Announcing Christmas Home Tours 2011 @ The Inspired Room

Christmas Open House!

I love to think about all of us around the world all snug in our homes (hopefully!) decorating and nesting for the Christmas holiday. While most of us live too far apart to actually visit each others’ Christmas homes in person (sad), we CAN visit each other virtually through these nifty little online events called “Linky Parties” (hooray!).

Jack was banned from helping with the Thanksgiving meal preparations.

I, for one, want you all to virtually come over to my house for Christmas cookies in December! Yes, YOU are invited to join me (and Jack!) the week of December 12th for a little Christmas open house partay I’m throwing for all The Inspired Room readers!

You can just come to visit others’ homes, or you can link up your decorated Christmas home too! You don’t have to have a blog, you can link up to a public Facebook album, Flickr, or any other place where we can view your home!  And then the fun begins…you get to visit everyone else who links up! I’d say it is the next best thing to being there!

Announcing Christmas Home Tours 2011 @ The Inspired Room“Please don’t shut me out of a party ever again, Mom. Makes me sad.”

You don’t have to be ALL DONE with your decorating by then either, so don’t worry if you aren’t. You can still link up what you’ve done so far or link up any time that week. But I’ve decided December 12th is actually a good goal, because that is about two weeks before Christmas! This party will motivate me to get a move on!

Note: I will likely have two linkies available that day, one for your Christmas Home Tours and one for your DIY Christmas Projects, so you can link those up too if you’d like!

I did a little bit of decorating already this weekend, did you? I’ll be starting to show you what I’m working on this week!

I can’t wait to visit everyone during the Christmas Home Tours!!!! See you on December 12th!

Let me know in the comments if you have questions about the party! There will be lots of other parties going on as well around blogland in December, and you can link up to as many as you’d like! I’ll try to post a list of parties I know about in the next week or so.

During The Inspired Room Christmas Home Tours party, I will also be looking for rooms to feature to my new Christmas category in Room Tours and DIY, so thanks for linking up so I can find your Christmas ideas more easily! You can also submit them directly via the Room Tours and DIY pages.

Sounds fun Melissa. I’m working on things but have a way to go, still recovering from Thanksgiving. Hope you are well! Susan

I love it!!! Can’t wait to see what everyone is up to around the country (and world) – what a great way to get inspiration and share ideas. Guess I better get at it – now where was that box of lights?

If I may be quite frank with my fellow galpals in blogger land… How can I compete with all the big beautiful homes out there you all own? On the outside my “home” is a mobile home but on the inside…well…I am trying slowly but surely to create a warm, shabby chic/cottage style living space. I would love to link up to the house tours, but I would feel small and inadequate. But I cannot wait to see all of the big beautiful homes out there!!
Thanks for the post and the tour1

Aw, don’t feel inadequate. I know that can be easier said than done. But everyone’s home is big or magazine cover perfect and that is not a requirement for this open house event! Maybe you have a favorite corner to share, or a Christmas tree, a table or shelf or front door all decked out for Christmas. Just have fun decorating what you have! Then bake some cookies and invite us in :-). Just share what you want. We won’t be nosy guests who insist on seeing your undecorated back bedroom. :-)

Tiki, I feel that same way. I love to look at these houses. LOVE it! But I wonder how in the world I could afford and do these things. People say it does not cost a lot but from what I see in the blog world it has to cost a pretty penny.

Then, I am on the other side of the fence. I am such a blessed girl that I should never envy others (even if I were not blessed C: ) but I think of those people who have nothing. UGH! I know I am such a debby-downer but those are just my true feelings. I am not referring to Melissa because I feel she is genuine and sincere. But some of the other blogs…really…I wish would just get real and be transparent! C:

Believe me, I feel the same way when I see some homes that are always being fixed up and added to. Even “decorating on a budget” is all relative to what kind of “budget” we are talking about! So much of what I have came from thrift stores, consignment stores, garage sales, hand me downs….once in awhile I will buy a new accessory or something but mostly, I just try to rearrange what I have and reuse stuff.

Thank you by the way :-) I do my best to be real and realistic, while still enjoying all the pretty homes and ideas in blogland.

It inspires me to finally start with my decoration. I am really bad at it, but I rather have one big center piece well made rather than a lot of crappy ones

I’d love to come over for cookies…see you on the 12th!

My mom was visiting for Thanksgiving so she helped me get started with my holiday decorating. It’s always more fun with the two of us. I’m just sad I can’t help her with her decorating.

Sounds like fun. I can’t wait. I’ve never done a linky party unless you count the 31 Day series. How do you link up? That might be a dumb question but I’m not that great when it comes to computer stuff. And Jack is so cute. We also had 2 dogs that wanted to taste testers for Thanksgiving.

I will put out instructions to help out on this but basically you will just take pictures at your house, then put the photos in a public place online like a blog or a public facebook page, then then you will use the link to those photos in a “linky” here on my blog. That is how my readers can visit you, virtually! :-)

Melissa, How do you hang your pretty white plates without the gold plate hangers that seem unsturdy to me? If you have already done a post on this refer me to that! I missed it.

Also, I love Jack. We have a 5 month old Golden Retriever born on the 4th of July so we named her Libby Bell (Liberty Bell…haha) She is around 26 pounds or so and was the runt of the bunch. We Love her but do not care for her love of chewing either!! I know it is the puppy in her and I will miss that puppy one day but not the chewing of everything. She stays outside so I have had to limit what I put out on my porch for Christmas! And LOVE your blog.

Hi Candy! I actually do have those gold hangers for my plates. I just wait until I see really sturdy ones before I buy any! I’ve made the mistake of trying the cheaper ones and they are awful! :-)

Love your pup’s name!! So clever!!

    Hi there,
Last year I drooled over the open house tours & found much inspiration. This year I’m going to try and participate. Love your blog Melissa, it’s one of my favorite places to visit, take a coffee break and see what you’re up to. It’s always something creatively wonderful. Merry Christmas and see you Monday night :)
