7 Ways to Transform Your Bedroom on a BudgetCountry Living

Happy Monday, friends! I’ve always heard that many people save decorating their bedroom until after other rooms are more “presentable.” Why is that? I’m sure there are many reasons. I know I’ve saved our bedroom for last, too, in some of my past homes.

Finances can play a big part in slowing down “bedroom decorating momentum.” If you have a whole house to work on or other financial priorities, it makes sense that you’d feel like you should wait to decorate your bedroom. If you’re choosing between living room furniture and bedroom pieces, it might feel more important to have the right furnishings and accessories in rooms family and friends will enjoy. Sometimes we just feel paralyzed by the options! We are likely only going to have one bed, so it really can be a challenge to narrow it down and commit. And if you add a spouse’s preferences to the mix, you’ve got two opinions to take into account!

Even though there are many reasons why we might put off designing our bedroom, there are certainly many good reasons to make this space a bigger priority. I actually think a master bedroom might be one of the most important rooms in a house. It certainly is an important room to try to get “right.” It’s a room where you need to be able to feel relaxed and rejuvenated. That’s a tall order! Since you’ll be spending about 1/3 of your life in that room, there is a lot riding on the comfort and mood of the space.

Does your bedroom feel as inviting and comfortable as you wish it did?

Fortunately, an average sized master bedroom won’t need a ton of furniture or decor make it feel prettier, more complete and comfortable! Simple changes can make a big difference. Even if you’re on a limited budget, a bedroom can be a fun and rewarding room to design.

Besides the basics like paint or flooring, there are seven decor elements that can easily update the look and feel of a bedroom:

  1. Bed or headboard
  2. Accent pillows
  3. Nightstands
  4. Lighting
  5. Throw blankets
  6. Area rug
  7. Artwork

Assess which items you already have and which areas could use a little improvement.

In this post we pulled together inspiration and sources that might inspire you with simple ways to improve your bedroom. Even if your budget doesn’t allow you to redo your entire room right now, it’s OK to start small. In fact, it’s pretty awesome how a set of lamps or even a few throw pillows can change the look and feel of the entire room.

What were the wood blinds under the curtains please ?

Love all the sources your provide us! Could you share ideas on a ceiling fan that would look fabulous in a bedroom? A stylish one is so hard to find, and decide upon. They seem to be the ‘dirty little secret’ no one talks about, or crops out of the photo in so many gorgeous designs. And yet they are such a necessity for so many of us in our bedrooms and family room, but they never get talked about. Your great eye for design would be so appreciated!

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Oh yes, that would be helpful! Thanks for the post idea. I know many people need ceiling fans, we actually had one in our bedroom at our old house and loved having it to circulate the air.

Thank you for selecting one of our mud cloth pillows as part of the inspirations! It was fun to open the email and see it included!

Sweet – I have light #8 in my kitchen (in oiled bronze). I love it!

This is so true! Our bedroom is definitely the last room to get finished in our house. I just finished the window trim in there last night and it changed the whole feel of the room. Later this week we are replacing our door and moving around our furniture. Simple changes but I’m hoping it makes a huge difference. Love all of your options! We have a throw that is almost identical to number 8!

Thanks for the tips. I finally changed out my dated bedroom lampshades and that made a world of difference in the room, and didn’t break the budget.

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

That is a great idea, lampshades do make such a difference! Thanks for sharing that tip.

I think the biggest obstacle in my bedroom is not enough storage for clothes, blankets, bedding, extra pillows, etc. I don’t have a big master bedroom, I think I need to figure out more storage! Do you have any tips?

    • Linda Lewis

Same with my bedroom. Small closet and very little room for storage. I would love your tips and ideas on this problem.

I think getting a master bedroom set up and decorated is important! You need at least that space to be done so you have a retreat!

I loved this! It’s so true! We waited in our old house for the day we’d add on and make more room. Well, we never did and lived with a not so happy space for years. Fast forward to moving into a house with a master suite….the first thing we ordered was a big bed frame and mattress. We are so glad we did as it would of been put on the back burner again…no we are enjoying it!!! :)

Great tips! I think it is so important to make your bedroom a personal oasis! I always do so by keeping calming things on my bedside table and keeping my bedding fresh. I switch it out for every season!

  13. Juliana

    I absolute love the blankets!

This is so generous of you to share the quick tips free download. It will be a great resource for reminders, ideas, and gathering thoughts. And such beautiful photos. Thanks!

I’ve always heard that you should do the bedroom first. That way, when you are working on the rest of the house, you have a nice retreat to go to at the end of busy days.

Wonderful ideas! Have I told you about the Doodles on Instagram? They’re in Atlanta and it is awesome how they get all those Doodles to sit for a shooting. It’s https://instagram.com/thatdoodsquad?igshid=130jld2jooxhk. Since you have a Doodlecutie I thought you might enjoy seeing these. Have a great day and Spring forward! 🕰
