Escape to New York

Hello dearies!!

So happy to be back here talking to you all,  I took a little weekend trip across the country over to New York and I just barely got home!

I didn’t bring my laptop or my fancy camera, just my phone, a pocket sized camera and a carry on bag! It was good to be (mostly) unplugged for several days! I enjoyed every single minute of my trip.

Want to see what I was up to?

Got to spend most of the weekend celebrating (my daughter’s college graduation & mothers’ day!) with my oldest daughter, my mom and my sister who took this picture…

Oh, and hung out with a girl named Kate and a guy named Nate. OH MY! But more on that later. Right now, I need to hang out with my hubby and son.

Stay tuned for more on my big NY adventure and a $250 gift card giveaway!

So happy to be home again!

You are so gorgeous – I can’t believe your kids are that old. Did you have them when you were 12? ;)

Amazing pictures from your little camera phone. I love the Hook & Ladder 8 pic. pop of red with beautiful arched doorway. I paused a moment and remembered 9/11 and our most current event with the undoing of Bin Laden. NYC is charming yet frenetic and I so wish I had a little Soho in my backyard. Adorable boutique shops with great design inspirations. Love your blog and your outlook. Happy Spring and Happy Decorating!

Melissa, I love the “vintage” quality of your photos..not sure that is the proper term, but they are incredible. I look forward to hearing about your time with Kate and Nate!

How timely this post is! My husband just surprised with the news of a NYC getaway for our 15th anniversary next month! I will be waiting to read all about your trip to give me some kind of direction for my own!

We just made our dinner reservation at a restaurant that needs reservations 1 month in advance. Geesh!

Nice. It looked like you’ve enjoyed your stay in NY Melissa. :)

Did you stopped by Broadway and the 38th Street? I love these places. As a disgruntled theater “actress-singer”, I always go to Broadway every time I’m in New York. It’s my utopia.

I also love shopping for house decorations and arts /crafts in Soho.

I loved your trip to New York to look at architecture and go to cafes. I love looking at old buildings and imagining what they looked like when they were first built. In fact, almost everything I look at I see it as if it were the way I would want it to be if I could restore it or renovate it… whatever seemed warranted.
I also loved the beautiful paint colors you worked with alongside of Nate Berkus. I first fell in love with him and his work when I saw him on Oprah. I moved into my tiny ranch house in 2005 with high hopes of redecorating my almost totally beige house. I hate beige. Unless it is just a very small part of a total color scheme… like a basket… and first we had to replace the furnace, fix the disaster of a yard, rewire our house, put on a new roof, buy a new dishwasher, refrigerator, washer and dryer, replace my car, replace our water heater, and most recently get a new very basic computer as my sons need it for school and my husband for work. Add to that I have had 24 surgical procedures over the last eight years due to a domestic violence incident. Needless to say, that was from an ex-husband, and my current husband works two jobs just to make ends meet as I am unable to work. None of the original plans for beautification of the house and yard were ever completed. I feel like I am drowning in a sea of beige… and with two teenage boys and a husband who don’t understand the concept of wiping their feet… well the beige carpet throughout most of the house is awful looking. I wonder if I could dye the carpet ??? I would love to win a gift card to Lowes and get some paint. What a breath of fresh air that would be to me !!!
I am so glad I found your blog… I love looking at the pictures on your website too. So many ideas… too little money !!!
