“It was one of those perfect English autumnal days
which occur more frequently in memory than in life…”
Author P.D. James
Oh, may it not be so!
Autumn gives us every opportunity to live an authentic life. Yet how easy it is to miss the little things in the never ending pursuit of a “perfect” life! An authentic life is made up of recognizing beautiful moments in an imperfect world. We must discipline ourselves to linger even for a moment on those things so they will become emblazoned in our memory like a snapshot in a tattered scrapbook. What do you treasure in Autumn?

Apple cider! Mmmmmm…..
A delicious recipe to enjoying the best of the season
Warm pumpkin bread and pumpkin spice lattes! Those pictures are so inviting. I could sit in those chairs for hours just stairing into a fire.
Yes! Both of those automatically say Fall to me! And Caramel Apple Spice’s from Starbucks, too. Once I’ve had my first one of the season (which I did last week), it’s officially Fall!
Those plaids have me jazzed!!! franki
I have thoroughly enjoyed this Autumn Bliss event and don’t look forward to it ending, but then I know that November and all the months beyond hold their own joys…
Hey! I think you crawled into my laptop and pulled those out of my “drool” file LOL! I have these same pics saved because i love how they make me feel – which is funny, because NOTHING, absolutely nothing, is that dark in my house. hmmm….
some of my favorite fall things – sleeping with the windows open, spiced candles, fall coffees at starbucks, fall family dinners with lots of comfort food.
Hayrides, Pumpkin Curry Soup, Bonfires, Family movie nights all piled up on the couch. Than you for helping us remember to pause and notice what we cherish
I loved todays post. The list of Autumn things was beautiful. Loved the pictures. I made an apple pie last night and it made the house smell so yummy. I love Fall

What a wonderful list! This Fall I am enjoying bike rides with the kids on cold mornings, yesterday on the way to school the path was covered with fog. Max was so excited to be “IN” fog! Janell
I have that last picture saved on my computer – it has been one of my favorites for a while! Autumn is my FAVE season, for all the reasons you mentioned. Love it!
Ok, so I’m in love with that herringbone comforter in one of your images and I so cannot find it on the Ralph Lauren site you linked to. Can you tell me where you found that? Plus, those floral sheets. Love fluffy duvets and lots of bed pillows in the fall and snuggling under them.
Wow, your have done lots of homework for ’31 days’, I look forward to them daily!
Always great ideas and great images, Thank-you for all the effort!

Beautiful images! I love your 20 things to enjoy savor about Autumn. Excelent!
Autumn, being my favorite season, has me enjoying it to the fullest. You are so right, if we don’t it will be gone in a flash!
Flannel sheets on all the beds, cozy candles, warm throws….mums, pumpkins, the beautiful sunlight at this time of year….I guess I am going to have to do my own 20 little things list….
One of my favorites is the crunchy sound of leaves underfoot. I love the burst of color on fall trees, even when just riding around town. I love the way my children’s noses and cheeks turn pink as they get flushed in the cool air. Fairs, festival and foliage all my make heart beat a bit faster!
The rich, earthy odors of Mother Nature making her compost, falling leaves, dying grasses…and the light…softer, it gives a glow to everything–Autumn is like sunset for the year.
Love the P.D. James quote–she’s my favorite mystery writer!

I love homemade pumpkin bread, fresh picked apples, the state fair, and even the sound of acorns falling around the house all day. I don’t even mind the sound as it continues through the night. :)
Leisurely meandering down some back roads on a Sunday afternoon, enjoying the canopy of trees whose leaves are changing. Stopping for one last ice cream while the dairy stand is still open. Partaking of the fall bounty at local farmstands: pumpkin or apple butter, breads, and fresh baked pies. Mums in all their glorious colors. Scarecrows and cornstalks. Candy corn… and getting ready for the winter ahead, making things cozy and welcoming!
Love all those beds with the linens…just makes you want to hop on it ;) Also…great list of things to appreciate for fall…Thanks Melissa!
Have a wonderful week, fondly, Roberta
I am just sad that there are only 10 more days left in this series. I love the thoughts and the pics.
These pictures are SO beautiful!!! They are so perfectly FALL! :)
Baking!! I adore baking in the fall! With pumpkins especially!
Sitting on the couch, bundled up under a cozy blanket…with the windows open!
Sweaters, closed shoes with socks again – especially boots, the color of the leaves, seeing the leaves on the ground, the smell of cinnamon, SOOOO many things! I just love fall! :)
Loved these beautiful inviting rooms, and DON’T want the 31 days to end. So far, it has been fabulous – I look forward to it every single day.
Melissa,
Now I’m *really* in the mood for Autumn! Thanks for that. I’ve posted my list of 20 on my site. (We’ll keep the love flowing…) http://www.cookingatcafed.com/2010/10/autumn-treasures.html
I love the crisp evenings—any excuse to put a fire in the fireplace. There is an energy that comes with this season and I enjoy taking full advantage of it. I loved your list.

Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Hiking, Smores with the Moore’s, Hayrides, Sitting around a campfire under a warm blanket, Laying in a field staring at the night sky, Sleeping under an electric blanket, Wearing my cozy knitted slippers around the house, The aroma of a Thanksgiving meal cooking, My favorite hot chocolate, Camping trips, Seeing little kids all dressed up for Halloween, Trying new recipes that have pumpkin in them, The brilliant colors of leaves changing, Hot coffee and a good book on a cold day, Cramming as many family members that will fit onto a bed just to talk, A warm sweater, Knitting, Taking a hot shower or bath after being outside in the cold, Spending time in the kitchen with family
I love the photos…and so very Ralph Lauren….the list of things to savor is wonderful as well. I think one of my favorite things is warm pajamas. I get so hot in the summertime at night but when fall really sets in I can get out my yummy, soft, snuggly pj’s and snuggle in with my sweet hubby…love it!
Ahh, things that I love about fall. Changing leaves (leaves change here in Idaho, I swear!), frost in the mornings, and cool weather. I try to savor fall for as long as possible, because our winters here are impossibly long (our spring doesn’t hit until late June).
It’s not fall until we rake leaves into one huge pile and take turns jumping into it. :)
Of course, caramel apples never hurt anyone, either.
A homemade pumpkin spice latte!
I love all these lists. When I was teaching, I never really appreciated fall. I was so busy starting school, I didn’t have time to look around and enjoy everything around me. Now I LOVE fall. One thing I love is the smell of burning leaves, as well as the smell of a bonfire. I love watching the leaves fall. I love wearing sweats instead of sweating in the 100* heat. Being cozy and warm in a blanket-filled bed with the windows open (this drives dh crazy…)
I love your 31 days, btw, and look forward to it every day. Thanks for being one of my favorite things about fall!!!
pork cops with apples, sauerkraut and curry, and a side of creamy, buttery smashed potatoes!
And ALL of your lovely visuals :)
Loving this series! Great looking rooms! I Love cozy fall things.
I love this series – but I may love those herringbone plates even more! They’re darling. One of my favorite things about autumn is all the new flavors – pumpkin spice, nutmeg, and, if willpower is low, a pecan caramel milkshake…
