Inspired Holidays {Day 9}:: Things to Treasure List
Ralph Lauren

One of my most popular posts three years ago was a simple list. 20 Little Things to Treasure in Autumn. It was just a simple typed list of things I treasured about the season. It wasn’t done up with fancy fonts or turned into an amazing craft, it was just a humble list.

In spite of its simplicity, it ended up being reposted on blogs like Apartment Therapy and inspired many others to create their own lists of things they treasured in Autumn.  As we’ve talked about, often it is the most simple of ideas that mean the most to us and end up having the greatest impact on people around us.

I shared the link to that post recently on Facebook, but if you haven’t seen it or want to see it again, you can find my 2008 20 Little Things to Treasure list here. Go ahead, go look. The photos alone inspire me to want to nestle in to a big cozy bed with a good book.

And for real, I look at this list a few times EVERY AUTUMN because it reminds me of all the things I love about the season and keeps me from obsessing over things that really don’t matter as much to me!

I love to include things on my autumn list that involve my senses because they seem to embed memories in my mind more vividly.

Oh I’m definitely going to check out your list again. I wrote one, too, that year and I just revisited it today because one of my readers did. That’s usually how I find and think about former posts. Off for a bit of reminiscing…

Hi, Melissa, Fall is my favorite season as well and my 31-day series highlights everything that makes me happy this time of year. Warm colors, fuzzy throws, my favorite slippers. I appreciate clear blue skies on a cool Fall day and the colors of the leaves that can change overnight. I’m enjoying your 31-Days so far! :)

Yep, pretty perfect. I even had the squash tonite – baked with brown sugar and butter. Mmmmmm.

I love Ralph Lauren! Something about the “equestrian chic look”! Maybe it has something to do with growing up with horses, I don’t know but I’m always drawn to it! Thanks for sharing….it just gave me a great idea!

Hi Melissa – there are so many things to treasure about autumn, not the least of which is Mother Nature’s show. As it’s Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend, it’s all about things to be thankful for – family gathering, the ability to be able to create a wonderful meal, watching the grandchildren laugh as they carve pumpkins, sisters helping in the kitchen. And the comment you left on my little blog – thanks for visiting.

I had never thought much of it before but what you said is true, most of my reasons for loving autumn involve my senses. I love apple picking, pumpkin carving, the smell of baked squash, hot cider, the leaves changing color, the crisp weather…the list could go on and on. I am in complete agreement with you when you say this is your favorite season :)

I had a wonderful time yesterday walking my dog appreciating fall!!!! I got to pick up some beautiful red, orange and yellow leaves and cute green pinecones. What did I do with them? Put the leaves in a red syrup jar on the table and the pinecones in a clear glass mug. I love decorating with fall nature things. It is free too!

Every now and then I reread the list I made in response to yours. And I still really look forward to everyone one of those things – the yummy pot pies, my Harvest candle, football, jeans, sweatshirts, sweet potatoes, and memories created with friends and family!

I loved your list. You have inspired me to share my favorite things about Autumn too. In fact I think I will share my list tomorrow. Thank you! :D

I just LOVE this season! The warm, coziness of snuggling on cool nights…gorgeous sweeps of color across the Ozark hills surrounding our house…hot cider…bringing out the warm and comfy things that make me smile and want to stop…slow down and just enjoy a good book or time with my family.

Thanks for sharing your favorite things…you inspire so many, including me, to stop and take a moment to reflect on our own!

    Blessings!
