Memory Keeping:: Easy Map & Travel Art

From time to time on The Inspired Room, I like to share ideas I find for art or decor that have real meaning for your family. I ran across this neat idea at Martha Stewart and thought it would be a great one for all of those brochures, maps, admission tickets and menus we tend to bring home after traveling! Instead of stuffing them in a drawer, make them into art!

Mounting the memorabilia on a poster board would make it easy to put together. Frames can be expensive but a poster frame would be an affordable way to finish off the art and have it ready to hang! It would be really easy to update with new memorabilia in time by switching out the poster board.

I could see making one of these for a specific trip or combining many years of travels into one memorable piece of art!

This could also make a meaningful gift for someone you traveled with or a special way to showcase a child’s vacation memories.

How else could you adapt this idea?
What vacation memories are you wanting to capture from this summer?

You could use this idea under a glass coffee table as well, I would imagine. Love the use of layering, perhaps in large scale childrens art would look neat too with their ribbons ect.

I LOVE this idea…… such a simple way to connect your life and memories to your everyday environment. I truly believe decorating with items that link to beautiful memories provides some of the best food for the soul you can find.

I have some sweet memories under glass on a bedside table. I love this as it provides a way for me to see things to help me remember times with loved ones, but without having to buy a frame and mat or add more “stuff” to my house in a season where I ma trying to get rid of alot.

I love your art and love the idea also of combining several items on one poster board.

I think I will give this a try when we travel to Uganda to adopt our baby. Sort of like “labor and delivery” pictures, without the gore.

This is a great idea! I’m not a scrapbooker, so sometimes I wonder what would be a good way to organize all the little memorabilia we pick up on special trips. This is a great idea.

You could adapt this idea to chronicle an exciting event in a child’s life, especially one that was a journey in some way. Cool!

Oh I really like this! I could use this with lot’s of stuff. It would be kinda like scrapbooking for your walls. I have a few scrapbooks but I never look at them, and hate to thrust them at people to check out my pictures and work. This is perfect and looks great!

I took my first grandson on his first airplane ride when he was 8 years old. As we got off the plane I told the captain and he invited Josh into the cockpit and he sat in the captain’s seat wearing the captain’s hat. I took the picture and mounted it on a map of DC which is where we were going. It hangs in Josh’s room as a reminder of the memory he made with his Mimi! Next year I hope to take him to Cancun!
