Sometimes changes in life are bitter sweet. I recently went online to create a photo of my kids with a personalized frame. I cried when it arrived in the mail, it means so much to me! What makes this gift particularly sentimental is what it represents. It is not just a photo of my three kids together. It is a photo of my three kids on the front porch of our family’s beach house, the last time they were there. The frame says it all:
“Memories at the Beach: May you always have a shell in your pocket and sand in your shoes.”
Sigh. That beach house has been our vacation home and the place where we’ve built family memories for about 16 years. Soon it will be sold and no longer ours. We will make new memories and go new places, I’m sure, but as you can imagine, leaving this house is a bitter sweet time for us. It is hard to say good-bye to a home that means so much to your family, but the time has come to move forward!
It is good and necessary to close chapters of our lives at times, but always emotional to say goodbye to something you love. Creating this little memento is my way of reminding myself, my family, and my kids that we are leaving the house behind, but not the memories or the love! Those things remain. Ok. Now I’m getting all weepy.
