If you want to transform the personality of a room, changing out the lighting is a fun and affordable way to do it!

Why settle for builder boring when you can express your own unique style? Lighting can create a stand out statement for every room. I love updating lighting with a fun new shape, color, or style!

Last week my daughter Courtney and I ventured out to Ferguson Bath, Kitchen, & Lighting Gallery in Seattle to see what’s new in lighting. We found some great styles and options that were right on trend but that would also be a timeless choice for any home.

Ferguson showrooms have a wide variety of lighting options to choose from. Picking out lighting can be an overwhelming process, but Ferguson has very helpful certified lighting specialists in the showroom available for questions or assistance.

Here are four lighting trends we are particularly loving right now:

We changed out lighting fixtures when we moved in 14 years ago! I’ve been thinking of making some changes, but with two weddings this year, that will have to wait for a bit. Which is okay with me since I’m not certain what I want yet.

We are building a new home ( should be completed by mid- Februsry 2016) and have had a blast shopping and buying all our light fixtures. We’ve got lanterns and spheres and many unique transitional industrial classic ( my term. Ha!) fixtures for our home. Why go boring, when you can add so much personality and mood to a room with cool lighting?!? ?

Love the look of many of these choices. Then I started looking at them and the prices shocked me. Not a usable list for me.

Timely post since that’s what I’m working on (at least mentally) for my kitchen update. I have a very busy ceiling in my 14×10 u-shaped kitchen with small breakfast area. Currently there are two 2×4′ fluorescent lighting fixtures, a solar tube/light tunnel crowded ceiling, a 15″ air vent and a small ceiling fan (all from 1986) in the center of the kitchen/breakfast area, a senior retired widow, that’s all there is budget, and a total distaste for pot lights. The fluorescents are definitely going and the small ceiling fan will be changed out but everything else stays so I have a challenge. Do have a dark-framed patio door and painted-over dark frames on the windows over the corner sink, and oil-rubbed bronze pendants and the industrial style seem quite fitting for my home style. I’ve followed your choices in lighting and will be watching your choices for the new home. I regularly get notices from Barnyard Electric and others so I’ll add Ferguson to my list.

Sandy, though overhead lighting is needed as well, the best part of my total kitchen remodel was the undercabinet lighting. I highly recommend it and would never be without it again!

I love all those gorgeous lights! We recently updated our kitchen and went with an exposed lantern similar to #4 above. Love the look – and the fact I don’t have to clean glass!

Installed a new light fixture in the laundry room last month. Removed the horrid 1990’s 4 ft long 4 tube florescent ceiling light and hung a burlap drum 3 light dining table fixture. Looks fantastic and makes me want to do laundry!!!

Melissa, the last light fixture we replaced was in the family room earlier this year. The next will be in the bedroom this month or next when we redecorate it.

Love your lighting selections — especially all of the gold choices! Ferguson is great — when I was working as a full-service interior designer, I always enjoyed bringing my clients there or working with the specialists in the showroom. And the showrooms are beautiful too, aren’t they?

I am obsessed with lanterns! I especially love the Moravian star. My son’s room has a geometric/minimalist/space vibe as far as decor goes. I would LOVE to add that moravian star lantern above the reading corner!!!

I’m loving the exposed lighting look and the geometric ones are so classy!! Both lighting fixtures are great for Modern Homes. Right now, I’m a huge fan of warm metals for lighting fixtures, especially the rose gold ones and I’ve seen the deconstructed lighting trends which have a great rustic charm to them.
