Hello, HAPPY! {4 Cheery Summery Spaces}

Country Living Book Nook

Sunshine is a fairly surefire way to feel HAPPY, don’t you think?

I know I’m always happier when the sun comes out. Maybe because we don’t get quite enough sun around here to fill up our happy tanks year round. As I always say, sunshine on my shoulders makes me happy. :-} Even though summer is supposedly on its way, we can’t always count on SUN here in Seattle. So I’m thinking the next best thing to the sun coming out is to dress up a room with a little summery cheer.

Are you with me?

HELLO, HAPPY BOOK NOOK!

OK, so that book nook (above)? Is that fabulous or what? That fabric and paint has HAPPY all over it. The perfect place to kick back and enjoy a good summer novel! I’d be ever-so-happy in there. Wouldn’t you?

HELLO, HAPPY SWING!

And how relaxing would it be to snooze on that hanging bed on a nice summer evening? I can almost feel the sway of the swing and the breeze zzzzzzzzzzzzzz lulling me to relax and drift off to sleep. Even if it wasn’t a hanging bed, the fact that it is painted a bright coral? Completely HAPPY.

HELLO, HAPPY LIVING ROOM!

This room is all dressed up in its summer finery of color and pattern! How could you NOT smile in a room like that? HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. I love that it retains a cozy feel by the way the furniture is arranged, but still feels as alive and happy as the summer sun shining through the windows. HAPPY = Seeing this room.

HELLO, HAPPY BREAKFAST NOOK!

And last but not least, I’d cast my vote for this room as the HAPPIEST breakfast nook, ever. The cushions are just the right plumpness to draw you in for some OJ and some tasty summer berries with your cereal. And the light fixture? The bright little yellow tulip candle holders are happy all by themselves. This whole space is bright, cheery and yes, full of HAPPY.

So how do you get the look of HAPPY at your house?

Start with 3 coordinating but not matching colorful fabrics for pillows or curtains and/or a bright and cheery paint for a furniture piece. Spread the happiness around the room. Enjoy!

Do you crave a little more HAPPY in your house in the summertime like I do?

Those are definitely happy rooms! Thanks in part to the pretty colors and a BIG dose of white in 3 out of the 4. They are all so beautiful. Color color color gives me a happy space…and most specifically yellow – pillows and FLOWERS!

HAPPY in the summer is packing up all the quilts, throws, pillows, heavy-scented candles. Good-bye to the heavy mugs and hot drinks, hello to pretty green depression glass and sparkling iced tea.

And goodbye to slipper socks and hello to pedicures. Swinging hammocks and wide open windows and fans to spread the breeze … inside or out.

Yes I crave it too! I tend to pare down on the accessories and add in things that feel outdoorsy and cheery. I saw the first room in my CL ‘zine. I feel in love right away…what a cozy guest nook. I just might find myself there doing a bit of day dreaming. And the coral swing. GORGEOUS!! For sure I’d never get any work done.
Did you bring a little happiness home from the Big Apple?

If I had that book nook I just might disappear and no one would ever see me again. ;)

I too would disappear into that nook! But I might be hiding from the Texas sun! I’m sorry you are having to wait to see the sun. Apparently it really loves us down here in the South, ’cause it sets up camp here all summer! Thanks for the inspiration to brighten up our spaces.

Loving the summery colors you posted!! Yes, I love to have happy around me in my home. I have to have happy colors all year long. In the summer I try to add more cool blues and greens to the mix since here in California we get some really hot summer days! I also add more white for crispness and freshness. I have been busy getting my summer wardrobe in order, did some jewelry organizing yesterday. I posted about it. I felt like I was playing dress up!! Happy Wednesday!!

I saw that book nook yesterday while skimming through the current issue of Country Living and I love it! It’s actually a guest bed, according to the mag. My house guests aren’t that lucky, lol.

I bring happy into my home year-round with fresh flowers on the table, usually in a pretty white vase. In the Summer I let the kids leave damp pool towels that have made it into the house and wet board shorts conveniently hanging on the towel hooks in the bathroom. The rest of the year I’m picky and make sure only pure white towels hang there. In the Summer, I’m more forgiving with things like that make our home a happy Summer home. Right now there is even a pair of goggles hanging on a bath hook.

Love all the sunshine!! And really, what makes some of these gorgeous rooms are the drapes! Bright, colorful and bold patterns! Neat ideas!

I have a question: what keeps the hanging beds from slamming into the wall/windows?

Do you happen to know the dimensions of that nook and the benches and table (just width of each?) My nook was so narrow and uncomfortable we took the table and benches out and made it a pantry…. THIS I could see in there though when we redo the kicthen (we did take the carpet out at least!) (it’s an 80 year + old house and the kitchen dimensions are not comforming to today’s size of everything…
