Hold On To Your Mullets, It’s Almost Fall, Y’all! {Seasonal Decorating}

BHG Fall Decorating

You know that joke that you still chuckle about even though the joke was over long ago? And maybe it was only funny to you in the first place? That is the recurring nightmare of this post I’m about to link to. Every year for three years I’ve subjected you to it. I’m sorry. But I’m not really. Maybe you are new here and didn’t get to laugh about it the first time.

It is my public duty to share with you a little thought provoking post about seasonal decorating, that got a little off track. It still makes me chuckle a bit, but still. I like the topic of the post so I’m linking to it. Again. It’s becoming a random fall tradition to reflect on it.

Here it is: The one in which I compare seasonal decor to mullets.

And now for our regularly scheduled post…

. . . .

love Fall. But it is the last day of August. So what’s a girl to do? I start thinking about Fall. I start planning. October is my HUGE Fall Nesting month (and the big FALL NESTING PARTIES!), but that doesn’t mean I don’t start Fall-ifying my life WAY earlier than October. Like now.

I am sharing a post over at (in)courage today listing five things you could do to gear up for Fall.

5 things I’m going to do myself to get ready.

Want to know what they are? You can read the post over at (in)courage.

I’ll have lots of Fallish stuff do to around my house in September! I can’t wait! Are you excited for September too? I’m going to be on a MAJOR get the house cleaned up set up and organized kick, now that my kitchen is functioning and my floors are done. I have tons of stuff to put away and organize and yes, decorate! My Favorite!  For me, that is what September is all about. Getting ready to hunker down and enjoy October to the fullest!

October is such a great month, don’t you think?

I’m super excited about all my plans for September! I love setting up house and getting organized. I honestly feel like I just got a brand new house with my new floors and kitchen! Even though not everything is done or perfect and won’t be for FOREVER, it still feels so much better than it did. Trust me, my house still has PLENTY of work to be done, so the projects won’t end yet! I’ve got plenty in mind for September!! My pantry and bedroom, to name a couple of the biggies!

Have I mentioned that my kitchen will not be painted until OCTOBER? Gah, yes. But I guess that means October is going to be extra fun, too, right? And I’ve got plenty to keep me entertained in the next few weeks.

Happy last day of August, friends!
What are your plans for the weekend?

  3. Loved the mullet post. (: You really are creative – in thought and decorating! Love it and love fall. I always enjoy fall at the Inspired Room; your passion really shines through on that topic.

  4. Hi Melissa

I’m in a fall frame of mind as well, I started writing about designing with fall colors last week Friday. It’s so much fun. I’m starting to collect some things to begin my home fall decorating.

sad to say this is the last day of August…I really love the summer…but we have a major redo about to begin – ripping up the carpet and putting down new floors!!! – a board and batten project on the living room walls at the same time and new paint…I am very excited for it to start – but before that can happen we have to get through the weekend and our annual labour day bbq – 50 people for dinner – YAHOO!!!

  8. September is also a great month for people like me who love gardening. September is the month to get everything sorted outside – not forgetting – enjoying the last rays of the sunshine.

  9. It’s still in the 100’s out here in So Cal. so the thought of dead leaves makes me feels hot and dry. But, I really like your idea over at the guest post blog about adding little touches here and there. My kids have always been confused about the seasons in So Cal because it doesn’t always look like Summer, fall, winter, and spring when it should. So as long as I add apples, pumpkins, or pillows…then we can ease into it and before we know it it’s fall. We tend to get some T-clouds and humid whether in September and October. Do you have any good tips on table decorating without going into to much detail? I have little kids too so if there are any less elegant, yet simple ideas out there. We are a home schooling family so we are planning, cleaning, schedualing and nesting this weekend before we jump out of the lazy summer mode. We hope to make a beach trip one more time while the whethers still hot. Can’t wait to see all the neat ideas.

  10. We have no plans!! I know. Isn’t that wonderful. Yes, I could have made lots of plans, but weekend before all the busyness, it seems like a good idea. Sure I’ll probably spend some time in the yard, continuing to weed and make way for new gardens. But, I’m not going to put the pressure on myself. Then the fall schedule kicks off and I travel up to NY to help my friend get ready for her daughter’s outdoor wedding ceremony at a B&B and reception in the barn there. It should be lovely.
Hope your weekend is just what you ordered and truly Extraordinary.

P.S. I’m still digging my heels in. As much as I LOVE fall…I want to put it off for another month. Even if I do look out the window on two trees that have already started putting on a fiery orange show. (Yeah…way to early here in PA.)
