You are never gonna survive, unless...

THE POWDER ROOM

You are never gonna survive, unless...

THE PREP WORK

You are never gonna survive, unless...

THE PEOPLE

You are never gonna survive {in a house of half-swine walls}
unless
you get a little CRAZY…

And fortunately for me, these crazy ladies and more are coming to my rescue today for a paint party. Watch out, Swine walls! SWINE BE GONE! Well, at least we will be seeing a little less underbelly of the pig colored walls after these girls are on the scene. It might take twelve more parties to erase all the swine from the house. {Watch out, if you live anywhere near me, you are gonna be invited next.}

I promise, they actually volunteered to be SWINE exterminators. They DID! I didn’t beg or bribe or hint. Well, not much any way.

Truth is, they simply took pity on me, my partially painted walls, and my busy schedule. They are that awesome. God bless ’em. It takes a village to get my house painted.

More later! Yeah, this could be a little scary.

{ps. my comments are supposedly fixed now so please, chat away. I beg of you, otherwise I will think they are broken again. I need the moral support.}

How do you get your unfinished projects done around the house?

I loved Nester’s slipcover party idea. She is brilliant like me. Invite your friends over to do the work for you, I mean WITH you. {You’ve got to love us.}

    That is SO great that you have volunteers to help you paint! When I mention painting…. everyone I know sighs and complains. A paint party sounds like fun! :)

    When we were first married we had purchased a real fixer upper. So much wallpaper to remove. We had a very fun party with lots of friends and English Muffin pizzas! Working with friends makes it fun!
    Enjoy your day!!!

    I almost thought I wrote this! Well, the part about my partially painted walls and needing loving friends to come and help me with them anyway. I love your idea of a painting party! We had actually decided to do just that for my daughter’s room – letting her friends come over and help her paint it. I now realize I need to make some new local friends, my friends are spread out all over the world and even though I think they would help me, I don’t think they would pay the airfare to get here! So when can we see the finished Powder Room? Can’t wait!!

    That is great that you have help. I miss having help. We would do that all the time and it made if fun and go fast! Since moving I don’t have my helper around anymore. I think that’s why I’ve been procrastinating so much lately! Have fun!

    Hi Melissa,
    I would love to live near you! I would be happy to come help paint. I love painting actually and I am great at trimming – I don’t even need to use painters tape! Want to fly me out? :-)

    I wait until I am absolutely sick and tired of looking at an unfinished project or until the day before company comes to find motivation to finish. Works like a charm!

    Las week I worked a little each night on painting my kitchen. It didn’t go nearly as fast as I thought it was going to, so of course on Saturday (before Mothers Day company on Sunday) I decided that I needed to get it finished. There was still some frog tape up on Sunday, but it was basically done and I was able to finish up last night!

    You and Nester are both geniuses.

    And I would like to thank you for getting that song stuck in my head. Well, the one line from that song, anyway. Because that’s all I know. And that’s way worse than the whole song.

    Cause we’re never gonna suuuuurrviiiiiiveee uuuuuunnless we getta little crazy.

    Thanks.

      Nope, these are just friends that are not even RELATED to me. I barely know them and still they are THAT KIND. That is the truly amazing part. LOL.

    Friends are my primary way of getting motivated to do something. Our dear friend Natalie helped me paint the chair rail all over our house. Used your idea … painted it the same color as the wall to make it disappear. SO much better! Thanks …

    What lovely friends you have !!! So glad they are helping you exterminate the swine, so funny! How do we deal with unfinished projects? We ignore them hoping they will finish themselves, until one or both of us finally totally lose it and declare that we can’t take it anymore and xyz is getting done TODAY! Very mature yes? We are working on a few unfinished projects as we speak because in three weeks both of our entire families are coming to stay for a weekend. And typing that out just about made me faint dead away. Oy.

    When we were young first time homeowners, hubby and I would make it a party/get-together with our friends. We’d have pizza or BBQ, beer, soda, iced tea, chips, whatever it took. We got new windows, siding, painting, wallpaper removed, sheetrock put up, spackling and taping done this way, and in a respectable time period, than anything we could have done by ourselves. Everyone showed up and a tedious project became fun. Plus, the next group knew we’d all be there for them when they got their homes.

    How wonderful to have this help. We’re in the midst of painting, too – banishing not swine walls, but yellow ochre, arizona orange, brick red. Coat after coat. Little by little. It’s fun to see the progress.

    Enjoy your painting party!

    We are new in our town and to our church but I am SO looking forward to getting to know folks and making some girlfriends so we can all do things like this with each other. So wish I could have an unpacking party! Don’t think I will ever be out from under all the boxes…LOL Have a GREAT time! And I am SO happy for you that you will be rid of all that swine pink in your powder room. Can’t wait to see the results!

    A painting party seems a great way to get a job done :)

    Our downstairs cloakroom is finished – well the dirty work is done. Now I need to accessorise and choose an accent color – the fun part…. But looking for inspiration……. suggestions welcome ! :)

    Okay Melissa,
    These are the kinda women we all are endeavoring to be, right?
    True, loyal, ready and willing to help with whatever.
    Genuine servant-hearted gals that come through when we see others ‘in need/want’.

    Wow, Melissa, you are coming through for me…BIG TIME!
    How did you know that I have two entire bolts (still in plastic wrap) of white canvas duck, awaiting my ‘courage’ to start, on the slipcovers for my old Dania 98″ sleeper sofa with 2 seat cushions, 5- 26″ back pillows, and 2-16″ toss/side pillows?
    Seriously, you are my ‘Angel’! Now, thanks to you (who sent me to…), Nester (who blogged about…), Pink, I can buy that e-book and get down to some serious measuring-cutting-sewing of slipcovers!!! How do I thank you three for ‘being here’ for me???
    The best thing I can think of is to simply pray that will God bless you all with more than you need and all the desires of your hearts.
    Thank you, thank you, thank you, {purple puddles here} T-h-a-n-k Y-o-u!

    P.S. This, now our family room sofa, is S-C-A-R-Y.
    The brown microsuede slipcover purchased 4 years ago is pilling badly. Underneath is even worse with fraying of the original emerald green/burgundy/navy ‘leaf’ fabric the sofa came with back in 1995!
    Straight seams I can do. But piping and curved arms have had me freaking out.

    I had a friend who came over one morning a week for the duration of de-wallpapering and painting two bedrooms.

    And then, my brother came for 10 days and we (he) did the kitchen and dining room! He spent three days straight in the dining room with a steamer removing SIX layers of old wallpaper. Now that’s love!

    I’m saving my bedroom and the bathrooms for this summer when I can hire/bribe/beg a teenager to come watch the kids for a week!

    in the old days it was barn raisings, quilting bees, corn shuckings, all things to get work done. We have lost something really good and should work to get it back.
