When we moved here from our old house, we left our sectional behind for the new owners. Even though I knew I was going to miss it, it was a win-win to leave it. We loved the sofa, but we were downsizing and knew it just wasn’t going to work to move it to our new home. When the time was right we hoped to find something smaller, but in a similar fabric and color.

You probably saw some of the sofa we found in my flooring reveal, but today I want to show you more and tell you about it!

We ended up finding the perfect sectional with a chaise through Interior Define last summer. It was just as I had pictured. The fabric is a performance fabric and it’s a super soft and cozy velvet. The color is GORGEOUS! It’s a deep charcoal with a hint of blue that at certain angles has a lovely silvery sheen that brings light to the dark velvety fabric.

I promise I didn’t pose the dogs in all these pics. HA! They were determined to be featured in every photo. Every time I get out my camera, there they are. They always want to be where I am, especially Jack…he’s very much a people dog. Those of you who have pups probably know what I mean. They just like to be with their humans.

Anyway, back to the sectional :) I love the piping details and the slender, slightly sloped arms. This sectional is called the Caitlin and is a part of the Everygirl Collection. It’s available as a regular sofa as well. It has a comfortable but refined look about it, which is a combination I really like.

Our Sectional - Interior Define

The bench cushion is reversible, filled with high-resilience foam wrapped in down. The back cushions have a soft down fill, so you really do want to sprawl out and relax (no matter what side you sit on.) Jack thinks this end is an ottoman, which he of course tries to claim as his own (he has this thing with ottomans). I personally find it perfect for sprawling out and binge watching Fixer Upper.

The back pillows can be easily fluffed and adjusted for comfort, or removed completely if we want more room to take a nap!

Lol…Jack.

Another great thing about Interior Define is that their furniture is hand-crafted and made-to-order. That means you have options! If you needed a special size or customization, just let them know! Need a different fill option, custom legs or a different fabric? They offer tons of choices and are very accommodating.

But their high quality made-to-order pieces doesn’t mean they are more expensive. Because you order online, the prices can be more affordable than what you might find in a showroom.

If you are wondering about Interior Define’s return policy, it’s super generous. They want you to love your furniture. You have 14 days to return it for a full refund and free shipping or 365 days to return with just a modest restocking fee.

I recommend getting their complimentary fabric swatches to help with your decision process!

Our Sectional - Interior Define

We really love having this cozy space downstairs to gather and relax. And obviously, our pups do, too. :)

Our sectional is the 110″ Caitlin Chaise Sectional (the last one shown in the graphic above). We chose the fabric Mod Velvet (Color: Narwhal) with Oiled Walnut Legs.

Thank you to Interior Define for providing this sectional!

Ps. You can find our pups on Instagram here or on Jack’s Instagram here. :)

Jack is simply adorable. Gotta love our pups! I love that sofa. We have a similar one at our cabin (home away from home). The chaise part of it is MY spot. I also love your rug. This house has turned out so lovely.

  2. Cheryl

HAHAHAHA!! that is so funny!!!!! those pups made my day. You’re home is so awesome.

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Thanks Cheryl. I’m always happy that the antics of these pups brings so much joy!

  3. Kay

That dog! He made me smile! I’m all about the loose back cushions on a couch, as I love napping/spooning with my own dog, Chloe the Dachshund.

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

:) It does make it so much easier to make yourself and the pooches comfy. Have a great evening, Kay!

  4. Jann Newton

Melissa, I love your new sofa, and the pups are adorable!

  5. Karen

That couch looks so comfy! A true “curl up” spot. And I love the art gallery behind the couch. :)

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Thanks, Karen! It was fun to finally get some of our art up off the floor and onto the walls! :)

  6. Dawn

Love Jack in his praying position!!!! What a dog!

  7. Diane @ An Extraordinary Day

Beautiful Melissa! What a cozy room! It’s so nice to see sofas with thin arms. I never got into the extra wide arms that have been popular for way too long. Your gallery wall behind the sofa is amazing!!!! Enjoy your cuddle times there with Jack & Lily. xo

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Thanks, Diane! I think the thinner arms are nice for smaller spaces, too. The wide arms take up so much space! Hope you had a great Easter.

  8. Rachael

    The sofa looks lovely!

A random question but what are the type of plants you have on the side? I’m looking for something similar… but I never know where to start with indoor plants, I tend to kill them all!

  9. Gail

    Love those dogs !!!
A question about sectionals, since I’ve never lived in a house with one ! Do the pieces slide apart ??

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

The pieces can be separated for easy transport, but they have a locking mechanism so they don’t come apart on their own :).

I’ve actually had my eye on a sofa from Interior Define for a while so I’m so thankful your giving your thoughts as well as some pictures of one so I can get a better idea. I really love it and it looks beautiful in your home. Thanks again for sharing.

  11. Jo Jo

Your sectional is beautiful and looks like it is as comfortable as you state, proved by your adorable pup’s adorable lounging! ?❤️? Love the color too! I am partial to sectionals as well. We bought one with a chaise for our living room in our new home. It’s the perfect piece for lounging and seats 5 comfortably. And I too binge watch Fixer Upper ( and the Food Network) on mine! ?

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

It’s nice to have a sofa where the whole family, furry friends included, can lounge! :-) Thanks, Jo Jo.

  12. Mary Crozier

Thanks for the information as I am in the market for a new sofa. However, we, too have dogs that seem to think the sofa is THEIRS. Maybe your dogs don’t shed? I hate to spend $$$ on a new sofa and have it become the dogs’ new home. Please let me know how your sofa wears with pets.

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Our dogs don’t shed! The fabric will make a difference on how it holds up, so be sure to check into the performance type fabrics for any sofa you are interested in. We have found them to wear well with pets.

  13. Sue

I have been stalking Rose from Interior Define for a long time. Jasper, the poodle, loves the couch also, don’t think I can keep him off a new couch.

  14. Danna Walters

I hooted when I saw Jack draped across the ottoman! Ha ha! The post was worth it just for that! Your dogs are adorable! The couch is pretty sweet too.

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

I’m glad he gave you a chuckle, he sure keeps us laughing! He’s quite a dog.

  15. Christine

I LOVE that sectional. I would never get up! It would fit perfectly in my living room. :-D

  16. Becky

I was checking on the return policy as I am chicken about ordering upholstered furniture online. The 365 day return costs $400 for shipping it back plus the 10% restocking fee.

Your piece is lovely and the room looks great. Love your dogs!

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

As I read their policy, it’s a 100% free return (no restocking fee or shipping) if you request within 14 days, so you have two weeks to look it over, test it out and contact them if you decide it was what you expected. The 365 day policy is only if you tried to return it months later, but they also have a ten year warranty that the frame and suspension will be free of defect.

  17. Sharon Warren

Makes me want a new sectional…but only if it comes with the puppies!
    They could sell anything.

  18. Diana R

Love your pups and how they pose for you. Love your house.

  19. Kathleen

Love the sofa and the dogs! Looks so comfy and with the down, it must be! I also love how the legs look high enough that a roomba would be able to maneuver under it! I like to buy the microfiber fabric for my sofas. Reason being is with pets and kids and the spillage that occurs, you can unzip the cushion and pillow covers and run them through the washer. I’ve also done this with regular upholstery fabric. Have you ever tried this? It’s amazing how dirty the water is.

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

You’ll laugh about this but my roomba is MISSING! I have no idea where it is, it must have been cleaning somewhere, got lost, and died! I have unzipped cushion covers and washed them and they looked SO MUCH BETTER afterward! Amazing how yucky they get. Such a good tip! Thanks Kathleen!

  20. Jennifer

I can’t even focus on the couch because your dogs are just TOO funny! They really look like they’re posing :) Love them!

  21. Laura @ The Tiny House Farm

Love the sofa (and the dogs!) Question: Does the velvet hold up well? We will be investing in some new furniture when we move in a few years and I love the look of the velvet. We have a farm life so we need sturdy furniture. :)

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

This is actually a performance fabric (which looks like velvet to me) so it holds up really well! Regular velvet wouldn’t necessarily hold up as well. :-)

You didn’t answer my question above about getting free flooring and furniture. Apparently you do, and you also write books, which makes money. And yet you have all these links for your readers to make you even more money, and all the annoying ads, which are now moving, which makes them even more annoying! I have all your books but I’m tired of your fakeness. Why didn’t you publish my question? It was innocent enough. You are a phony. I’m done being a fan.

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

      Hi Joly,

I emailed you back right away, but you provided an unreachable email address so my responses didn’t get to you and were not published on the blog.

To answer your question here though, no, I do not “get things for free.” I’d LOVE that (who wouldn’t?) but that isn’t how it works. In order to help provide for my family and make sense of how much time it takes to keep up this blog, I either have to ask for payment or product for the work I do (just as anyone would expect for a job). My only alternative would be to get a different job or charge readers to subscribe. I’ve chosen to charge brands, which makes it 100% free for you to read! If you choose to buy a book or support the blog in any way, I’m grateful. But there is no obligation to do so.

Just like anyone who has to earn a living, I do try to earn money for my family when I work. I’m just like anyone else, trying to do the best I can with my time and resources.

So, no, products you might see on my blog aren’t free at all.I’ve spent ten years of my life and work long hours building a business. As a result of hard work, I have opportunities to work with clients. There is a lot of effort and costs involved on my part to keep this business going (computer and office expenses, employee expenses, taxes, photography equipment, website expenses and maintenance, for starters), as well as a cost to a brand to provide me the product or sponsored fees. I work with brands I love and when I do my job, we both get something out of the partnership.

You’ll find a disclosure on the posts that were sponsored so I can be as transparent as possible. You will see I provide plenty of free exposure to brands I haven’t partnered with or received any compensation from, simply by showing my home on a regular basis. You’ll see lots of stuff in my house I bought from flea markets or just ordered on my own, outside of any partnership.

But it is true, some of my posts are sponsored, some aren’t. Sometimes there will be several in a row that are sponsored (it’s just how it works out, I can’t always control the timing), and sometimes I’ll provide content for weeks “for free.” However, that’s why you’ll see ads, somehow I still have to pay the bills! I can’t just play on the computer all day.

Since it bothers you that I earn a living for my family this way, you will probably be happier reading a blog that is purely a hobby blog. I totally understand that not everyone will enjoy what I do and that’s OK :).

Where did you get the side table next to the blue chair? I didn’t see that on your Shop Your House page.

The space is beautiful! I have enjoyed reading your blog so much over the last year, and am seeking to use your tips as we redo a 1974 build to suit our family and style.

  24. Wendy

I would like to know where you found your blue occasional chair in the corner. It is a nice style.

  25. Kandy

    Hello Melissa,
I love your blog and enjoy seeing your home. I purchased an I/D sofa a year ago in that same Narwahl fabric with the chrome legs. It was gorgeous! I loved it until I sat on it…and immediately decided it would need to go back. I purchased the Sloan in the regular cushion and it was incredibly firm, almost hard. How cushy is the down-wrapped cushion? I like to be able to sink in and spend way too many hours on my current cushy, but very old, sofa. I would reorder from I/D if I thought the sofa would be more comfortable. Honest opionion?

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

It is a gorgeous fabric! The down wrapped is nice. The one thing I hesitate on as far as total comfort though is that it is a bit shallow and the legs got a little wobbly. I actually just got a new sofa that is super comfy, it isn’t the same style though at all! I’m keeping the Sloan, too. But the new one is so cozy and deep I love it! >https://theinspiredroom.net/2018/08/21/my-white-slipcovered-couch/

Hi! I”m considering ordering the Caitlyn in a corner sectional. I would love to know how yours has held up, and if you consider it comfy and/or sturdy enough to hold up to family living. Also, you mentioned in the comment above, it’s not deep enough – which depth do you have? It’s such a big investment- I need all the opinions I can get!
