Hello! It’s Courtney here. Although I have a degree in interior design, it’s become clear to me over the years that what I really love is the concept of creating a home. Much more than the mix of colors, patterns, fabrics, textures, and shapes that make up a house…I just love everything that a home represents for those who enter it.

I get excited about creating a comfortable home, the kind that warmly embraces you back after a long day. I love creating a home that invites others in and makes them feel welcomed right at the front door. I love adding personal details that encourage conversation and help to represent those who live in it. I love creating a home that inspires, rejuvenates, and motivates. I love getting a home organized in such a way that life is less stressful and more efficient.

I love all the details, down to the scents and the sounds that fill up a home. I’m thankful for the memories attached to each place that I’ve lived in, and how each home served our needs during the time we spent there.

What are you most grateful for in your home?

The only thing that matters to me as that in my home, I am at home. Large or small, new or old, you have to know what you like, know what you love, and work to make your house the place you can be comfortable and happy every day.

I am grateful that over time, I have made our house a place that makes me happy to be home whenever I walk through the door.

I feel the same as you about creating a home vs “decorating or designing” a home. A home needs to feel right not just look good. It is oh, so,personal and that is what our homes are to is..personal. I always want my home to work for our family and to provide peace, tranquility and many feelings of gratitude for what we have been blessed. If it does that, can’t imagine that visitors wouldn’t feel the warmth and welcome upon entering. You are certainly your mother’s daughter, aren’t you? ???

I’ve discovered over the last year that what really makes me feel cozy and happy in my home is texture. I love the softness of blankets and sheepskin, i love the contrast of soft with wood or stone. Oh yes, there are certain colors I like too, and certain styles, but a room can have all the right colors and styles and still not feel right to me unless it’s layered and textured. So happy that I figured this out! Now I can look around my home and work in texture and contrast to fill in that missing element!

Yes! Texture is so important. It’s amazing how much of a difference it makes when you add in those layers!

Beautifully said, Courtney! I feel exactly the same when it comes to design and home. Gorgeous rooms are wonderful and I almost never tire of looking at them, but it’s the spaces that reflect the people who live in them that draw me in.

Beautiful! I feel like in so many ways, our homes tell the stories of who we are and invite others to do the same. I’m grateful for all the ways you all inspire me to make my home a beautiful place!

I am most grateful when we return home from vacation or a long day out and my husband and kids say “It’s great to be home!” Music to my ears. :)

Hi Courtney! You’re right, each home should welcome, inspire and motivate the ones that step into it, but at the same time I think each rom should reflect your own personality. And this could be done by finding the perfect mix between color, material, shape, texture. Rugs can help decorating a simple room and giving it the “personality” it needs. This is what we are trying to do with our lively felt ball rugs .They are all hand-made by 70+ lady artisans from Nepal that try to bring light and beauty in each home. You can have a look at their work here: http://feltballrug.com/
