How to Decorate {New Series & Category on The Inspired Room}

Exactly one year ago today (coincidentally!) I wrote a post called How to Decorate and filled it with links to posts on my blog that I found were helpful in explaining my own “decorating” thought process.

After that How To Decorate round up post, I had many requests from readers for additional basic “how to” decorating help.

In response to those questions and the ones I receive everyday, I’ve decided to reorganize a bit around here and start a new category and series on The Inspired Room called How to Decorate {Decorating 101}.

I think best thing about this new series is it will not only be what I consider to be pretty practical and useful information, but these How To Decorate tips will be a part of an ongoing series mixed in with regular content. How to Decorate will actually become permanent more easy to navigate category of The Inspired Room, to inspire your own decorating process, always and forevermore!

I’ll officially announce, reveal and explain how and when you will find these easy to follow and learn from tips and inspiration in an upcoming post. I’m pretty excited about it.

My blog is currently undergoing some behind the scenes maintenance and design/format updates. but as things come together, I’ll begin to explain how to find your way around and get the most out of every visit here.

I know how busy we all are, so I want to offer you content that is streamlined, useful, inspiring and as easy to use as possible! Organizing old and new content in a way that is more useful and easy to navigate is kind of time consuming, but I hope the end result is going to be so helpful!

Practically speaking for this new How to Decorate series, I’ll be going through the process of decorating my own office from beginning to end in the next few months. I will sprinkle some of these home office decorating posts in to this practical new How To series, as I try to explain my thought process along the way, discuss where and why money is (or is not!) spent and share some of the basic ideas, tips and resources I use to pull a room (and a home) together.

I think we can learn so much by observing how others decorate their homes, seeing where they start to update a room (and why), even watching the mistakes they make and how they correct them can inspire us with confidence in decorating our own home. The process of decorating a room step by step  is a fun, sometimes flustering, but always interesting experience. Even if the style of the spaces are different from the direction you want to go in your home, the process of creating the room can be similar and inspiring to your own projects.

Stay tuned for the beginning of How To Decorate!

Meanwhile, feel free to browse the original How to Decorate round up post from last year, or check out the archives to see what has been going on !

PS. Did you see I was nominated for an award! YAY! Here is what it is and how you could vote for The Inspired Room.

If you have any specific questions or things you wish I would address in this new How To Decorate category, be sure to send me an email or leave me a comment! I’ll be rounding up as much useful information as I can and hopefully addressing everything you’d need to know in order to create a beautiful home on a reasonable budget.

I am very happy that in your new series you will be doing your office, Melissa! Me, too! Will you cover bookshelf styling? Sigh. I have a ton of books, but I don’t want the shelves to look like the public library. . .I think I need practical (all the books) and pretty (a nice arrangement w/a few decorative things mixed in).
    Blessings,
    Sindy

    • Melissa says:

Thanks Sindy! I will cover EVERYTHING I can think of to do with decorating! So yes, styling bookshelves for sure! I will endeavor to cover things people are interested to read, so I appreciate the suggestion of what would be helpful!

I took most of the covers off my books and organized them by color. I LOVE how it looks and has become the focal point of our living room. :) I am also super excited for this new series. How to decorate an apartment that you cannot paint, would be one that I’d be keeping an eye out for. :0

Hi – I love looking at your blog. I enjoy reading your posts and looking through all the great decorating ideas. I would be interested in ideas on decorating a 2 story family room as well as bedrooms/bonus rooms that have angled ceilings. I’d love to hear decorating ideas for these “odd-shaped” rooms. Looking forward to seeing more of Decorating 101. Thank-you!
