Gift Ideas for Any Home or Hostess

This post is sponsored by Ross Dress for Less

Have you completed your Christmas shopping? I’ve been “wrapping up” my Christmas gift shopping over the past week, but I still have a few gifts left on my list. We have so many events to go to this month, it will feel great to have our shopping and gifts all set to go so we are ready to relax and enjoy time with family and friends.

For the past several months I’ve partnered with Ross Dress for Less here on the blog to put together affordable ways to decorate and celebrate. Since we have just a few weeks left before Christmas, I thought I might save some of you last minute shopping stress by offering you three fun gift ideas I put together for any home or hostess! At Ross you can save 20%-60% on the same brands carried in department stores, so it really is a perfect place to pick up affordable gifts.

Gift Ideas for Any Home or Hostess

1. Stuff A Stocking

While we know to hang our stockings by the chimney to receive gifts on Christmas Eve, why not try a twist this year and fill an adorable stocking with gifts and give it away?  I found knit Christmas stockings at my last trip to Ross that I thought would make charming packaging for an assortment of gifts.

Wouldn’t a stocking make a darling presentation at a holiday party as a hostess gift? Fill the stocking with small affordable items a hostess might love such as glass votives, cheese spreaders, wine charms, cocktail napkins, or coasters. The recipient of your stocking gift bag will not only enjoy the gifts inside but can use the stocking for Christmas decor in their home, too.

2. Give Great Gizmos and Gadgets

It’s fun to receive a gift you didn’t even know you wanted! Surprise your friends by shopping for a new gadget you think they will love, such as a kitchen grill or popcorn popper, a garlic press or oil sprayer for the gourmet. When I was at Ross recently, I found a cool immersion blender to put under our tree this year. It would be a welcome gift for anyone who loves to cook or is setting up a new kitchen, too. You can use this blender to mix up soups, smoothies, dips and more. To personalize a kitchen gift like a blender, you could add a cute hand-written recipe card to share your favorite soup or dip.

3. Create a Crate

A creative container makes a charming way to package up a gift of special treats and surprises for everyone on your list. Select a reasonably sized box, basket, crate, bag or bowl and use a filler (tissue paper, fabric, newspaper, shredded paper) at the bottom so the gifts will fill the container. I love this charming crate because it’s a gift that will keep on giving. After Christmas, the crate would be adorable sitting on a kitchen counter to hold napkins or utensils.  This gift is easy to make personal, so it will really show that you put together a special gift just for them.

As you are shopping for what to put in your creative container, think about a selection of items your recipient would like. You can pull together gifts with a certain theme, but you don’t have to be strict about it!

Consider these themed ideas for a gift crate:

a mix of gourmet food products
luxurious bath and spa items
coffee or tea lovers mugs and treats

kitchen tools
baking kit
gardening supplies
arts and crafts supplies
a new homeowner’s kit
Christmas basket of treats and decor

What other fun and affordable gift ideas are you giving this year?

    Wow!

Who would have ever thought of a fabulous stocking stuffed with goodies as the best hostess gift ever!

    Love this, Melissa!

The are great ideas–some are standards, but with a twist. And you used a nice collection of items for examples. This will be a good reference next year. And the next…

I just started thinking of that yesterday and my list so far for hostess gifts has one idea and that is gourmet popcorn. One of our daughters put some in our stockings last year and it was wonderful.

Love the stuffed Christmas stocking hostess gift idea! I usually make a peppermint almond bark and English toffee bark to give as hostess gifts in a pretty Christmas tin, usually found at the dollar store or Marshal’s, but zillion be looking at Ross because there is one located not too far from my home! Thanks for the inspiration!

Fabulous hostess gift ideas! This year I’m giving a sweet childrens’ book I illustrated “Curly the Llama”. The story is about a llama too small to do normal llama jobs, but finds his niche. The high point is when his sheep get invited to participate in a live nativity and he joins them to keep them calm and represent his relatives the camel. Email me, I’d love to send you a copy for all the books and blogs you have written for us.
