have one tree skirt that I could never give up …. well at least not yet, but I must admit that I really like this clean look of a container. I’m thinking a large popcorn bucket for a smaller tree in the movie room, or a champagne bucket for a table top tree in the dining room. The options are endless!!! :)

LOVE the one in the basket-our tree is a 12 footer- so putting it “in” something might be a challenge. I wonder if I could make a box to go around it out of bead board-maybe hinge it and just wrap it around the base (kind fencing it in so to speak) hmmmm

    Melissa,
These are fun containers. I’ve used a decorative garden urn for my living room tree the past few years. It gave my tree the added height it needed, and an elegant look!

I have toyed with that idea as well. I thought our tree was far too big to be in a basket but I love the smaller trees in cute containers especially when they are in urns. So cute.

I love this. I need a way to cover up the pole at the bottom of my dinky fake tree.

What if you cut out the bottom of the basket and cut down the side to simply wrap it around your tree? That way you’re not worrying about the tree toppling over because of the unsteady basket. You could always sew the basket back up once it was on the tree. Of course, that would render the basket unusable for any other purpose, but it’s worth a thought.

I think the bucket one might solve the age old dilemma of keeping your pets from drinking all the water out of the tree. Brilliant!

I’m guessing that the trees in the basket and tub are balled trees–trees that have the roots attached and will be planted after use. When we did a balled tree, we put ours in a galvanized tub, too. Love that look.

S pretty – I have wanted to do this for years but I think it wold only work if you had a live balled tree. I have yet to find a basket or tub that would accomodate a large tree stand!

We have a 10 foot tree and I would LOVE to find a HUGE pot to put it in! Maybe next year!!!!

I love these ideas so much. I have a massive iron urn that I want to use but it would only work for an artificial tree as it’s too narrow to fit the tree stand : (
