Glidden Paint {Review & Giveaway} Now closed

The Inspired Room Coffee Station Paint color: Glidden Polished Grey

For those of you have have followed along with my blog over the years, you know we did a lot of wall painting in our old home. Even though it was a brand new house when we bought it, the paint the builder used was not only not our favorite color :) but it looked really dry and was just not good quality. I couldn’t wait to paint over it!

We are happy to say we managed to paint every single room during our six and a half years there, sometimes more than once trying to get the right color. We started to paint the trim, too, but didn’t get through as many rooms as we had hoped before we moved.

Even though it took us forever to make it around the entire house with our paint brush, it was well worth the effort. While I don’t really love the mess and sometimes tedious process of painting, I do love how it transforms a space. Not all paint is the same though. After painting dozens of rooms in our multiple house-owning experience, I am careful about what brands and quality we will use. If I am going to go to the trouble and expense of painting, I do not want the experience to be frustrating and I expect the result to be a beautiful finish.

We used Glidden Paint in many rooms that were highly trafficked or well-loved spaces, such as our family room, bedroom, bathrooms, laundry room and TV room. After several years of wear and tear in all of those spaces, we didn’t have to repaint the Glidden painted rooms even once and we were still very happy with the quality. The paint went on beautifully, needed minimal coats (1-2, depending on coverage needed) and lasted for years. It was easy to clean, too. the inspired room family room

I love to be able to circle back on projects we did or things we bought over the years to let you all hear how things held up, and I’m happy to report that Glidden paint did not disappoint. I foresee painting more walls in our future home and have no hesitation about the quality or finish we will get with Glidden. The wall paint I use is called Glidden Duo, a paint and primer in one. I usually go with an eggshell finish, but in a less frequented space I love a flat finish.  If you want to check out reviews or add your own experience, you can find Glidden paint and ratings & reviews here. Or see their paint colors here. Front Door Refresh

Charcoal Painted Front Door - The Inspired Room

A few weeks ago we noticed our door needed a fresh coat of paint. Between the dogs and all the traffic in and out, the paint was getting a little beat up. For the past year or so, we had been entertaining the idea of softening the front door color. Now that our paint colors are starting to flow better and we have a more clear direction for the overall color scheme of our home, the black just seemed a little harsh.

Coastal Entry

I love black doors, but since I had been questioning whether or not it felt too harsh in my house for so long, I decided it wouldn’t hurt to try a softer tone! Since we had plenty of our kitchen cabinet paint (Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal, see all of my paint colors here) and we knew it worked great in our overall color scheme, we thought we might as well start there! It was worth a try.

Dark Gray Painted Front Door - The Inspired Room

Turns out, we love it! See the difference? I only wish I hadn’t waited so long to try it!

Update: See details about my new indoor/outdoor entry rug here!

By the way, the trim color is Dove White by Benjamin Moore and the walls are Studio Taupe by Behr All-In-One.

On The Hunt for Green

Thrifted Green Garden Stool - Decorating with Texture

I‘ve spent the last couple of years working on the color scheme that seems to work best for our house. We have almost finished ridding our home of the builder’s favorite color a.k.a. swine walls (let’s reflect back to when my entire house was covered in swine, shall we?). We’ve spent the past couple of years painting our walls with neutral shades of warm grays, blues and whites. I just love that mix and feel like it all goes together without anything needing to match. Stay tuned for the second to last swine room currently getting a good-bye swine makeover!

One color I’ve been wanting to add more of is a shade of deeper green. Not for the walls, but as an additional accent in accessories or fabrics. I think a darker green adds a richer depth to the mix of softer blues, teals, and grays.

Lately I’ve been on the hunt for green (not to be confused with necessarily looking for hunter green from the 1980’s for anyone old enough to remember the English Country trend of that era. Heheh! Maybe I’ll inadvertantly bring that back.)

So I was quite pleased when on my rounds of the local second hand and flea markets I stumbled upon this cute little green jewel toned gem of a garden stool! I was thrilled because not only is it green and it was a great flea market find, but I’m quite fond of having little stools all over my house. Besides adding a fun splash of color or texture to a room, stools are so handy and practical as seating or side tables too.

What’s your favorite second hand find?
