Christmas 2010
Prayer chains from church were wrapped around a tiny tree.
We remembered the needs of others and gave thanks for all the blessings we can take for granted.
Not really sure why this is laying under the tree, or what it is. Moving on.
We remembered to sing Christmas carols all the day long. (update: you can find the chalkboard idea here).
We drank lots of coffee, hot chocolate and marshmallows.
We treasured cards and gifts from friends we hold dear!
We played with furry friends (yes, Winston got his Christmas haircut).
We enjoyed traditions and laughed at silly jokes.
We remembered the Reason.
We repeated our motto when worry crept in to steal the joy.
We read the Christmas story out loud and joined the weary world in rejoicing.
(update: this ornament came from DaySpring)
Christmas at our house was really wonderful. I chose peace and it made such a difference!
We traded in laptops for heart to heart conversations, stress for fun and busyness for rest. We watched our favorite holiday movies, ate way too much goodness and snoozed by the fire often!
Today I’m saying good-bye to the last of our family guests and getting my daughter ready for surgery on Monday (tonsils!). But I wanted you to know how much my blogging friends are thought of and loved!! Thank you for stopping by and always making this blog merry & bright!
Meanwhile, praying for Edie who lost her beautiful home in a fire over the holidays. A tragedy, yet her entire family escaped unharmed — and that is a gift beyond measure.
I will pray for your daughter’s safety while in surgery, for a speedy recovery and for rest for MOM, as well.
Fondly,
Glenda
Melissa,
It sounds as if your family enjoyed a perfect Christmas. I love seeing your photos. Thanks for sharing. That Winston is so cute!
Praying that your daughter’s tonsillectomy is smooth sailing.
I’m off to read about Edie’s Christmas disaster. What a tragedy…but it is awesome that everyone is ok.

Oh! I forgot to tell you how much I love the creamy white stand I bought from your store a while back. It is so versatile…I have put several different plates on it to serve from and it is so beautiful to have things at differing heights on a table. Our Christmas Eve celebration looked sweeter for it!
Thanks!
So glad you enjoy it!! Merry Christmas!
Thank you Melissa for such a lovely post. Your home is gorgeous .. wish I could get my husband to listen to me and sort his rubbish out .. and declutter his office so that I could decorate this room and get another bedroom .. no room for family to stay . Also we need lots and lots of work done to the rest of the house ..he thinks it is fine, I say it is not!
paryers for your daughter and her surgery on tonsils.. take care Anne
Sounds like you had the perfect Christmas holiday! Keeping it all in perspective, that’s what’s soothing and comforting to me!

Melissa,
Thank you for gently reminding all of us to slow down and be thankful for our respective good fortune. Best of luck to your daughter as she goes to the hospital to have her tonsils removed.

Sounds like a wonderful holiday! I will keep your daughter in my prayers for an easy surgery and speedy recovery. Feed her lots of popsicles and ice cream. :) I have been thinking of Edie and her family all weekend. Keeping them in my prayers too. What a tragedy.
What a wonderful post and pictures melissa. I will be praying for the tonsils. I am so shocked and saddened for Edie’s loss! I’m just speechless right now! Thanks for sharing that prayer request. I will be on my hands and knees for her family.

Thanks so much for sharing the beautiful photos that describe your family’s holiday traditions! I especially love the “Keep Calm Carry On” holiday card and how you are using it as your motto for this holiday season.
I will keep your daughter in my prayers for a quick and speedy recovery. I will also keep your friend Edie and her family in my thoughts and prayers, as well.
I loved all the photos! Thanks for sharing photos of your lovely home with all the Christmas touches. I love the blackboard on the refrigerator with the white frame. Can that be purchased from a store or is it something you can make yourself?
Happy wishes for a wonderful new year!
Meredith

Good luck today with your daughter.
How’s your daughter? Hope everything went well.
Ah, Winston! So cute! :)
Also wanted to tell you how much I enjoy reading your blog. I don’t comment very much but I stop by daily.
Do you happen to know if one can purchase Mrs. Meyer’s products in Germany? I tried to find out via their website but it seems as if it’s only available in the US.
So glad you had a wonderful Christmas! Praying for your daughter today. And Edie too.

Melissa,
Your daughter is my prayers for a safe surgery and quick recovery. Your home looks lovely but the words ‘We traded in laptops for heart to heart conversations, stress for fun and busyness for rest. We watched our favorite holiday movies, ate way too much goodness and snoozed by the fire often!’ warmed my heart on this cold, snowy, windy Dec day in NJ. Christmas as it should be.
Winston looks so dapper!
Deborah
Adding you daughter to my prayer list. Tonsils out…no fun. Praying for a quick recovery with no complications.
Thank you for sharing your Christmas time with us. The prayer needs chain on the tree is very special.
Praying right now for both your darling girl and Edie. God’s love shines everywhere even in the middle of the storm.
Love the idea of the prayer chain wrapped tree and the chalkboard. I hope your dear daughter is doing well!!
It sounds like you had a lovely holiday.
Hope your daughter is doing well and will certainly pray for Edie. Such a sad story.
Dear Melissa,
I wish you and your family a beautiful, healthy, joyful, loving 2011, filled with all of Christ’s blessings. Your friend, Irene
