Get Ready for Spring {Ideas to Inspire}

Spring Mantel

We are in that season where I really want it to be spring,  but it just snowed, so it still feels more like winter. Because, well, it is winter. But we can dream a little, right?  And maybe the snow will melt everywhere and flowers will pop out of the ground and birds will chirp and the sun will come out we can open the windows and smell fresh air without freezing to death.

Sound good?

I thought if I start getting some supplies ready, when the urge strikes, I’ll be ready to SPRING into action. So let’s look back at a random selection of spring projects and decorating I did last year that might be just right for getting me, and maybe you, in the spring mood THIS year.

Fairy Garden

I know if you are a regular around here, you might have already seen this, but I’m proud of it, ok? I put together this little project last summer and I am obsessed now to make more. OBSESSED. Variations of this will be happening starting THIS SPRING. I’m going to make so many miniature gardens that people are going to look at me funny and start calling me that crazy lady who makes fairy gardens.

Decorating with Spring Eggs

This is a really easy one that would be great for Easter. Get some plastic eggs at a store like Michaels’ craft. Find some branches in your yard or some faux ones while you are at the craft store. Put them in a glass hurricane jar. Voila, spring. I’m going to recreate this one for sure. Lots of ideas in the spring egg post too.

Spring Tables

And while we are gathering up spring things, start to think about those tables! Little nests, sweet eggs, moss, bunnies, spring dishes, flowers, what else is kinda springy?

It is also time to think about spring decorating. Time to freshen our home and overall look! Pillows are one of the easiest things to change for the seasons. I’m a pillow (pello?) fanatic so more pillows will be coming my way.

And of course, it is a good time to think about our spring mantels (top picture)! Gotta get to work on mine.

Lastly, if you weren’t glued to my Facebook statuses yesterday, here is a bonus sneak peek into a project I’m working on at my house right now. It is a long ways from being done, but you got to start somewhere, right?

Maybe you have a bigger project you are wanting to gear up for, too?

Are you ready for Spring?

We have a freshly fallen foot of snow in our yard at the moment but I too have a yearning for Spring! Your Spring touches are wonderful. I love the ‘Fairy Garden’ and can understand why you want to make more.

No snow (to speak of – we had a brief snow flurry) this year, so it’s been feeling like spring for a while here in north Texas.

I love, love, love your fairy garden!

I typically don’t decorate my house for the seasons (the only time I specifically “decorate” is for Christmas), but you’re inspiring me to start thinking of putting some spring in my house.

    Have a great weekend.

Today we’ll have sunshine and 63 degrees!!! And then tomorrow it’ll snow. I’ll enjoy today and tomorrow I’ll put my blinders on!!! Heehee!

Do you find this time of year difficult for decorating? I still have winter greens in my very large front window box. My faux greens wreath is hanging on the front door…I hot glued some red hearts all over it in a whimsical kind of way…it is cute…at least doesn’t say Christmas. I won’t do St. Patty’s…Valentine’s is a little tacky…but St. Patty’s is well…I’m not Irish – Haha! It’s too early to put up my yellow forsythia wreath…and too early to put something in my window boxes….but I’m having guests tonight. I scratch my head and wring my hands and get frustrated because this is like no-mans-land in decor-time. Or am I wrong? Do I start NOW with spring decor???
P.S. Love all the inspiration. And fairy gardens!!

      Hi Diane

You spoke right to me – I never know what to do at this “in between” season. Usually I try to replace anything wintry with some pussy willows at this time of year. But my one and only grocery store in town doesn’t have them yet.

It is a little bit of an in between time, isn’t it? That is why I start dreaming about spring, and then I evolve bit by bit…

Love anything this time of year that makes it feel more like spring. It’s snowing here in Colorado today too!

I love anything to do with nests, nesting and unnesting (what you start doing when the kids are out of the nest). They’re all such a part of a woman’s life. These are adorable – love the plastic eggs in the glass vase too. Lovely.

This really was my only available space, but yeah, the ending point is tricky. But it is very unfinished right now — I’m still working on the details of how to end and finish, we’ll see if I figure anything out or give up!

I was just thinking of getting out the bit of Spring decor I have although I am in the middle of a closet cleaning project. Then tomorrow we have an appointment at a flooring business and I’ll be forced to make decisions – ack! So much easier to do research, pin, etc., then to chose. Will I really like it? Can we afford it? How long will the house be torn up? Bathroom flooring, kitchen flooring, entry tiles, bedroom carpets. Wish me luck!

Oh yes, I know that feeling! I bet you will love it in the end! I’ve got a bunch of carpet that needs to GO and those questions are stressing me out too! :-) Good luck! Hope it all goes well!

Snow here, too. It just proves how spoiled I’ve been that I consider March snow an affront this year.

To overcome the feeling, I think I’ll just borrow an idea or two from your place.

Melissa, last week I had the windows open and was loving it, this week it is raining and I am loving that too. I like to cozy in for a few days. Love all your inspiration and I am just like you with the fairy garden. I did one a couple of years ago and it is one of the favorite things in my backyard, they are just so charming. We even put a little pond in one of ours, of course we had to fill it up every couple of days, the birds discovered it and came for a drink or two!! So fun to do, a great family project.

Hi Melissa. I’m new to your blog and am loving it so far. Thanks for the Spring pics. I needed to look at something bright and cheerful on such a gloomy day in Seattle.

Hi Melissa, so ready for Spring on this end too. I love the fairy garden and I also clicked over to see your new map-wallpaper project. Now, that’s a very unique look. I like it and I think I would love that in a library or at least a room with lots of books nearby. Can’t wait to see how it all comes together so I’ll keep an eye out for that post.

Pop over to see my effort to rework my foyer. Not done yet but I think it’s a fair start. Enjoy your weekend.

Spring is in the air- even if there is snow outside my door. I’m gathering and collecting ideas so that I’m ready when it arrives! Thanks so much.

I definitely am ready for Spring! I did a lot of bumming around Michael’s and Hobbly Lobby last weekend getting some ideas! Cannot wait for the end of the cold weather.
