Easing Into Autumn

Hi friends! Michaela here for my monthly (well, since I’ve moved it’s been sparse!) post at TIR. I certainly can’t believe it’s Fall already. Where did the summer go? As you may remember from my last post, I just moved from California to Michigan, so summer here was quite different (read: humid) than what I’m used to ;). To usher in fall, my very favorite season, I’m taking it slow and easing my way in with a few simple touches around my home.

Easing Into Autumn

1. Mums on my patio! Living in an apartment, it’s key to have a few colorful flowers on your deck (if you have one.) It adds so much life to the place! I found a little vintage stool at a thrift shop and placed one of my two plants in a metal basket for a bit of added texture.

2. If you’re sad to see to see summer go like I am, bid it farewell by sipping on your favorite iced tea with some yummy end-of-summer fruits in the ice cubes. This totally spices up any party you may host, because people always remember the unique details.

I used oranges and blueberries in mine. Freeze them, then add to water, lemonade or iced tea. It’s great in all three!

3. Write up your favorite fall quote on a chalkboard, or print one out to frame for a gallery wall. Inspiration comes in many forms, and walking by a cute and encouraging quote about the new season, may just help you ease into autumn as well.

What are you doing to ease your way into the new season?!

I want to come and have some ice tea at your place. That glass with the beautiful straw and fruited ice looks awesome.
Fall in Florida is hardly different than any other season. I envy your season change in Michigan. I’m easing into fall with several little vignettes around the house featuring fall colors and pumpkins. I love pumpkins!

I think I’m going to look for a little stool like you found!

I’m so jealous! It’s still too hot to think of pumpkins, apples or anything fallish here in DFW – it was 101 yesterday – a new record high! We are supposed to finally get a break this weekend, with highs in the 70s and 80s – YAY!

In Houston it’s still in the 90’s and “fall” doesn’t really exist. Well, weather-wise at least. Once the temperatures get down into the 80’s I’ll probably put some pumpkins on my front steps and maybe hang a few ghosts in the trees :) Love to watch you adjust to life in Michigan! I know how hard it is to live in a place where the climate isn’t your favorite. I’m glad to see you’re making the best of it.

Thanks everyone! It was so fun to come up with these few little ways to welcome fall. I can’t believe how hot it is in other parts of the country still! My brother lives in Texas and has told me how warm it is still! Craziness :) Thanks for having me, Melissa! xo

Where in Michigan do you live? I live in the central western area of the lower peninsula and it was a beautiful summer of mostly 70s and a few 80s I loved it. I’m not for really hot weather or really cold either now that I think about it. Autumn is my favorite season to decorate but I’m in no rush, because once I put fall things out they stay til after Thanksgiving. I so agree about needing flowers on a deck if you live in an apartment. By the way WELCOME TO MICHIGAN AND ALL ITS SEASONS,
