Hey friends! Welcome! Come on in! I’m inviting you in to see my Christmas decor, even though I am not really done with my holiday decorating yet. Even though I’m keeping it very simple this year, I just haven’t finished up our trees or entry yet. But that is how it goes, real life comes first, right? But I’m glad you popped by anyway. I’ll share what I have done so far, how about that?
You might have noticed I took down our green shutter above the fireplace mantel and put up a mirror. I REALLY wanted to warm things up during the winter (I’m a cozy house girl!), so adding in some brown (with a mirror I already had) was one of the things I did to winterize, and it helped!
Remember when I mentioned that my garland fell down? Well, instead of putting it back up, I decided to use my simple snowflake garland instead and I LOVE IT!
All the silvery mercury glass shimmers and shines and looks so pretty.
When our power went out during the snowstorm over Thanksgiving we realized we could turn our chairs around like this and snuggle up really close to the fireplace! It was so cozy I left the chairs like that for awhile. Now we can turn them that way again on the next cold night!
I took my wreath (that I had on the fireplace for the past year), gave it a light dusting with my faux snow spray, and added a second wreath with white berries right on top of it. New look, same wreath!
I was missing the color red at my house this Christmas, so when I got my new DaySpring pillow, all was right in the world again.
I so wish I had a fancy camera that could take great photos at night, but you get the idea, right? Things just GLOW at night during the holidays. I love tucking my little trees here and there to replace lamps.
Cozy furry blankets are THE BEST for holiday nights by the fire! I got this one at Pier One and I love it.
Fun family night all lined up on the sofa with our popcorn, watching Buddy the Elf!
Foot fights are always fun after the movie.
Now, on to the dining room, I added a little punch of greenery to the pitcher on the armoire, and if you look near the molding on our ceiling you can see that our paint is STILL not yet done. Yay us!
Done or not, I am in love with the color of our dining room, good-bye SWINE. Behr All in One Studio Taupe is the new color. You’re welcome. I’m just giving it to you now because I know a few of you will wonder. I’ll do a dining room AFTER post someday. I will. Yes, I really will!
I had visions of completing all of my little theme trees by this week but so far, this is the only tree we have decorated. If you missed my Humble Silver Spoon Tree, you can find it here. I plan to do more of our trees this week!
I put together this little display out of a mercury glass candle stick with a mirror and cloche on top. A couple of ornaments under the cloche and it is all festive!
I printed Christmas words on my painted chalkboard (which I painted over a real oil painting), all “subway style” with my white chalkboard pen! Clearly, I’m obsessed with those pens.
It would not be MY house if we didn’t have drums in our living room. I’m just being real, we LIVE here and have a busy life that includes musical instruments. At least they are sparkly and festive for Christmas, right?
I got these Nativity Hurricanes from Dayspring!
I made this felt wreath for a bedroom door. I LOVE it! It is so easy to make too! Here is the felt wreath tutorial if you missed it.
Jingle Bell Jar in the kitchen…
Cutting out cookies for a party at church! We left a cookie sheet full of gingerbread men laying out on a kitchen chair, waiting its turn to be baked, and this little furry pup below grabbed one right off the tray. He is sneaky for being almost 16. But HOW can you get mad at THAT face?
Winston loves you all and wishes you a very Merry Christmas! I’ll share more Christmas decorating as it happens! Plus I am getting ready for company, so I have a post coming up full of my tips for preparing for holiday house guests!
Happy Christmas House Touring this week!
I linked up to Kelly’s Korner & Nester and Hooked on Houses!
What a pretty home! I love the simplicity! My favorite is the mason jar candles :)
I love your decorations Melissa. Simplicity at its best. Popcorn and family movie nights are a favorite at this house too and I’m strangely comforted by the fact that my dog isn’t the only one stealing goodies off the counter! :)
I LOVE ever picture. Just beautiful. My favorites are the cloche, the Dayspring pillow (might have to check into those!), the chalkboard, and really love the mix of ornaments & shells, etc. in the bowl. You have a magic touch! Thanks for sharing your ideas!
So much lovely here. Your mantel is simple but so festive. I’m such a fan of making old things new again, and you are a master at it. My favorite element is the mercury glass candlestick with the cloche. Thanks for allowing us in. What a treat.
Thank you for inviting me! It’s just beautiful and the popcorn was yummy!

Everything is beautiful – but I REALLY love Winston!!
Your home looks splendid! I love the way you married the mercury glass candlestick to the mirror and added the cloche—stunning result! (Not that I don’t love everything else—it’s all beautifully done.)
But I am aghast that adorable Winston is forced to steal his cookies. Give him one already!
Merry Christmas!
Your house looks wonderful! So many great ideas. Don’t you love Westies? They are the cutest dogs I think. We have a 6-year old Westie named Hobbes.

It all looks simply wonderful and, except for the pops of color and the Christmas words, could easily be a winter wonderland for January. Did you have that in mind because that makes for easy decorating…

Beautiful…what a warm, welcoming, lovely haven you have created. Love the drum set! We have musical instruments all over the place here, too! Mostly guitars, though…=)
Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year to you!
LOVE Melissa! That felt wreath is adorable — never seen a wreath look so cozy!!
Love all of your white and silver. The fireplace turned out lovely…and the wreath is so cute! I tried one of the coffee filter wreaths that is all over the blogs. The more I trimmed the worse it looked. Needless to say it did not make it to a photo.
Winston is just precious. That photo would make such a cute Christmas card.
Merry Christmas, Annette
I LOVE your decor! Mercury glass is my favorite!!!
Wow, everything is beautiful!
Gorgeous! I love all of the sweet, simple touches :)
Oh my, I’m nearly overwhelmed, its ALL wonderful! Can you come over and redo my entire house?? Love the ticking fabric on the chairs, the mercury glass, the wreaths… sigh.
My favorite was the chalkboard! It’s great!! Oh and the felt wreath!
Tell Winston he can come to Auntie Fi’s house and steal cookies any day! Oh he is adorable!!!
That Winston. He is the cutest thing! And his nice white color fits in very well with all your decor! :)

How delightful and inspiring was my visit with you today!
Thank you so very much for sharing all your unique and simple ideas in creating accessories for the home! You Rock!!
Merry Merry to you and yours during this festive season!
Oh, Melissa, Winston is SO cute! We have a Sheltie who is 14 and is getting crotchety in her hold age, but we still love her. : )
Your home is so beautiful, and I’m glad you put the paint name on there…we’re looking for a good neutral for our bedroom and that might be the one!
And I love the fact that you’re not done painting! It makes me feel so much better about ours not being finished!
Your home looks wonderful and cozy. :) I especially like the chalkboard sign.
Thanks for sharing.
(I am decorating a little at a time. Having 2 snow days has helped.) :)
Beautiful photos! I enjoyed my visit to your blog. Wishing you happiness, Katherine
P.S. I’m having a giveaway please stop by and enter :-)
I enjoyed looking at your Christmas decorating. I especially liked the chalkboard with festive and meaningful words. Do those chalk ink markers work on real chalkboards?
Where did you get the Nativity Scenes Candle holder things?? Love those!
They are from DaySpring, LOVE THEM! http://store.dayspring.com/nahucahotr.html
wow…what a brilliant idea to use sivlerplate flatware as christmas ornaments. i am a reseller of silverplate flatware and have a tremendous interest being shown in my craft grade merchandise…i wonder if this is where some of it is ending up. hmmmm…..i should drill holes in the handles and put on hooks and market them!!!
It just simply lovely as always…I just love the calm and peaceful feeling your room/house gives to those who enter (in person or online). :) Merry Christmas dear one!!

Gorgeous! I love the simplicity of the white decorations and snowflakes!
Ohh…I just love how cozy your house looks! Beautiful and classic! :)
(Gasp!) I was just catching up on an old post and stumbled across the picture of your Westie. He looks just like mine. AND his name is Winston. Just like mine. Don’t you just love those little guys? Too cute
Love everything! And Winston!! hahaha That is the most perfect name I have ever heard! He looks like a wise ole Winston! Thats awesome =)
I came across your blog by coming over from a comment you left on Centsational Girl’s blog post on taking better pictures. I was interested because you said you didn’t have a fancy camera. When I saw the beautiful images you were able to capture, I was wondering if you had any tips on creating better pictures with a good ol’ point and shoot.
My latest blog post just so happened to also involve some photography issues I have had. Any comments or help would beappreciated. I so want to have beautiful pictures to share as I grow my blog!
I was wondering what paint you used on your mantel. In the picture with the snowflake garland, I got a good shot of it and it looks so smooth and pristine. I need to repaint my woodwork in the house and I’d love to have a clean finish like that. Would you be able to email me and let me know?
Thanks so much, I am enjoying your blog from up here in Canada.
I really love your cloche idea. Would you please tell me what size you used for the cloche and candlestick. You have a lovely house and your ideas are fabulous.
