My office in my last home
Right now my house feels a bit disorganized, like I’m moving in to my house all over again. Ugh :) It’s not quite that bad (thank goodness) but we have been hauling a lot of furniture and boxes down the stairs and making a big mess of our basement, so I’m definitely having a few flashbacks of moving.

The mess is all for a good reason, though. Besides the kitchen being unsettled and getting ready for the remodel, I decided to swap locations of my office and the guest room. The re-purposing of those spaces is what set off some recent chaos. Sometimes creating a little chaos first is necessary, though, to get a home or room organized in the most efficient way.
The new office space will make much more sense for my needs and we’ll get a guest room as a part of the switch, so I think overall it will be a win-win! I’ll share more design plans and progress in those spaces, soon.
My guest room in my last home
I’m really on a mission to get this house set up in the most efficient way. I feel like I have been making slow progress, but at the same time I think we’ll be moving faster on our design updates and remodeling than in any other house we’ve lived in because we are so determined to get settled and organized as quickly as possible.
It’s going to feel great to feel more on top of things in this house. The sense of being more settled and organized is what I miss the most about my old home, hands down!
I am so excited to see this home come to life. Sometimes the visual picture in my mind (or on my inspiration board) of what the finished and organized space will look like when I’m done is what motivates me to press through the mess. Well, that and dreaming about all the cute organizers I will use to corral everything I need in each room :).
Happy Friday!
You’ll find some of my favorite organizing supplies here in my new home organization shop!
Yep, sometime you have to create a mess while changing things up – it helps to remind ourselves that its only temporary and it’s going to be great when we are done!
So excited to see everything that’s going on at your home.
Thanks, Deanna! Messes can lead to great things, as long as we keep moving forward, right? :)
I agree with you totally.
If the current office location is closer to the entry hall as in your floorplan sketch, I think it does make great sense to switch rooms. That way, when you do have guests, they will be closer to the shared master bath and not have to troop down the hallway past your office and you’ll have more privacy too. Sounds as though Luke is already enjoying his kingdom downstairs. A second bath on the first floor would be great eventually but it so smart of you to take your time to come up with ideas, let them wander around in your brain for a while you do other things, and then see what wanders out. No major mistakes and expenses that way and the patience you practice in the process always seems rewarded. You are soooo good, Melissa, about practicing what you preach.
We have been really happy so far with taking our time to come up with our plans! I’ll update soon with how we decided to use our space, it’s pretty different than some of our options along the way but we are feeling pretty comfortable with it so far. I think we are on a good path (one that we can easily veer off from down the road if we decide to switch rooms around again, ha!). Thanks, Sandy!
My house always feels disorganized. I am so ready to get settled!

It’s a good feeling! <3
Melissa – I love the turquoise and white striped rugs you have in your previous home. Do you remember where you purchased them?
Thanks!
Mary
Your curtains are beautiful, I hope you get to use them again in your new home. I love how they look against that navy wall. I’m sure your new office space will be just as serene and organized as your last one soon enough. I’m picturing you settling into your chair with a warm cup of coffee from your nearby Nespresso machine (if you decide to still have it there) and writing that post on how it has finally all come together. You’re picturing it too, I can tell. ;-).
I am in love with the curtains you had hanging in your old office! Would you mind sharing where you got them? Thanks so much and best of luck getting settled in your new home!
I know how you feel. My house is in flux getting ready for our baby! I looked through your shop and loved every. single. basket. I have just a week left to find out the gender of our baby and then I get to really plan out the spaces and organization! Love the store!
Thanks, Rachel! How exciting to find out the gender of your little bundle of JOY in a week!! Such a fun season of life. Enjoy getting ready for your ittle one! xo
Love these ideas!! I’m motivated!!
