You know what design element I really love in a room? SCONCES! That’s what. I think sconces make rooms feel extra cozy and charming. Sconces really spread light around the room, making the whole space feel warmer and more inviting.

I couldn’t be happier with the lights in our kitchen, I LOVE the mood they bring to the room. I rarely turn on the ceiling lights at night because I prefer a more romantic ambience. I’m definitely hoping to add more sconces to our home!

Enjoy these inspiration images! You’ll find sources for some of my favorite sconces at the end of the post.

Love all of these ideas for wall sconces. My sweet hubs is building us a new farmhouse style shiplap headboard, and we are mounting sconces on either side for reading. I’m looking so forward to getting it finished, and having this clean, fresh look in our master bedroom. No more knocking over my lamp when searching for my glasses on the nightstand!
Thanks for posting all these lovely rooms for even more inspiration!

Hi Sharon, what a great idea and so much safer, ha! Three cheers for your hubs!

AND sconces save so much room! Here in the Pacific NW you can never have too much light – ha! We recently had 2 layers of old wallpaper removed from the living room of our 1947 house (we’ve lived here 4 years) and discovered the wallpaper covered previous sconce locations (with live wiring, no less). We ran down to the Rebuilding Center here in Portland, OR and managed to find matching chrome sconces that will add such a nice touch to the room – hopefully going in next week! Yay! Thanks for posting all these lovely pictures!

I love sconces too. So much so that I bought a sailboat with beautiful sconces!

We are sconce soul sisters at heart!! Just put them in my bedroom and took off the beside lamps…changed everything..FOR THE GOOD…I just luv them!! (I even put marbleized lining inside the shades!) franki

We have beautiful antique sconces in our living room, but we really went crazy with them when we renovated some 17th century apartments for vacation rentals. Rather than have tippy lamps on nightstands, we put in sconces. Plus there already had been sconces around the apartment. They look great, and they don’t have those horrible electric cords hanging all over. Very practical.

Lovely, but do you ever wonder if it will one day be hard to find the attract light bulbs that make these fixtures work?

    • Melissa @ The Inspired Room

Hmmm, I suppose if lightbulbs changed we’d have to get new light fixtures! But most fixtures use standard sized bulbs and they can work with the Edison style, too, so I’m hoping it wouldn’t be an issue.
