Kitchen Remodel Update: Faucet and Farmhouse Sink Sources! My last kitchen in BHG

Happy Friday! I think the last time you saw my kitchen was a peek at the arches. Then I told you about the surprise feature, the round window which should have been installed awhile back. But it wouldn’t be a project at my house without some sort of mishap (or two or three) in the process, now would it? :)

So, apparently the window (somehow) went missing in transit? I CAN’T EVEN make this stuff up. Now that it has finally been found (in Portland? I don’t know how or why, I couldn’t bring myself to ask) I have been told that it is going to be installed today. Do we get our hopes up? No.

Believe it or not there is not a single new thing to show you IN the kitchen. No visible progress. It’s true. But on the bright side, more decisions have been made, pretty things have been purchased, windows have been located, disasters have been averted, paint colors have been determined, and a change was made for the better and drawings are complete.

However, I do believe that if in fact the window goes in today, that by next week the drywall will be completed so they can begin installation of our ceiling and flooring, cabinets and counters and backsplash and of course, the DUTCH DOOR.

While there is a lack of pretty things to show you IN the kitchen, there are pretty things in boxes ON THE FLOOR. So even though they are still in boxes, today I want to show you my final choices for our new faucet and sink.

It actually took me forever to decide what faucet to buy. Next to our backsplash, it was one of my most challenging decisions. I knew I wanted a farmhouse style sink, but I really wasn’t sure at all what style or finish of faucet I wanted. I went around and around. Modern? Traditional? Brass? Nickel? Chrome? Bridge style?

Heritage Kitchen Faucet by Kingston Brass with Brass Sprayer, 8-3/4-Inch in Vintage Brass

I finally just ordered every potential faucet on the market so I could look at them in person. You’ll see all of the faucets and sources I considered below in this post. While every single one was a lovely option, in the end I decided that the one that best fit my vision and coordinated beautifully with other elements in my kitchen was this beauty. And best of all, it was like $1300 less than my second favorite! DEAL!

I love the antique brass finish, the solid weight and size, the old-world style and that it has a separate sprayer (which we also like and prefer). I’m so excited to see it on our farmhouse sink!

Our new faucet is very similar to this one that was in my old house

You’ll remember we had an undermount farmhouse sink in our old house. I loved that sink so we ordered it again, but this time an even bigger model (IF YOU CAN BELIEVE IT!). Small white kitchen, big white sink. I actually didn’t feel like my other sink was too small, we just had the extra space already available for a bigger sink and cabinet this time. Last time we had to fit our sink into an existing cabinet.

As far as my farmhouse sink, this sink below by Kohler is the exact one we have for our new kitchen. If you saw my farmhouse sink post awhile back, I shared some additional sources and inspiration for farmhouse sinks.

So what’s next to share about my kitchen plans? Hmmm….there are still quite a few things you don’t know or haven’t seen yet. What are you most curious about? What do you really want to know? Share in a comment! All will be revealed in time, of course :).

While in some ways I consider Ikea to be the fast fashion of interiors, in other ways it does provide some well-styled basics at affordable prices. The Glittran faucet is very similar to the ones here and costs only $119. And the Domsjö farm sink runs from $105 to $312.
We bought both and are really happy with the looks. Plus the Glittran knob is fabulous in a kitchen because you can turn it on and adjust the temp without using your hands (for example, when they’re covered with something sticky)–you can do it with your wrist. No sprayer though.

“Install the ceiling?” Planked maybe? ;)

I love the farmhouse sink by Kohler. We are beginning our research into remodeling our 1800’s farmhouse kitchen and hope to install that very sink.

  4. Becky

Everyday I open your blog in anticipation of seeing the progress. Love these posts. The faucet is gorgeous and I love your sink! But I’ve been waiting all summer and fall to see your side yard transformation. did something happen? On pins and needles.

  5. Sara

Are there going to be beams on the ceiling?? :)

  6. Diane @ An Extraordinary Day

Oh the the pain of waiting!! I’m the worst at that. Glad you could use the time for decision making. ;) Your new faucet is lovely! Though after have a single lever, how did you decide to go with two levers? (Is that what they’re called???) Anyway… we went from a single lever to doubles in our bath and. well. I now know which I prefer. (Single.) I’d love to hear your thoughts. My fingers are crossed for the window to arrive and be installed today. Maybe a quick photo tomorrow???? Sending lots of hugs your way.

  7. Tracie

Love your choice of faucet. Now I’m waiting to see the cabinet hardware. Besides the backsplash, I thought that was a difficult choice because of all the options.

I hope your window goes in today!

  8. Melinda Young

Pretty! Such beautiful choices!! I am getting excited for you!! Next, hmmm maybe hardware? Paint colors? Appliances? Oh the suspense! How exciting!!

  9. Jo Jo

I am anxiously awaiting to see the complete reveal! I am so very excited for you as you are finally able to get the heart of your home done! I can’t wait to see all your finishing touches as well! If I’m about to burst with anticipation….how much more are YOU, sweet Melissa?!? ? Hope your circular window can be installed tomorrow and sheet rocking, etc can commence.

  10. Tracie

This is going to be so lovely. I am excited for the reveal, but also all the sneak peeks along the way.

  11. Pam

so excited for you! can’t wait to see it pulled together. I’m waiting to see what counters you pick and which edge

  12. Maggie

So sorry about the window mishap! The pain in waiting for sure! Well it sounds like with the delay all is moving in the right direction!!! Just like the Cubs.. Ha ha the rain delay helped win the game! I know it will be stunning! I can’t wait to see it all go in!! Have a great weekend Melissa.

  13. Beth

Love to see the progress of your projects as they progress! I’d love an update on the office. I don’t think we ever saw the full reveal?

  14. Debby

Hmmm, will the new cabinet hardware also be antique brass? And I’m thinking planked ceiling–either white-painted shiplap or natural wood planks–depending on the floor you choose! Can’t wait to see more. How about a picture of the pups looking out (and framed by) the new round window? There’s an Instagram moment for you!

  15. Richella Parham

Your faucet is beautiful and will look wonderful with that sink. I am really looking forward to seeing that round window installed, and I can’t wait to see the millwork around your arches–if there will be any. It’s a challenge to make things work well with the style of home you have, isn’t it? Every house is different. Thanks for sharing your consistent love for the home you have!

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Yeah, it is a lot trickier to remodel to suit your style than it would be to build a new house! But the challenge is part of the fun, I think :) Thanks for stopping by Richella, it’s fun to share the adventures.

  16. Deanna Rabe

I recently had an on going issue with an online order I made, so I feel your pain! It’s all going to be delightful and I am so happy for you. I love that you share the good, the bad and the crazy with us! Real life!

Can’t wait to see it all finished!

  17. Christi

I can’t imagine the frustration. I am laughing, though, at the crazy things that keep happening with the upgrades to your home. I know everything will be warm and cozy and quite lovely in time. I love makeovers and I’m so thankful you share the details!

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Thank you, Christi! You just have to laugh. I’m glad you enjoy the details, too!

  18. Judy

Hi Melissa. I have a question about the white farmhouse sink. Is it easy to keep clean? Do dishes or pans leave marks? Do you have to bleach it? Is there anything that I should know beyond that? I have never had a sink like that but have always wanted one. My kitchen needs a remodel so I am collecting information. Thanks so much! Judy

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Hi Judy! I’ve had a Kohler (like what is shown here) in two houses and it was easy to clean. Definitely consider the brand as I’ve heard some sinks might not be the same quality or material. I use a product like Bar Keepers Friend to polish it up if it ever got grungy so it always looked great! It can get marks on it but they usually buff right out.

      • Judy

        Thanks Melissa!

      • allison

Melissa- To go along with that, You mentioned in an earlier post that you preferred a Cast Iron sink to a fire clay one- Can I ask why? I am just about to purchase a clay fired one for our upcoming kitchen remodel, but haven’t heard/read anything on why to choose cast iron over clay fired?

        • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Fireclay is supposed to be very strong. I’m sure it will be great. The fireclay sink I had one time just seemed harder to clean so to be safe the next time (and this time) I decided to stick with Kohler’s cast iron. I’ve had all good experiences with them so far.

  19. Brian

Melissa! Can’t wait to see this project done. Your choices of faucet are lovely. This is going to be a very wonderful kitchen. Looking forward to see more updates. :)

  20. Linda P.

Such creative thought is going into every detail of your remade kitchen. I love them all! Now that we have these things revealed, I do want more:) Thank you for asking what we want to see. I am EAGER to see your cabinets–their style, placement, and color! I have loved your other kitchens, so I am interested to see what fits with this one. I’m not doing my kitchen, but you sharing your thought process on Your kitchen is helping me think through my window treatment update on my 1960s house. So Thanks!
