Fall Nights by the Fire {Day 5: Loving Fall}

One of my favorite things in the fall is sitting by the fire in the evenings. You may have seen this photo when I shared it the other night on my Facebook and Instagram, but in case you missed it, :) sitting right here in this spot getting all cozy really is one of my favorite fall rituals.

Fall Nights by the Fire {Day 5: Loving Fall}

I turn on the lamps, shut off the bright overhead lights, and curl up on the sofa or a chair to read, write, or just chat with whoever is around. We don’t have a TV in this room so it is really quiet and peaceful. I look forward to the evenings so much in the fall!

Do you have a fireplace you can curl up by on a chilly fall evening (as soon as it is cool enough where you live!)? Even if you don’t have a fireplace, you can light a few candles and maybe start a new fall evening ritual as a gift to yourself, relaxing by the flickering flames of a warm fire.

    Yes! We enjoy the ritual of the fireplace pretty much every day once the weather turns cool. My husband even grills right in it all season long. He just roasted a big bunch of red peppers over the fire this week. There’s nothing like the mesmerizing sight and crackling flames.

    It isn’t quite cold enough for me for a fire in the woodstove (plus it is surrounded with stuff still) but I do light candles plus I added a tiny string of lights to the dining room window sill. I am searching for a light “curtain” with hanging starts that I saw in a photo. No luck yet.

    This looks like such a lovely and cozy place to curl up on a cool autumn evening! I agree, it’s one of my favorite parts about fall. Although I love how the summer brings people out of their homes and onto the streets to interact and pass their days together. There is something special about after a busy summer of running here and there, visiting with this and that person. It just pulls on my heart string!

    Happy Friday. Hope you have a great and relaxing weekend!

    Ahh to have a fireplace in the center of a room! Our current fireplace is located in the corner of a rectangular room with windows and french doors to the right of it. I have tried every configuration I can think of for the living room furniture and the way it is currently we pretty much can’t sit in front of the fireplace. I would love to hear your tips on how to deal with this. Way in the future plans are to knock it out and place it in the center of the wall with a stone surround, but for now it is what it is! Love your blog. Currently in Park City, UT but I grew up in Anacortes, WA and your blog always takes me back to NW living:)

    I love that shot of your living room so cozy and peaceful. I bought a electric fireplace which I absolutely love, since I live in a attached house a real fireplace is not a option. Since getting it I Love when it starts to get cooler, my dogs Lola and Daisy love to take naps in front of it, it gives off a great deal of heat. Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year without a doubt. Have a great weekend. Going back to you article in BH&G. :)

    We do have a fireplace…looking forward to cooler days….the best fire to sit by is at the cabin…we have a wood burning stove and there is nothing like the warmth it gives off. Taking by grand-kids there in a week…Happy Day. Thanks for sharing

    Melissa, What a lovely fireplace you have! I too love to curl up with a good book and the fireplace going in the fall and winter…candles burning too, of course! Today was a good day to settle in with the dark clouds and drizzle. Happy Friday!

    actually, yes! No fireplace but I light candles when i get home from work (epecially now that it’s fall and it gets darker earlier and I’ve purposefully purchased fall-smelling candles!) By the time Ethan gets home, if he’s lucky dinner is ready and the candles are on and it’s just a nice thing to come home to. This doesn’t happen every single day. But I try, and it sure does feel nice :)

      Good for you Angelika!! Keep the home fires burning in every way you can :-). It’s amazing how even just a few lit candles can transform your evening!

    How beautiful, I was going to ask about the paint colour, but I see you’ve already replied to that question. I love the colour and its name.

    Our tiny family room in Germany has no fireplace. I hope you don’t mind that I stop by your room and daydream about having a fireplace of my own ;-)
    Your home is so lovely, and I really love the cozy factor.

    I LOVE fireplaces, but we don’t have one at our current home. Hopefully one day we can get one of those ones that looks like a fireplace, but it really a heater.

    I was wondering where your tufted coffe table was from, and the size. Thank you!

    That is a cozy spot, indeed! There is something about the glow of a flickering flame, whether from a fire place or from candles that creates such a welcoming ambiance in the dusk and evening hours. Our winter and autumn was so mild last year, that the wood pile stacked in a basket beside the fireplace was never touched, not even once, despite living in an alpine area! We’ll see if candles in a soot-free hearth will replace logs again this winter. ;-)
