Decorating Your House {Simply} Through the Seasons

I love decorating my house through the seasons. As you’ve probably gathered if you hang out here much, I don’t really use a lot of themed decor. But I do love making my house warm and cozy this time of year and then lighting things up for the spring and summer. It helps to have a neutral backdrop with the foundational items around the house, such as paint colors and rugs, so the accessories can be the transitional pieces. I definitely keep things simple year round, but it is fun to have the opportunity to mix things up a bit every season.

Most of the time I use what I have, pull in some seasonal greenery and move things around until I get a new look that just feels more seasonally appropriate and inspiring!

Let’s take a peek at my coffee station in my kitchen through several seasons! You’ll see how several of the items are repeated or styled in different ways through each season (such as cutting boards and the mug holder) and a few seasonal elements are brought in (such as different colored books, greenery or accessories I made or have for the season).

I truly do try to use what I have and don’t feel the need to buy all new holiday decor each year. You’ll see below that I used my simple DIY Peace Banner on the same shelf a couple of Christmases!

I’ll share other areas of my home dressed up for the different seasons in upcoming posts. Courtney and I have been working on something else kind of fun for you guys, too. Those of you who made it to the end of this post can get a sneak peek!

For years I’ve had an online shop for The Inspired Room, but over the past couple of months I’ve been getting it prettier and better organized. Because my shop of favorite furniture, lighting, and decor from my home was getting kind of full, we started creating smaller themed shops that should be easier to navigate. We are excited to finally be better organized! We had so much fun window shopping online at a variety of sources to round up collections of some of our favorite things. Check out our new shops here!

We’ve also started to create several helpful gift guides this year of my most favorite gifts for the season because if you are anything like me, sometimes you just want to shop online in your jammies and slippers :). Check out our first few gift guides here!

Happy shopping!

OH my goodness. We’ve been talking about the not complaining scripture this week. And serving without grumbling. Then when I read today’s Proverbs 31 devotion, I SO resonated with the “endless loop” comment. I sometimes feel like everyone takes advantage of the fact that I do the dishes, make the meals, etc…..every day and nobody really cares. But is this why I do this? Better get my thinking straight……….. Then I came over here to your blog and saw that you have a book called “Love the Home you Have” and almost fell off my chair. We’ve been trying to sell our home for 3 years now, mostly because I have a bum ankle and need to get off the stairs, of which we have many…………..but I have been feeling trapped here. I have been thinking of trying to rearrange things and unpack decorations and pictures and make it “home” again since we’re back off the market. I want this to be a place where we enjoy each other and life. Thanks for today’s devotion. I think I NEED your book!

I think it would be wonderful to see your new home with its holiday decor! Please show! So many of us live in homes that aren’t magazine-ready and I know I’d be inspired by your new house and how you dress up a house that’s not yet your style.

Oh you’ll see some holiday decor here this year. We haven’t had a holiday yet in our house so I don’t have a lot of seasons past to show, of course, but I’m excited to decorate this year though! Thank you for the encouragement, it’s so true that we should not wait until it’s all perfect to enjoy it! XO

I love the arrangement with the ‘gold’ tray the best.
I have what I grandly refer to as my Resources Cupboard in which I have several large boxes and in these are all kinds of inherited ornaments, boxes, and so forth, so that I can – should I wish to – change things around seasonally. I don’t always do this, much depends on the time I have for faffing around in the say, but I do like to change things occasionally.

I love changing my rooms for the season (especially our fireplace mantel). Love how you’ve done it with the simple coffee station – perfect! Although I enjoy seeing ALL your decorating!

Melissa, fist, just a note – I didn’t get this post in my email this morning – actually went looking for it. Now at the end of the day, it still hasn’t shown up. Don’t know it that’s significant on your end but I don’t want to miss a single post from you.

This section of your kitchen has been and is a constant inspiration to me because I have a somewhat similar wall in my kitchen. I have a corner sink with two windows and to the right of the sink is a bit of counter space over the dishwasher with a cabinet above (not quite as wide as yours) and then a patio door. I long ago removed the doors to the cabinet and it helped a tad but looking at your redo of that wall has convinced me that open shelving is the way to go and I love your seasonal variations. I’ll probably keep my coffee station (also inspired by you) between left of the sink and the stove because it works better for me but I’m looking forward to even more brightness and openness once that cabinet is gone and I suspect I’ll “feel” as though I’ve gained a lot more counter space. This is such fun!

I love your blog! I found it through Proverbs 31 Ministries devotional! Your home is beautiful and I love how you transform it from season to season. Believe it or not, I’ve been praying for something very specific and your devotional answered my prayer. THANK YOU!

I’m LOVING your book, Love the House You’re In, and thought I’d check out your site. I didn’t get far – I need to know about your espresso machine! I make one every day, and I think my machine is on its way out. I’m soon to be in the market for a new one, and if this one works as well as it looks I’d like to check it out! What is the model? (I apologize if you’ve posted this elsewhere on your site, but I’m just starting to look through it!)

I believe one of my very first visits and discovery of your inspirational blog was when you posted one those seasonal pics of your coffee station. I was hooked after that. I just knew that someone who loved her home and the whole process of keeping a home would be a kindred spirit! A coffee station lovingly decorsted for every season just screams HOME & Hospitality to me!! I’ve been conning back every day since. ❤️

I definitely like to decorate for the seasons and holidays subtly… I’m not one of those people that likes to go all out with the seasonal decor. Although I can see the appeal, because it does seem kinda fun! :)

Went to your gift guides — nice new organization! BUT — could not get anything but a blank page when I clicked on individual items. However, I just upgraded to Windows 10 so I don’t know if it is that or your website. Just wanted to let you know so you can check your end. THanks
