Decorative Idea for Christmas <br> {using bits and pieces}

Here is a super easy idea for creating something new with some random Christmas decorations! Be fearless about mixing things that look pretty together, you don’t have to limit yourself to only “Christmas” items. And your traditional Christmas balls do not have to be limited to being hung on the tree!

Here I have everything from shells and starfish, to green and silver holiday balls and even an upside down mercury glass candle holder!

Group your items together in a bowl or other container.

I like the contrast of the warm and dark wood bowl with the bright white shells and shiny mercury glass balls.

This makes a great centerpiece that is low enough it won’t interfere with your conversations! It would also make a lovely holiday accent on a coffee or entry table!

    I love how ornaments in a container can be decorative, Melissa! There are so many containers to choose from, too, and ornaments can be purchased inexpensively at the dollar store. Last year I got several sleeves of ornaments for $1.00! This looks so pretty with the natural elements you’ve added.

    Wow looks great! I love how you’ve put together random things to make something completely new. I’m gonna have a rummage in my old decorations and see if I can put together something similar!

    So pretty! I did something similar with silver and gold balls…I mixed in white quill feathers. Really pretty! This would be great for a shore house.

    Pretty. I didn’t buy anything new this year, just used what I had around the house. Love this site for inspiration.

    I’ve done something very similar ~ and also using sea shells…. I haven’t been able to give up on the sea shell decor yet so why not incorporate it into Christmas? And, since tomorrow is Thanksgiving, I”ve placed a link to last years ‘free placecard tag download’ if you or anyone wants to print them up, pop on over! ~ Violet

    What a great idea! How come yours looks so pretty and decorative but mine ends up looking like a bowl of junk? Hmmm. I’ll have to rearrange my junk a bit. Have a blessed Thanksgiving.

    How beautiful. I thought it would be fun to do a Christmas at the Beach or Surfer’s Christmas this year but everybody thought I had lost all my marbles to even suggest such a thing! Next time I’m going with my instincts. The ornaments with the starfish and shells are so chic and fresh. Great job

    What a beautiful centerpiece! I’ve done something similar with hurricane lamps with a white candle in the center. I fill the area around the candle with white shells and red and silver ornaments. When you light the candle and it reflects in the ornaments, it’s really pretty. thanks for all the inspiration. Love your blog!

    You are a hundred kinds of brilliant! I was decorating for Christmas today (YIPEE!) and I have a new (old-thrift store find) urn I want to fill. I’m now inspired! Thanks, purdy lady!
