Designer Katie Rosenfeld (Michael J. Lee Photography)
Welcome to Day Two of my 31 Days of Falling For Fall series!
From time to time during this series, I’ll be sharing various beautiful rooms, displays or tablescapes that I find cozy or inspiring for Fall. Some of the spaces may not even be what you would typically think of as a “cozy style or color.” But because the designer had a great eye for detail, they pulled together elements that brought in just the right amount of texture or warmth. This room by designer Katie Rosenfeld was a great example!
In spite of the fact that it is a white room with pretty blue accents, it feels cozy and comfortable.
How did she achieve that balance?
Here are are five take aways that caught my eye!
1. While the chairs are peacock or teal blue, they are a beautiful soft velvet that feels cozy and comfy. It is that same exact combination I fell in love with for my new ottoman!
2. The light fixture is a warm gold tone. Yes, if you missed the memo, beautiful warm gold and brass is back in vogue in a big way, but a classic metal never really goes out of style. Brass and gold add a touch of sophistication and with a warm glow you don’t get from silver.
3. The fabric lampshades on the chandelier soften the bare lightbulbs for a warmer ambience.
4. The designer added carpet runners to the stairs and an area rug to the dining room. While wood floors alone can be warm and beautiful, the added comfort and layer of texture brought another cozy element to the space.
5. The wood table and stair rail brought a sophisticated touch but still warm natural contrast to all the painted white wood work and green chest.
What caught your eye in this room?

I love how cozy this room is, yet not in the traditional way. For me, the velvet fabric brings in a lot of warmth.
What a pretty space. I really love those velvet chairs, the french doors and the big plant on the stair landing for starters. So much to love here.
I love those doors and the plant too! So pretty!
I love how the artwork ties together the green sideboard, aqua chairs, and blue porcelain. So lovely. Jo @ Let’s Face the Music
I was thinking the exact same thing. Without the artwork, all of the shades of green and blue wouldn’t be quite right. Well said!
Great observations, yes! That art work pulls together the color scheme so nicely!
I love this because my rooms are cool in tone, too, yet warm. Great advice, Melissa, especially about adding cozy textures.
I love the blue and white jars on the table — especially mixed with the teals and aqua fabrics. It’s just gorgeous! I often get “stuck” by keeping the blues or other colors all a similar shade..but this just goes to show that mixing it up is eye catching. So pretty! Thanks for inspiration. :) (and the linky party, too!) I always love your fall series.
Thanks Julie! Yes, those jars are so pretty, aren’t they? I have a few and love them! Mixing up all those blues is so effective!
I love the blue and white china on the table along with the beautiful chairs and the wood, all creates a great feel!
Boy, do we have to get back into gold these days? I barely just got rid of mine, in fact doorknobs are still brass. I have brushed nickel everywhere now!
Ha, no you don’t have to! :-) I think the secret is to go with what you love. And metals shouldn’t really go “in” and “out” … it’s more about what works in your house. I personally always like to mix metals anyway! I am happy about using gold and brass though in small doses because it really gives a bit of warm glam to a space!
Melissa,
I love the lighting, the art and the velvet chairs! All seem very inviting to me and it is a place I would love to sit and have a meal.

I love the artwork and the blue velvet chairs. Beautiful room!
This is my favorite color combination. The cool blues and greens mixed with the warmth of the gold. The white also keeps it fresh and bright. You have a great eye for color and your blog is one of my favorites!
this room is enchanting…..how do I choose….you had me a blue and white! Great job!
The first thing that caught my eye was the crockery. I like to collect such things because every unit is unique and has it`s own history. The next thing that I enjoyed is the lamp. At first sight I didn’t like it but in the décor of this room it looks really stylish.
The chandelier is amazing! I love it. The room looks elegantly beautiful. Simple yet stylish. The colors of each furniture compliments each other that it blends perfectly.
In my cozy abode, we dont have a formal dining room, but I am going to enjoy using these tips throughout my home. Especially in our eat in kitchen. Love it!
