Swedish Style Dressers {Gather}

In a post earlier today I showed that we moved a dresser from our bedroom to our living room (check out that post here if you missed it). As promised this morning, I’m here again this afternoon (a rare double post day!) to offer you additional sources for similar dressers.

You might remember the vintage dresser I had in my old house, above. I love that dresser! It has a similar style of medallion pulls to my new one. I still have the other dresser, you’ll probably see it in my office or another part of my house down the road. (You can also tour our old house here and see it in my coffee table book here. Paint colors for the room featured above can be found here.)

I know many of you are in the market for dressers like I was. If you like this style, these dressers are often labeled as Swedish style dressers or Gustavian style. Whatever they are called or whether they are reproductions, authentic or not, I just love the general look, shape and style so you’ll find similar looks in this round up.

Of course, you can always try to find the look of a Swedish style dresser second hand. I found the dresser (featured in my old entry, above) at a vintage store for a steal. If you want to scour Craigslist or local antique stores for deals, you can sometimes find vintage dressers available. Or, you can paint and change pulls to update the look of any dresser you already have.

But if you are in a hurry or don’t find the Swedish style dresser of your dreams locally, today’s Gather post will offer you some online sources for dressers I really like! Enjoy!

    I’m just wondering why it’s call Swedish style as it looks to me to be Federal style. What is the difference?

    My dad was Swedish… very! That explains why we had a number of furniture pieces that looked like your entry piece when I was growing up. ;)

      I love all of your examples — and I do happen to have Swedish and Norwegian in my heritage! Every piece of furniture in our bedroom is old and battered and well-loved. Now, if I painted them soft white and changed the pulls…sounds like a lot of work, but how pretty it would be against our knotty pine walls…hmmm…

        Sorry, that wasn’t meant to be a reply to Diane, just a general comment.

    I loved hearing from you twice in a day!

      Aw thanks! You are the sweetest. I always fear I’ll annoy people if I pop back on, but sometimes I just have a lot to say, ha ha :)

    I too love hearing from you twice a day, Melissa, and I, too, love dressers as well as Shaker-style side tables and wish I had more room for both. But mostly, I relate to your experience of buying something for one space and then getting that “out of the box” inspiration and moving it somewhere else and using it in some unexpected way. In fact, I don’t even have a dresser in the master bedroom but instead a TV cabinet that looks like a pretty piece of furniture because it was from a pretty bedroom suite but I used it in the living room while I was at the condo. The swivel top holds the TV and the open area underneath holds the VCR and other equipment, the two small drawers hold favorite movies on the left and undies on the right and the big drawer holds PJs and other sleep stuff. Don’t think the personals were necessarily meant to be stored there but at least I don’t have to walk as far as your hubs. It’s fun. And I never mind getting another post from you. It’s like chatting with a friend: , I just found…” or “I forget to tell you…” Quite nice!

    I LOVE that entryway!

    Can I trouble you for the wall paint color?
