Inspired By: Pretty Rooms

Just spotted this lovely home (a recent college graduates first nest! wow, it pays to have a mom who is a designer!) over at Traditional Home. Some rooms just draw me right in and I have to look at them for a long time, soaking in the reasons why I am inspired. Do you study photos of rooms like I do? I love doing that. Ha, probably why I created The Inspired Room. This is truly is something I love doing!

I love the strength of the black accents in this room! I was also noticing that her curtains to not reach the ground. Not sure why they made that choice, although the moldings are so pretty I don’t even mind!

I have been swamped lately and haven’t been able to add as many Inspiring Finds lately on tumblr, but I have a few great recent ones you might want to check out on my Inspiring Finds page! Enjoy! I’ll add more soon!

It is time for our Inspired By link up! Just link to a post that fits with the theme of something that inspired you this week around the home or in life! And it is great if you link back here so your readers can come join in as well. I really love doing these “Inspired By” linkies, thanks for sharing your ideas and inspiration! If you don’t have a blog, feel free to just share in the comments.

Speaking of black accents in a room, I just added my top five posts by color in the sidebar! Scroll down a bit and look to your right (well, if you are at my blog and not reading this in email or on facebook or wherever!)

Great idea to have your top five posts listed! Love that! And the room – does it get any better than black accents? I hope not – cause I use them alot!

    Melissa,
Neat new link up! I agree this is a striking room. The black and creamy white is striking. This look would be easy to recreate and the furniture could be picked up at a second hand store and painted. This shows it’s more about style and a good idea then spending huge amounts of money. Thanks for the inspiration!

    Friday came fast this week!

The new photo linky thing is fun–I just wish they’d give me more than 10 characters to describe my post. I’m wordier than that! Ha. I was inspired by a barn that was converted into a guest house this week. Love it.

    Have a great weekend! :-)

I just have to comment on your comment about the length of the curtains….I live in a house built in the 1930’s and I have baseboards that are at least 7 inches high- I LOVE them and I never ever ever make curtains that are longer then the very bottom of my (also equally beautiful) window trim. I want to show off my trim & if my curtains fell to the floor it would be ‘cutting’ that lovely line that goes around the room. I believe this is why they chose the length they did also. Plus its a more casual look (and possibly a younger look? since I’ve noticed it in more and more 20-somethings houses lately) and since this person is a recent college grad that might have something to do with the look (a transition from casual college to more ‘formal’ adult living if you will)

    Hi Melissa,

I am not sure why the text doesn’t link up and shows the red x. The picture does link though?!

    Have a great weekend.

Thanks for hosting the party! That is a pretty room. Funny…I’ve been leaning more and more towards white and black in my decorating (not a lot but more than before). It seems crisp and clean but it can also look warm in the winter (depending on the other colors). I’m actually of thinking of painting my exterior window shutters a soft black….but it’s so hard to decide!

I love this room! I’ve been unhappy with our master bedroom for awhile now, and after seeing this post, I’m inspired to redo it in black and white! Any thoughts on an accent color that might work well in a black and white room? I’m thinking of a romantic black and white…so maybe a light purple (lavender?) as an accent color? :)
