Do you hang a flag on your porch for 4th of July?
I love how patriotic it feels to see a flag on a house. Especially if the house is a white farm house. Heh.

We hang our flag every day we are home. But on the Fourth, we add a little extra decoration (which I have to do this weekend).
We hang a flag from our porch daily. It is on the side of our house and I love to walk around from the backyard and see it with a big blue sky backdrop it reminds me to praise God for where I live and the freedom I am given daily. No other outdoor decoration makes my heart happier. I love the picture you picked, beautiful inspiration, I love that it is more than just the tradition hanging.

Two. Everyday we are home and it’s not raining! I fly a current version and the original version with the ring of stars, and nothing feels more right! Our old white farmhouse has a deep blue roof with shutters to match, inspired by the crisp colors of Old Glory. The colors of the flag also inspire much of the interior of the farmhouse, too. Loved hi. This. Post!

we want to see a picture! sounds amazing!
We have our flag up year round. I need to get going with the rest of the 4th decorations! I “decorated” my blog with red white and blue…If only it were that quick and easy to decorate the house! :) Love your blog!
It’s our duty to give honor to our nation and it’s flag obviously. It’s my daily routine to hang a flag right there top of the roof of my porch.Always when i saw it waving in the sky it feels like my chest has been increased 2 inches.
Awww it’s just a great great feeling to see my nations flag reaching up to the sky with a first light of sun daily.Your all photographs uploaded on this post is so inspirative or i can say inspiration for them who don’t hang flag daily on there porch.
THANK YOU
We hang a bunting on Flag Day and leave it up until after July 4. It’s quite faded now, but I hate to replace it yet. Such a lovely and traditional reminder of how the Lord has blessed our country!
our home is an 1890 farmhouse and it’s white with black shutters with a red front door. our flag hangs on the front porch all year long. it just looks like it belongs there. have a great day! susan
I’ve always wanted those half-round buntings to hang on the porch railings, but these inspiration pics make me think a regular American flag would be even better!
…absolutley…we fly the flag every single day…and we have kept each flag through the years of our 41 years of marriage…they are each folded properly and are on the shelves in our study…certain ones have notes pinned to them showing the significance of the time in which they were flown…the iranian hostage crisis…the persian gulf war…desert storm…9/11…the war in iraq…and now one flies until the troops come home from iraq and afghanistan…they are always replaced if they become frayed…it seems such a little thing…in comparison of the great things each represents…
I absolutely hang my American flag! I hang it 24/7. Not only does it look beautiful with a white home, but it looks pretty darn good on my red farm house as well! I hang it proudly for our country!
We have our flag hanging from the front of our tudor EVERY day! At the cabin I have flags EVERYWHERE. franki
We hang a flag every day but beginning on Memorial Day all the way through Labor Day we line our stairs going up our very steep driveway with flags. The neighbors have begun to expect it and say it signals summer for them. How fun to have that impact on people…Happy 4th!
We have a flag hanging almost every day – but from a freestanding post.
Love the way they look – especially on a white farmhouse too!
But mine looks pretty great in our garden with the white picket fencing!
Yes, and we fly our every day. It’s a reminder to us of what a great country we live in and the sacrifices made for our freedom.

Had to repost, I hate typo’s!
I fly a flag nearly every day. Depends on how windy it is! Sometimes I’ll change out to a seasonal flag but on any important American holiday, I’ll fly the USA flag. :-)
Hi Melissa-
Yes, We always have a flag flying on holidays. It is not only good for showing we support our country, but it reminds me of my childhood. Displaying a flag on holidays was a big deal in my neighborhood. My brother, sisters, and I used to fight on who got to put it in its holder. I love when I go through small towns and see homes with bunting and red white a blue all over. It makes me want to go to a 4th of July Parade, but they are hard to find anymore.
My best- Diane
Melissa, I *love* hanging my flag. It usually goes up for Memorial Day and stays through the Fourth of July. Last year I even found some fun stuff from my basement stash and added, judiciously, some extra red, white, and blue to my porch. It made me happy. And I love a little USA pride!
How about you? Will there be a flag hanging out in your new outdoor redo?
We have about 10 small-ish flags tucked in the planters, flower pots and wreaths on the front porch and back deck.
I don’t, but these photos make me want to! I’m in love with that first house at the top. Gorgeous.
YEP! We have ours flying 24/7 on a legit flag pole my husband installed when we first moved in (although I know that there are certain rules regarding flying procedures) We also have a MIA flag flying underneath it, and the “Don’t tread on me” flag as well. We LOVE our country, and show it proudly.
Love flags flying in the wind – unfortunately I have no where to hang one right now. One day!
Melissa
I need a new flag pole, I think these images may be the very inspiration I need to get one!
Happy Friday,
Karen
We have a flag flying all year which is illuminated by a spotlight which comes on at dusk and off at dawn. We live on an Army Post in a 1909 brick duplex with a massive “L” shape porch. The porch is 12′ high, each corner of the porch has 3 columns and railings with carved balusters. The bunting goes up before Memorial Day and comes down in early August. Being on a military installation the flag has great meaning because we are proud of our active duty spouses and all that the families do to support them. Being in this house with the flags hanging on all these historic porches reminds us of the sacrifices made throughout the years as families have come and gone in these houses during the last 100 years. If these walls could talk . . .
Proud to be an American and of my military husband who has served for 20 years!
I don’t have a home, but some of my ftiends who do have an American flag out front everyday.
We have a very tall flag pole with a 4′ x 6′ flag that we fly every single day of the year. We take it down only when it’s been damaged and needs to be repaired/replaced. The United States flag should always be used with proper etiquette. This site explains all the proper etiquette rules for Our Flag. http://www.usflag.org
As a mother of two sons serving in our US Armed Forces, our Flag and our National Anthem serve as a reminder of all the men and women who have served and are currently serving in the Armed Forces, to keep our country “One Nation, Under God, Indivisible, With Liberty and Justice for ALL”. God Bless America everyday….Fly Our Flag Daily!
I love hanging a flag out front on Memorial Day, Flag Day, and Fourth of July! Even if the outside of my house or even my landscaping isn’t the nicest (and honestly could use some major sprucing up), having the flag out there just makes it so pretty! : )
We have a flag hanging from our home everyday. We add some extras around the 4th.
We live in an apartment but I do have an American flag garden stake that I keep in one of our plants.
We hang our flag out on our front porch every day that there is nice weather, but especially on July 4th!
Unfortunately we don’t have one to hang at the moment but have discussed trying to find a good way to mount one. My Mother had one on her porch and puts it up at dawn and down at dusk every day.Thinking of you and leaving some ♥ on your blog, have a happy weekend!
Nope. But every year, a realtor goes around the neighbourhood putting flags on everyone’s yards (for Canada Day). It makes a great image to look down the street and see all the flags lined up. Gorgeous pictures! I want a white farmhouse! My cousin just bought one, and I am completely jealous ;-)
We hang our flag, with a spotlight at night, every day. I love how it welcomes me home. It’s not a white farmhouse, but a basic, post WWII brick cape which will someday get some whitewashing. On Memorial Day and the Fourth I add classic red, white and blue bunting to our front gate. It’s not the wide front porch with an ocean view that I dream of, but it’s ours and makes me smile.
We proudly fly our flag on all holidays, when the weather allows. Hope for a “real” flag pole one day. Our small town puts flags on poles in the ground all along every major street for each flag holiday. Love driving through town on those days and see them waving in the breeze.
Our flag is hung everyday but from Memorial Day Weekend – Labor Day Weekend we add stars and striped bunting!
Your Friend,
Deborah
I hang seasonal garden flags and banners throughout the year; yes. Beginning in May in honor of Memorial day, Flay Day, and the 4th of July I have bunting and flags all around the house — the back door, the front door, small flags in all of the planters, flag pinwheels, etc. etc. We are a Marine family and the flag is very special to us. I am a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and my chapter honors those that flag their flag proudly with certificates for doing so and I love to have these certificates mailed to neighbors who fly their flags. We are currently stationed in Michigan and I must say that having been stationed at the largest Marine Corps bases in the country, I am AMAZED and awe inspired at the patriotism that is evident everywhere you go here in Michigan. The flag is flown proudly and prominently all over the state! Semper Fi!!!!
We try to always have the American Flag flying on the front of our house, except for when it’s raining or snowing. Time to put some flags in the planters as well.
Loved all three homes!
We hang our flag on the 4th and on every national holiday. Ours hangs on our porch just like the first picture.
@Connie&@Meredith-Bless you for noting flag etiquette! Daddy is a proud Marine of the SouthPacific in WWII, and one of 5 IwoJima survivors in the country county in which I was blessed to have grown up. He was the expert witness in flag cases in several county courts, and still a proud MarineCorpsLeague member. Even after the subdural hematoma&1st broken hip,he sat on his “rollator”and sorted Toys for Tots,as he had religiously for20yrs. Momma(currently in ICU, fighting to get back to Daddy, prayers welcome?)was in the WAAC&WAC@the Pentagon in troop logistics for the duration-even detailed to Eleanor Roosevelt&responsible for the fox stole on occasion! Add a nephew in DesertOne,and I *always*display the colors! But it must be proper! I have taken to doing bunting for the lighting & raising/lowering issue. I used to keep a blue spot on the flag, on a timer; then it showed wear& I presented it to the MCL for proper disposal (burning, with Taps). I am sadly dismayed&will stop &raise ANY flag I see touch the ground.
CONT’D-sorry, I am vocal on this issue! PLEASE-when u see the little flags at polling places touching the ground, lift them. It breaks my heart. PLEASE-if you cant display the flag according to etiquette, like lighted, or taken down at dusk, USE BUNTING. If your flag becomes tattered in our glorious free breezes, replace it, and present to a recruiting office or veterans’ group for proper disposal on FlagDay. And PLEASE-just once-take your family to a FlagDay ceremony in your community. Watch the gentle, respectful proper folding, and the salutes as the flags are burned and Taps is played by a lone bugler. You will be forever changed in how you treat the Colors. Do it for someone you love, someone you’ve lost, someone that needs to care more. OOOORAH & SemperFi, from a proud&emotional veterans’ daughter. Thank you for allowing me to say my piece. :)
Our neighborhood is filled with flags 6-7 times a year as some precious older gentlemen from the local Rotary Club take the time to put out 100s of flags in our yards on all the “national pride” holidays.
I’m glad to see that so many people fly the flag daily! We do when the weather allows.
When we remodeled the exterior of our house last fall I insisted we include a mounting plate for a flag bracket. I love to see the colors flying on a breeze!
Absolutely!! We hang our Flags high at my house!!and my little shop is full of the Red,White and Blue at the moment:))
I even found a fun bowling bag from the 50’s that looked patriotic…so cute! I stopped by the shop today and it already sold…
I love the porches you shared:)
Take Care,
Kay Ellen
This will be our first 4th of July in our new cottage-style home, complete with front porch. This has absolutely inspired a project for me this week! I think I wil go the bunting route though as I don’t think I have the energy and storage space currently to properly care for/maintain atrue flag. Still I would like to do a little something to spice up the house or summer and share a little patriotism with my small children. My daughter loves to decorate, so we’ll do it together.
I have the flag flying at my home….all year round…but especially on the 4th of July:)
Yes! We fly the flag every day from the front porch. And we live in the boonies. Old Glory flies in every corner of the USofA.
Jody
We sure do! Our flag waves proudly from our porch and my heart swells with pride each time I see it.
