A House with Warmth and Character

I stumbled upon this home designed by Robert Stilin and thought it was so lovely, I knew you’d enjoy seeing it. The article about the home on House Beautiful says its “striking details used with restraint give this house warmth and character.” I think that sums up what drew me to it! See if you agree!

Enjoy!

This house is wonderful! We are moving next week and these photos are inspiring. Do you know if this is also featured in their magazine?

    Thank you for sharing!

Gorgeous! It has such a pretty balance of style and pretty details with lots of cozy little touches that make me want to grab a book and plop on the couch. Thanks for sharing!

I didn’t find it comfortable at all. It seems stark and somewhat sterile. It isn’t a place I’d feel comfortable in. Nothing plush, thin and flat striped rugs and upholstery, neutrals, even the bowl that is slightly skewed on the shelf looks staged, precision, regimented. It’s amazing how we can see the same room and get such a different feel. The only redeeming quality of it was the flowers, which there were way too many of. One bunch, or two, would be exciting, but in practically every room, they became required.

Yes, it’s interesting how people pick up on different things. I especially loved all the architectural details like the built in window seats, wood walls, french doors, and paned windows!

I love that it is such a livable house. Wouldn’t guests feel comfortable?

Did I spy striped wall-to-wall carpet in that first photo? The striped stair runner + various area rugs were right up my alley, + I’m online shopping for said-same right now. Did I also spy roller shades in the room with the striped daybed? I’m pretty sure I did, + it looks as if they were hung from the bottom up, for privacy! Roller shades are a “thing” again, + I’m in.

Great observations! I do believe you are correct about the striped carpet. So cozy! And I love the runners too. I think the bottom up roller shades are cool, too! :)

Did the article identify what color white was used? If so, would you please share what it is? I am searching for the “just right white,” and this looks to be a top contender.
    Thanks.

Light and bright! I love the cozy window seat with the big happy pillows. I could sit and draw there for hours!
Still I think I want a little more color in the bathroom. Thanks for sharing. :)

Lots to admire here and a few things to question…I’m still trying to decide on the artwork in the dining room. You always find intriguing, classy homes.

This home really spoke to me. Thank you for sharing this lovely home with your followers. I am very impressed with the way the owner used the antiques in such a fresh way. I have some antique pieces that I can’t part with and this home has given me several ideas how to use them in a new and modern way.

Man, this home is absolutely stunning to me. It wreaks (probably not the right word) of somewhere you could arrive home at the end of a hard day, throw your bag or briefcase down on a sofa and relax in the living room with a nice glass of wine and let the day’s stress melt away. Love the baby blue wall color. I could make this place home!

A great decorating scheme is warm and inviting while still being stylish – a must for city dwellers! These photographs provide much needed inspiration for anyone who is decorating a new space. However, no matter how gorgeous these ideas are, it’s important to infuse your own personal style when decorating your own space.
