Cute 5 Minute DIY Memo Board {ditto DIY}

It’s time to show off the July {ditto} DIY challenge!

Happy Monday! It’s time for ditto DIY! Once a month, ten very different bloggers are hosting this challenge to recreate in our own homes a project or design element inspired by a haute couture design. The idea is to inspire everyone to incorporate fine design elements into your own home in a way that fits your own style. You can play along and do a project, and link it up to our ditto DIY party linky, below!

This month’s theme is Framed Fabric, and this was our inspiration photograph:

The {ditto} DIY Challenge:

Frame some Fabric! Any fabric, any way….then use it in a lovely display.

So, what did I do for my project? As of this weekend, I had no idea what I was going to do! Yes, I had a whole month to work on it. But  I literally have NO WALLS left in my house needing art or decor. And any place I might have been able to use something was not a wall I wanted to deal with right now. Plus, I have an aversion to making stuff I don’t actually need — I’m practical like that.

But at the eleventh hour, I realized I could make an easy to wipe off memo board/welcome sign for our front porch using a placemat I found for  $3.99 at Target and a frame. I could have used fabric but I didn’t happen to have what I wanted for this project.

I actually saw a placemat that looked almost identical to the ditto DIY inspiration pic, but I didn’t think it would make a good memo board since you wouldn’t be able to read the words as well. So, I went with a simple striped rubber/plastic/something placemat (from Target).

As usual, my projects require a high level of skill so make sure you are completely skilled and up for the BIG CHALLENGE if you want to make one of these for yourself.

Instructions: Trim the placemat a bit to make sure it will fit, then insert it into frame. The glass serves as a memo board you can write on with a chalk pen.

Done.

5 minutes or less.

Can you handle it?

And now comes the fun part! It is time to link up your own fabulous framed fabric projects and join the {ditto} DIY party! It wouldn’t be much of a party if you didn’t stick around, so be sure to check out as many projects as you can! Then be sure to visit Darlene’s site for a peek at next month’s challenge along with some expert design tips on incorporating framed fabric accents into your home.

This simple design DIY challenge will turn your trash into treasure. Design IS all about the details.

    Melissa, I always LOVE your diy projects because they are things that I can actually DO! LOL. This one is no exception. Tried clicking on your link to Darlene’s to see next months so that perhaps I can try, but I got a 404. Perhaps it is too early?

    Really cute idea. Easy to change out seasonally. You can also write on the glass with dry erase markers.

    What a lovely idea! And I love those colors! I would love to link up to this but my framed fabric has been complete for quite some time so I don’t have step by step photos of the process. Would that be breaking the rules?

    I saw that placemat too! Which then gave me a great idea for my own version of this project. Fun memo board! I’ll be linking up later. :)
