Fall Nesting Tips: #3

Give yourself a happy & welcoming homecoming! So many of us enter our homes through a dull, dingy and dreary garage door. How sad for us! Be boring no more! A red door makes everything cheerier. The stenciled steps, striped rug and funky chair will smile at you every time you come home. Have fun this fall nesting around your entrances and give them an extra dose of personality!

I wish my garage door looked this good! It never occurred to me to paint it anything other than white. What an interesting idea!

What a brilliant idea! When we come home we enter through our laundry room which is one of my favorite areas in the house but the area leading into the laundry room is terrible and totally unwelcoming. Thanks for the inspiration!

Okay, I think this a great idea, most everyone that visits our home comes to the back door, through the garage! I usually decorate the front doorway, but it’s really my backdoor that has all the traffic. Thanks for this tip, my wheels are spinning as I write!

It is a great idea isn’t it. That’s so true, most people including myself and my husband enter through the garage door! Never really thought about it either.

    Melissa,
I love that idea of writing on the steps. That is so sweet.
I also wanted to say thank you for your post yesterday. Your honesty is so refreshing and encouraging. I’m sorry you have had to go through so much the past few years, and yet, I know it is what really builds our belief in GOD’S character and power. I’m praying today that you can “count it all joy” as you go through these things for HIM!
    Many blessings,
    Shilo

Love the red door! Our old farm house is painted curry color, green trim, eggplant shutters and red doors!!!!!In the Pacific Northwest it can get kind of dreary in the winter, so this is a cheerer upper, all red doored people Unite! Mary Anne

I have wanted a red door for so long. We recently painted our house, and red would not match at all. What a great idea though, the garage! It doesn’t have to match, because nobody would see it but us!

What a simple improvement that makes such a difference. I am going to remember this one for when I finally become a big girl and get my own home. Thanks!

This is beautiful — and of course a red door is a sign of hospitality. This is a good reminder that we need our home to be welcoming not only to guests but to *us* too.

Love that! Those steps are too cute. This makes having to enter in through the back door much more appealing!

I also think that more homeowners should enter their homes more from the nice front door. I make it a point to do that as much as possible! Why is it that something so simple makes ya feel so special? …Hmm. Maybe I don’t get out much? ;-)

I love this picture and I agree wholeheartedly! If I had an attached garage that wasn’t filled to the brim with JUNK, I would most definitely make the entrance bright and fun like this.

Hi Melissa! I have been so busy selling my old home and trying to renovate my new one before moving in that I have not had alot of time to comment on your blog. I do visit every new post and am always inspired! THIS post is PERFECT for me! We just installed a new garage door and I have to paint it. I was going to paint it white, like the inside…but NOW you have inspired me and I am painting it red to match the FRONT door! Thank you!!!

I love the red door idea–because I love red! I will tuck that in my head and I want to try it. My daughter just painted hers black and added a stencil. It is much more inviting now. Thanks for this idea and the picture today.

Oh I’m a sucker for red doors! Paint wouldn’t work on the material in our door. Probably a good thing by my husband.

    Too pretty and too right.
My first thought was how pretty and shame my entrance is through the garage door and laundry, might have to rethink that space.
