On the Hunt for a Dining Banquette {Gather}

1 // 2 // 3 // 4 // 5 // 6 // 7

I‘ve been looking around for a charming free-standing bench, sofa or banquette to fit under the window next to my dining room table. In my dreams I will find the perfect piece so I could have it delivered to my house this week. Once I get a ‘bee in my bonnet’ I get kind of impatient, ha!

The reality might be that it will have to be custom to fit just right under the window and at the table, but I’m holding out hope that I’ll find one that is less fuss and ready to go. The sofas, benches or settees I’ve tried with tables in the past usually have too low of a seat height, or the back of the settee/sofa is too angled to fit snuggly against a wall. It isn’t always easy to find just the right thing.

We did find a few great options online to share today, even if they don’t work for us, because I know some of you might be looking for something similar now or down the road! Many of these particular choices come in different colors and even different sizes, which is nice. And…#4 and #5 are have storage underneath the bench!

UPDATE 2021: I got this banquette bench! You can see it in my dining room HERE.

Happy Monday!

    I hope you find exactly what you’re looking for!!
    And … I just have to say that
    I love the word “settee!”
    It reminds me of my great grandmother, antiquity
    and a slower, gentler time in the world.
    Thanks for sharing your home-loving-journey with us!

    Love your inspiration settees! I’m especially partial to #2 as it looks much like ( in color) as your beautiful, leather love seat and #6 because it has a nice coastal, casual vibe and has storage! Enjoy the hunt. Looks like you’ve made a good start & hope you find exacly what you’re looking for. ❤️

    Seems to me all the banquets that you posted, except the corner one, are for a square or rectangle table, and not for a round table. If you want to put the bench in front of the window, do you plan to change the table as well?

    Love banquettes, I designed one for a client for a small space. CRate & Barrel has a slipcovered one tha that looks great and would be practical

      Can you please share the link? Would love one with a slipcover! Thanks.

    We had the one from Ballard Designs (#7) in a former house and loved it. It looks built-in and can be reconfigured differently as needs change. If I had to do it again, I’d get it in an indoor/outdoor fabric. Banquettes seem to attract stains more than chairs, possibly because you can’t scoot the seat completely under the table as you can with chairs and more surface is exposed. At least that’s what I want to believe; it can’t possibly be that we’re messy. The choice of table becomes important, too. The ones with a center post or trestle are most easily navigated when getting in and out, and the size of the table top should allow everyone to reach the table comfortably when seated. Have fun choosing!

    I’m searching for the “perfect” banquette/setter also… I am pretty close to having one built so that I can be sure it fits the space I have vs. trying to make the space accept the banquette. I saw this article in my search ..it gives some good ideas for dimensions and such…look on houzz : ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2693

    A banquette with storage is always a plus. I had one in my kitchen and it proved invaluable with the things that were stored there during the years. Also, the fabric of a dining banquette is key as it needs to be easy to clean, better yet if it comes with a removable cover.
