I loved striped walls. These are a little intense,
but in small doses, maybe black & white stripes would be fun.

I have that exact chair (above) and it would be soooo cute in stripes.

I have this chair in my family room — slipcovered  with two different stripes.

Stripes make this window seat so adorable.

I was seriously tempted to buy these lampshades from Pottery Barn
when they went on sale, but it looks like they are sold out now. Humpf.Professing my love of stripes

But I do have this lampshade, which is no longer on that cabinet
but now happily lives in my son’s room.

I have a new striped rug but I don’t have a picture of it yet.
I have a striped shower curtain. Don’t have a picture of that yet either.

Stripes would have to be my absolute favorite pattern of all time. It is the one constant I have always had in my home, no matter what my decorating style or current fads were at the moment. I just love stripes. Striped carpets, fabrics, on the walls … wherever.

You can add stripes to any room. I see a lot of striped throw rugs at discount stores, they are a fun and inexpensive way to add some stripes. Or make a little striped skirt for a cabinet. Cover a seat cushion with stripes. Maybe find a striped valance for your window. Or buy some striped kitchen towels! So many easy ways to add stripes to your decor.

I love stripes. Yes I do.

I love stripes.

Do you?

(I’m feeling a little bit like Dr. Seuss}.

I adore stripes, too. Our new living room curtains are cream linen with a rusty red stripe, the cushion right next to me as I type has the same colours in a different stripe, the shower curtain’s striped, two of the rugs are striped… the only thing I love just as much is to mix stripes, plaids and florals which all share the same colours and tones, for a carefree feel that doesn’t clash and jar. I got my love of striped rugs, blankets and fabrics when I lived in Greece and Portugal. It’s one of the easiest designs for hand weaving and we had a lot of folk and country-style hand made goods.

Loved these photos – thank you!

Yes, I like stripes…have striped shower curtains…one just stripes and the other stripes with a floral pattern throughout. I love the lampshade that now lives in your son’s room and the chair with the two different stripes. Again, a lovely gathering and this time I noted you used the same photograph as used earlier. This makes me wonder how often that happens and how often I miss it. ☺

    Have a great day, Melissa!

I do love stripes, although I don’t have a lot of them in my house, now that I think about it. Maybe I need some more! They seem kind of summery, and anything summery right now is definitely appealing. Ha.

I actually really love stripes too. I’m not into a lot of patterns but stripes do so many things depending on where you place them.

That window seat i fabulous – it’s designed with storage and a small space in mind and I love it.r

I love, love, love stripes, they are a main stay in my design of my home. I did a post on the fact that I love stripes, dots and checks. I think what I love about stripes is their uniformity they look crisp and orderly and that gives me a feeling of comfort for some reason. I so enjoyed all of your pictures, a few I have in my inspiration file. Kindred spirits, Kathysue

Stripes are something that I actually don’t have that much of in my house…but I do like them, I just need to incorporate them more! I really love that first picture with all the blue and white stripes! Lovely!

I love them too, but now that I think about it, I don’t have a lot of them. I would like to add a stripe pattern in our master, I just have to find the right one. I also like the idea of adding a striped border to curtains, I could do that to our beige family room panels…hmmm…great ideas Melissa.

I have a Frenchie tablecloth-inspired lampshade from PB — it’s natural linen with small red striped borders. We repurposed an old, wooden surveyor’s tripod into a floor lamp. I wish I could share a photo! My favorite sources for striped rugs: (high end) Albert and Dash Rug Co. and (low end) IKEA.

    Melissa,
Interesting because I love stripes as well and do use them out on my deck in the warmer months (can’t wait) Great images and I think I need to pull stripes inside in some way!

The very first wallpaper I remember was in my bedroom. It was stripes. Yellow, white, orange, and green. I absolutely loved it! And my mom had added an orange shag throw rug for effect. (!) That bedroom rocked! And I’ve been in love with stripes ever since.

I like stripes too-what I love about them is that they are gender neutral. You can use them to add pattern to a room that’s not overly girly or too masculine. My man thinks that’s great for a master bedroom!

What a fun idea for a post. I may have to do something along this line myself someday but do my own spin of all the stripes I have in my home. Can you really have too many? Well yes, probably. Hopefully I haven’t crossed that line yet. Thanks for sharing. I enjoy your blog very much.

I have found myslef moving away from checks and into stripes lately. Don’t know what that’s about. A little ticking here and there and I’m contemplating an awning stripe slip for a favorite armchair and ottoman. Love stripes combined with pattern like in your first pic. And I have an almost identical bergere in my bedroom… in checks!

I love stripes too!!! They are so cheerful! I found the most wonderful cheery, multi-colored, striped fabric shower curtain at my favorite thrift store and I am converting it into kitchen curtains…I love anything that reminds me of an old fashioned soda fountain shop for my kitchen. It just makes our kitchen so bright and cheery! A fun place to be. Thanks for sharing your ideas, Melissa. My wheels are turning already…where can I add some more? LOL :)

I think the small zebra print tones down the larger B&W stripes on the wall- now a pop of bright color would perfect that space.

I like the striped version of a bulls-eye on the pillow in the pic with the curtains with the striped trim!

I’m loving ruffles- with a modern edge today…

I love stripes, too. My window treatments in the living room are fabulous and were a HUGE sale find at the Silk Trading Co. I loved them so much, that I bought an additional panel and had some pillows custom made for my couches!

PS – that first bedroom is clearly not for luvahs. ; )

I love stripes but I forgot to ask one question! What is the secret to making them all match up perfectly when you are sewing them together yourself? I know how to make fun stripes with paint and using fabric already made items is so easy and so wonderfully affective…just trying to learn to match up my stripes when sewing and would love any hints anyone might have!

Melissa, you’ve INSPIRED me and, to date, I’ve completed two decorating projects with your help! (My office last year captured your “curtain wall” from the ugly corner in your old house).

You’ve done it again but I’m stuck and looking for more information. Regarding the BHG photo of the window seat above, can you send a link or date of that photo/story on their site or magazine?

We’re embarking on a remodel of our daughters’ playroom and I love the color combo and, especially, the striped fabric of the bench cushions. Any thoughts?

    Thanks so much!

I was looking at the new March 2010 issue of Country Living and saw a bedroom you would love, too. They painted the wood floor white and gave it soft blue/gray stripes… I think I’m going to do the same in my bedroom when I finally get the carpet pulled up – except probably just do a white wash to let the grain of the wood show through.
