Ilove hardwood, stone and tile floors. But, in the winter, they aren’t exactly warm and cozy for your feet. I always love stripes, so when I saw all these rugs with various combinations of stripes, I fell in love! The bottom rug is from the Martha Stewart line. If it is good enough for Martha, well, you know it is a good thing!

I love how you can customize the look. You can keep it neutral or liven things up with fun colors and patterns. Creating one of these area rugs would be a relatively easy decorating project to warm up a room for your feet this fall! These rugs are eco-friendly too. All good things.

We have used FLOR carpet tiles in several of our rooms. SO practical. esp with kids and a dog. A tile gets dirty, just pull it up and wash it in the laundry room sink! Rumor has it that you can run the tiles through the dishwasher, but I am afraid to try! Great post.

I love this idea! And how easy to replace a tile if kids spill or dogs have accidents! Love your blog!

Melissa, I also love the second photo of the staircase. I have the ubiquitous oak staircase/rails in my home, and I’ve been wanting to paint it ebony and white for five years! I was also talking to a carpenter this week about adding wainscoting (or some other interesting trim) to treat the staircase wall. So this picture serves as great inspiration!

My wall color is “Chesapeake Sunset”, a warm yellow, and I think that (if I ever gather the courage to paint the staircase), a natural sisal (or sisal-look) runner would be pretty with the ebony, white, and yellow. Wonder if those floor tiles come in the proper length/width for a stair tread?!

What a great idea. I’ve been looking for a hall runner for my downstairs hall and can’t seem to find a long runner, 16ft, with a full-length stripe unless I get something custom made, and even then the 16ft length is an issue as carpet rolls are generally not that wide. Maybe I can make my own using these tiles. Thanks for the tip!!

Hope you are well. We just got back from Paris and I am still jet-lagged I think. Keeping waking up at 4am! I am taking today off for the Thanksgiving long weekend.

I have seen those FLOR tiles before…what pretty colors…and fun patterns! LOVE it! I just recently ripped all the carpet out of our living room and replaced it with faux wood flooring, so I have been thinking about something to keep our tootsies warm during the winter. Great ideas!

I also love FLOR tiles, especially when used in very traditional settings like your first two pictures. Plus, they’re recyclable! It’s all good.

I had heard about them, but never really saw them in action- they would be perfect to use in a home that has bad floors- and you couldn’t afford to put in all new floors- great idea!

While I loved the idea of the FLOR tiles in concept they didn’t work out so well for our home. With two cats – one of which is long haired, ie the worst shedder ever! – they never really looked clean. We ended up getting a Dyson vacuum and even then we couldn’t get all the hair up (the vacuum would, however, try to pull the tiles up from the floor so it’s not like it was because of the lack of suction). The tiles were also really scratchy to walk on.

The best part about using area rugs is that if you decide you want to change up the decor of the room, they are easy to change. I love those patterns!
