My Dog Ate My Camera Cord {and other awesome excuses}

So I’ve had grand aspirations of doing another blog post soon. Really, I’ve been trying.

Between crazy disasters, puppy chaos, being on the other side of the country without a computer, working on several big creative projects, our church relaunching this week in our new building (pictures are on my camera and I cannot wait to show you what we’ve been up to since I last posted on it!), and the bad news of my computer dying and Jack chewing on my camera cord enough to break it, I’m feeling a bit out of my blogging rhythm.

In the chaos, I even forgot to host the Fall Nesting Party I usually have early in September. That is lame. I’ll put a linky on THIS FRIDAY the 16th if you would like to link up your fall nesting posts!! You can do a little Fall nesting around the house or share a project from last year and then link up posts! So be here Friday the 16th for the party!!

Back to my camera cord and computer woes, I did a whole Drive By for you in downtown Charleston and on Hilton Head and I can’t show you any of it (except this one lone photo that ended up being loaded) until I get a new camera cord. Right now I’m using my husband’s computer to post, but it looks like I am going to have to buy a new Mac soon. RIP old Mac. When it rains, it pours I guess.

The good news is, though, I had an amazing time in Hilton Head hanging out with the other writers from (in)courage and dreaming about the future and what it could bring.  {I had to steal other people’s pictures for this post.}

DaySpring and Hilton Head Island Chamber of Commerce hosted the (in)courage bloggers for a long weekend of dreaming and planning for the (in)courage community, along with relaxation and fun. Resort Rentals of Hilton Head Island generously provided beautiful beach front accommodations. Thank you to DaySpring for taking such good care of us. Special thanks to Jessica Gardo from the Hilton Head Island Chamber of Commerce for helping coordinate our trip and being so fabulous the entire weekend.

It was an amazing weekend and I feel so blessed to have been a part of it!

(in)courage and Dayspring are planning a fun “in real life” beach party-ish (un)conference  for bloggers and non-bloggers all over the world in 2012 and I hope hope hope you’ll plan on being there! I’ll probably host one of the meet up sites at our church building so if you live in the area you can come hang out with me and others in our community. You can check it out and sign up for the webcast portion of the event here. It should be super fun!

Thanks to you all for hanging out here with me even with my disasters. In spite of all that has happened lately, August was the biggest month ever so far in my four years with The Inspired Room even with my lowest number of posts. How in the world that happened, I don’t know. Guess that means you all prefer I talk less so you can read more — this broken computer and camera cord might be for the best!  Ha!

Much love to you all. I’m really happy that fall has arrived (complete with cool breezes through my window today!). Don’t forget, this Friday, link up a Fall Nesting post!

Frequently asked question in the comments: Doesn’t Jack have any dog toys or bones to play with?

Answer: Yes. But he prefers non-dog toys like paper, cords and feet.

    I feel your pain! Our 13 yr old family dog passed away so we quickly got a puppy. Fun! Fun! Fun! Sleepless nights and 2 chewed lamp cords we thought, “This isn’t so bad. Let’s get another”. WHAT?! So now we have a 1 yr and a 6 month old Australian Shepperds. I think I am getting to old for this. :)

    I’ve never had a dog chew through a camera cord, but we did have a cat that chewed through the cord for our mouse. Cat…mouse…it was too funny to be mad!

    That’s why we have chickens. (Henrietta, Peck and Gladys) No cord chewing! :)

    Isn’t God good? Really he is all the time. But…he surely is showing you his love, grace and most of all that he really is taking care of you despite (the opposition) the stuff of life that would seem to bring your blog to a halt. Yep! Romans 8:28 is more real to me when life is tough…God’s goodness shines even brighter.

    BTW…my Poppy loves to chew on all things string. Did you ever notice that almost everything electric/electronic has a ‘string’ – a few years back it was really inconvenient when she chewed the ‘tail’ off the mouse. All computing came to a halt! Well…at least it was a good story to write and e-mail to my friends. Golly…if I’d had a blog she could be my story. Cute as a button, the runt of the litter, and just a bit silly, make up for all that string chewing…most of the time. Oh…Poppy is a small cat.

    Enjoy your gorgeous fall day!

    Oh that does explain a lot. Sorry about all the mishaps. Hope that the pup learns to chew on his own toys and leaves yours alone!

    As a dog owner, the one thing I know about dogs is you can have three boxes full of dog toys and the pup will want to gnaw on your new furniture leg, expensive shoes, the ends of kitchen cabinets…anything other than their toys. Fortunately, after they get older, this habit subsides but until then watch out!

    By the way, your puppy is so cute. Hard to be angry at such a cutie for long.

    I don’t know how you do it all—- please tell =)
    Have a great day

    As the owner of 3 dogs, I’ve learned the secret to a good puppy. A good puppy = a tired puppy! Our dogs get at least an hour of off leash running and playing every day. We’ve never had a problem with any misbehavior – unless we skipped their exercise the day before.

    The joys of pets. Luckily my laptop has a card reader so I don’t need a computer cord, but my cat did chew through my power cord (although it may have just crapped out on it’s own…it wasn’t really very clear what the real issue was). But sometimes a lack of computer can bring on some time well spent. Congrats on the great August with your site! I wish I had half as much motivation and drive as you have.

    My girls were late to school one time because our dog caught fire…..as God is my witness our dog caught fire. Fortunately for him he had long hair at the time and it didn’t reach his skin before I put the fire out. He just had a bare patch on his side that was sort of……um…burnt orange colored.

    So stuff happens, and all you can do is all you can do.

    It’s just a good thing Jack is as adorable as he is. lolol

    Good luck with the computer thing, and glad your absence was not another emergency surgery or something.

    Hugs and much love!!

    Good Morning Melissa,

    I am so happy to have found your blog/you, purely by accident I might add. I read your posts every morning before going to a job that I’m not insane about. You have not only helped me to understand that “imperfect” is ok and that inspiration in the home is a process, but after reading your words, I always feel a little more peaceful and happy. Thank you Melissa. Can’t wait to continue down the path you’ve helped me to find. Happy fall to you and yours.

    Good Morning Melissa,

    I am so happy to have found your blog/you. It was purely by accident I might add. I read your posts every morning before I go to a job that I am not exactly insane over. Not only have you helped me to accept that fact that “imperfect” is ok and that inspiration in the home is a process, but after reading your words, I always feel more peaceful. I can’t put my finger on the reason..it just is. Thank you Melissa. I can’t wait to continue down the path that you have helped me to find. Happy fall to you and yours.
