Hey all, I offered to write a guest post for Melissa while she focused on the recovery of her daughters health after an emergency appendectomy. I’m Kim from Today’s Creative Blog. I met Melissa online a few years ago and finally in person this July. Funny how blogging can make you instant friends. Over at Today’s Creative Blog, I feature the most inspiring blogs out there. In fact Melissa was one of my first features.

A bit ago, I featured Stacy with Not Just A Housewife. Let me introduce you!

Outdoor living

I have got to show you her outdoor space!

Backyard Ideas {Not Just a Housewife}

I also met Stacy this past April and was first stunned on how beautiful her skin was. So not only does she have a beautiful home, but her face is also flawless. Before I had anytime to feel jealous, I fell in love with her warmth and talent. I was thrilled to see her in the latest Better Homes and Gardens. If you know anything about me…….and you may not……but I love it when people decorate with things they already have or with new found low cost items. Taking something and making do, but making it better is always a better way. It certainly shows more personality and that’s what makes your house a home, right? Imagine walking into Stacy’s backyard and seeing this whimsical door divider. You are instantly charmed…..well at least I would be.

My mind is on outdoor spaces since we JUST started getting some of that summer weather.

I love how she took older doors from a previous home and made them new again. This is the perfect back drop creating a beautiful focal point for her yard. They are still working on their deck off the house, so this will work in the mean time.

Who doesn’t have a few mason jars around the house?

Backyard Ideas {Not Just a Housewife}Once again, I think they add instant character to your outdoor space. In addition to using them for hanging vases, you could use them to decorate your table, holding candles, or to drink from. Everything tastes better from a Mason jar right?Backyard Ideas {Not Just a Housewife}

To add character to her fence and to continue her theme, she added planter boxes. Much nicer to look at don’t you think?Backyard Ideas {Not Just a Housewife}

Add the wood boxes to the brick wall below really helped bring more comfort to this sitting area she created. I’m ready to attend a party in the back yard! Dibs on that turquoise chair.

Another older item you may have around is an old ladder. Why not paint it, add some colorful pots?

Stacy’s outdoor area didn’t cost a lot of money and she used items she already had, built or picked up at a yard sale. With a little imagination, you can create a whole new look.

From Melissa: Hope you all enjoyed Kim’s post as much as I did! Thanks Kim! It is a wonderful privilege to be able to take care of my daughter while she recovers from her surgery. We found out her appendix had in fact ruptured so she has a longer recovery time. Thank you all for your wonderful support! More inspiration to come this week!

    Melissa,

    Scary about the ruptured appendix! Yikes. I assume this is the daughter you thought had the flu?

    Those are fun backyard ideas – I love to see what people do with stuff they already own or make.

    Glad your daughter is on the mend!

    Hi there I’m Brittany writing on behalf of Gilt Home. I have to say this is one of the most creative spaces I’ve ever seen. It looks like an entrance into a different world, kind of like Alice and Wonderland! It would be honor to see these pics on Gilt Home’s Room of the Month contest, if that’s alright with Stacy of course. This month’s theme is alfresco, and this space would be perfect. Here is the link to the contest (http://t.co/6yC1S9s). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or just want to chat design. And thank you so much for taking over Melissa’s blog for her while she’s away, it was really cool to read about such a strong friendship.

    Sincerely,
    Brittany Foster
